  1. Take a ladder with you and set the camera up high enough so that if the trespasser does see it he can't get to it. We used to do that on the campgrounds at a deer hunting lease I used to be on. I have a Primos trail camera that won't die. They seem to be pretty good. Cabela's store brand has some decent trail cameras with good warranties also. Previous poster mentioned Wildgame Innovations but I have never seen positive reviews on their trail cameras and have stayed away from them. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  2. Sorry for your loss. You will always be able to have fond memories of him through that 1911. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  3. Somebody has a Nikon P-22 in the Gear Classifieds section for about $175 ? I have Simmons 3-9x40 scopes on two of my Marlin 60's and have been pretty happy with them.
  4. You have to be very strategic with Cabela's. I don't think their firearm prices are very good but otherwise I buy a majority of my hunting gear and ammo from their online store. The savings is with not having to pay sales tax for online orders and when you typically spend $99 or more its always free shipping. I have the Cabelas Club credit card and receive 10% off my order plus free shipping at least once a month with special offers they send me for being a club memeber. In addition they have a pretty generous points system so between using points for purchases, no sales tax on my orders and generally having free shipping it beats out the other big box stores and other online retailers. Their store brand products are also reasonably priced and high quality unlike Bass Pro. Some of the Cabela's brand products also have lifetime warranties. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  5. Same. It's my go to and EDC for almost three years now.
  6. Agreed. Ironically I received a 20% off store wide coupon for Gander Mountain in the mail today. I guess that would only bring it in line with other big box retail pricing with 20% off.
  7. http://www.cnbc.com/2017/02/18/bass-pro-shops-acquisition-of-cabelas-now-looking-shaky.html Has until October to close otherwise the deal ends. Hopefully it falls apart. Not a fan of Bass Pro and do a lot of shopping at Cabela's.
  8. Yeah they are really proud of their gear. I didn't even see them at the NWTF show this year. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  9. Looks like the Tenzing is 7lbs and 3oz. Yeah aluminum would have been nice. Still have my standard vest (non kickstand frame) to fall back to if needed.
  10. Good to know. I wore it around at the show and it seemed ok but I also didn't have anything in the pockets. Looks like it weights 6 lbs. 14 oz.
  11. Did you score one of the Alps Grand Slam Turkey Vests at the show? Has a kickstand frame (http://www.alpsoutdoorz.com/products/nwtf/hunting-vests/grand-slam) Hunting buddy and I each bought one. Show price was $99 and no sales tax. Website price has $179. My hunting buddy said this pack looks much better than the Tenzing that he paid a lot more for and is going to sell now. Picked up a replacement turkey pot call in addition (lost a good one in the fields last season). It's made by Tru-Tone. Is a water proof hand turned corian pot. Show price $40, website price $60.
  12. Barnett makes pretty good quality crossbows. I have been using one the past few seasons. It's been pretty solid and no issues. Cocking it does take some upper body strength so I would recommend one of the assistants that you can add on into the stock of the crossbow. Plus that way if you forgot your crossbow cocker when out in the field it's not an issue. Some come with decent optics and some not. Looking to change out my crosshair optic with a red dot. 13. Look for a booth called Tru-Tone Custom Calls (http://www.tru-tonecalls.com/) at the NWTF show. All of their calls are water proof and I have been using their products for a few years now. Highly recommended. They usually work me a deal on multiple products and throw in some extras. I lost a slate call in the field this past season and will be buying another from them this year at the show..
  14. No, using an Indian Creek choke (standard constriction .665). Can use all lead and hybrid heavy loads with shot sizes from #4 through #8 with the Indian Creek choke so that gives me plenty of choices to test out. I had been using the Hevi's but I think I'm going to go with the Long Beards this season if they pattern well with my setup.
  15. Very anxious myself. I bought a new Remington 870 SPS Super Mag Turkey Pump-Action Shotgun about 2 years ago. Will be my 3rd season with it. I need to get out and pattern it with a variety of Winchester Longbeard XR shotshells I purchased at the end of last season to see which works best. Struck out last year on turkey and had a few missed shots. Hopefully better luck this year. I've booked a room with the block rate at Opryland Hotel for the NWTF show to take in as much as I can. Should be good.
  16. ugh. Thought about going. Glad I didn't.
  17. No experience on the bear hunt side but that's probably your best choice in ammo. I carry a Glock 20 Gen4 with me during hunting season in case I run into any un-friendlies and usually carry Underwood 10mm 200gr. How do you like the KKM barrel? Been thinking about one.
  18. Typo. It's a 1998, not 1989. Almost don't want to shoot it but I will. Not a big fan of safe queens, prefer to actually use them. Am sure it will need some oil.
  19. Just picked up a 1989 Browning Semi-Auto Gold Hunter 12 Gauge that had never been fired and still in the original box. That one just kinda showed up but the gun that I have been planning on in the near future is a Glock 19 MOS. I did the Remington Black Friday deal on 9mm and let's just say I have some 9mm to burn through this year.
  20. Especially since they discontinued them two years ago. I had a 2007 Black Cherry FJ for about 5 years until I traded it in on a new Toyota Tundra SuperMax Rock Warrior 4WD (growing family). I had a 3" OME suspension lift, rock rails and 33" BFG A/T's and rear locker on it. That FJ got me everywhere, especially in inclement weather. It was hard to let it go.
  21. I miss my FJ.
  22. Yeah I have a lot of the 180 XTP and never had an issue. Good stuff. I've shot some Atlanta Arms 10mm also and have had pretty good success with it.
  23. Underwood is great ammo for the 10mm. Never chrono'd either but 10mm definitely has a bang. Enjoy my Gen4 G20 a lot.
  24. You definitely moved at a wrong time. lol. There's a Bass Pro, Cabela's and Costco all within a few miles from each other. We pit stopped at that new Cabela's this past summer on our way to South Carolina for vacation. I think I saw 3 Cabela's on I-75 on the way. Wish we had Cabela's in Tennessee instead of 6 Bass Pro's.
  25. All great looking gifts! I will definitely plan on participating next year.
