  1. i rushed to get everything done for the HCP permit so i'd have it for our trip back home to Louisiana for Christmas. i was pretty bummed i didn't receive it before we left (12/22). wouldn't you know it, i get back home tonight and it's in the mailbox. the postmark says 12/22, so it arrived the day after we left town. the government...if you don't laugh, you'll cry.
  2. i haven't shopped there either, but, being a huge believer in customer service, i don't plan on it.
  3. i agree and try to keep my personal info "off the grid" so to speak as well.
  4. i figured that much out. what i can't see is how they can use that to their advantage?
  5. I've noticed people will often obscure the serial number of their gun when posting pictures, and I was wondering what is the reason for this?

    My New Toy

Here's a couple of pics of my new sig with a little rail damage. Reading the below lubrication guide made me look for this kind of damage. I figured folks with Sigs out there should be aware. Flork's Lubrication Guide

let me know if you decide to offload it. i'd be interested in it...if the wife will let me spend more money!

    My New Toy

I'm going to post a couple more pics and a howto by a gunsmith on lubricating sigs this evening. The guy mentioned some spots on the slide that need more protection than others, so I took a quick look at those spots on mine. Sure enough there is serious wear on the metal right where he said the stresses are the highest. Figured it might be nice for other Sig owners out there.

are you just trying to get a good deal on a p229?

    My New Toy

Just bought this Sig P229 from a friend at work (top) along with my Stoeger Cougar 8000. I have to say just by feel alone I like the Cougar better. The Sig is built like a tank, but is pretty top heavy and the grips are a little thick for my hands. Comparatively the Cougar fits like a glove and is very well balanced. Can't wait to try it out at the range this weekend.
  11. I can only speak to the first two points, but you seem to be right on with those. I bought my first handgun from Academy Sports in Cool Springs (Franklin, TN) about 3 months ago. All I had to do was show the license, fill out their paperwork and go to the front to pay for the background check. In my HCP class the instructor said there's no registry in the state of TN, so nothing to do there. My wife and I took our DL, the HCP class cert and our money to the DMV. We had to fill out a form that's only available there (can't download it online). Got fingerprinted at Guns and Leather and have been waiting since. Not sure about other laws...
  12. our weim is 4.5 years old, so he's past that puppy stage, but my guess is he's either really wanting some playtime with you or needs to burn off some energy (a tired weim is a good weim). it's also possible it's a dominance thing, which can be problem with weims as a breed. they insist on the alpha position being filled by someone, but you'd probably notice this in other ways, i think. a friend had a female dane that would nip at visitor's heels and butt (tried it on me as well) just about every time he had someone over. she was a very passive/timid dog and wouldn't challenge when i asserted dominance by claiming space or sitting on her favorite couch, but she'd still try to nip me when i walked away. never really figured out what was going on in her head. i hate to say it, but Caeser Milan on The Dog Whisperer has some really good advice and has taught me quite a bit about dog psychology. forgot to put pics of my boy.
  13. my wife ran the half marathon as well this morning. i didn't run, but had to stand in the cold for 3 hours. i guess that's a trade off i'll make for not having to run 13.1 miles.

    kel tec p3at

I got a chance to see a LCP in action this past weekend at the CHMR range, and thought it was nice gun. A fellow shooter was nice enough to offer me a change to fire a few rounds as well. I definitely wasn't very accurate with it, especially since he seemed to do better offhand than i could with two! i did come away with a good impression, though. in response to the ankle holster comment earlier, my wife does end up sitting almost all day and often (maybe 50%) doesn't have pockets on her suit pants or skirt. at first i thought ankle was her only option, but with the size of the ruger/kel-tec she might have an IWB option as well. it will all boil down to what she's willing to put up with, i guess.

    Cougar help please

I'd have to second Bonedaddy's post. I've had a Stoeger Cougar 8000 for about 3 months now and have fired 600 or so rounds through it without a single problem. it's pretty accurate, but i'm not sure how much so, since some of the problem is me. i'm loving it so far! money well spent IMHO.
  16. i bought two 15 rd magazines for my stoeger cougar 8000 from ammoclip.com, and i've been very happy with them. i had two that came with the gun with beretta markings, and these have government issue markings, but they both work wonderfully. here the link for the 11 rd magazines for the 8040. **DOH! i just checked that link again and see they're out of stock.
  17. we were there around 4 yesterday and it was still busy, but there were open lanes available. two people were in the handgun pit (where we shot) when we got there, but by the time i found Charlie and paid my $5, only one was left. i didn't love the idea of taking turns, and i'd rather shoot in lanes so more than one can go at a time.
  18. i shot down there yesterday for the first time. Charlie was as nice as everyone says and you can't beat the deal.

    kel tec p3at

i was thinking of getting a kel tec p3at for my wife to conceal carry, and i was wondering if the gun was reliable and accurate enough? also, would an ankle holster be an option for this gun?
  20. mostly for convenience. keep one in the wallet and a backup somewhere else (vehicle, wife's vehicle, etc). seeing how long it takes for them to come through in the first place, i'm a little wary of having to wait AGAIN if i lose mine.
  21. that's what we told him. figured if we were ok with losing the money, they should be ok with taking the application. it's kind of infuriating how they can just say something and it's gospel. no guidelines to reference or anyone to appeal to.
  22. my wife and i filled out the application for our HCP's today at the DOS office in Franklin (Williamson County Driver Testing Center). The wait was typical DMV, but the woman that helped us was very friendly. We tried to get the duplicate permit but a man name Kenly told her it wasn't allowed. his reason? "you might not get your permit, so how could you get a duplicate?" does anyone know where to find "the official rulebook" on this? i've read sometimes they'll let you and sometimes they won't. seems there's a rule for this somewhere, i just can't find it.
  23. anyone know of a range that's open after work hours in the brentwood area? the only good one's i've found are north of nashville. Uselton's in Franklin looks very nice, but is waaaay too expensive.
  24. my wife and i just took our HCP class at Guns and Leather this past weekend, and i would highly recommend them as well. the class was large (37 people) but ran smoothly. Lanny (i think that's his first name) Crabtree was the instructor and, while the material is very boring, he did a good job presenting it. as everyone says, the test is very easy. i missed one because i'm a moron and overthought one. my wife didn't miss any, and, yes, i'm still hearing about that. my wife has only shot a pistol 2 or 3 times before, but got 100% on the test (with a gnl-provided .22). Lanny and a man named Joe were very good with anyone that wasn't used to shooting. Joe helped my wife with her grip and gave her some good tips that immediately improved her grouping. on a side note, i was at another range today, and they had a HCP course in the range while i was there. i got a good comparison to what we just went through yesterday, and i can say i'm glad we took ours where we did (no knock on them).
