Five yr old suspended for haircut
gnmwilliams replied to jphillips63's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
But what kind of lesson does it teach a child when a parent, who by letting their child attend the school is agreeing to abide by their rules, like them or not, tells them they don't have to follow those rules because they think they're stupid? My father and I had strong disagreements on music and movie theaters as I was growing up. He felt that movie theaters were dens of evil basically back then and forbade me to go. I sat down with him one day and told him I didn't believe that they were evil and that I didn't believe in my heart that it was wrong to go. I asked him not to forbid me anymore because if I did go, it would be doing wrong on my part. Not doing wrong because I went to the movies, but wrong because I would be disobeying him because he, as my father, had forbade me to go in the first place. Yeah I know i know get to the point. What Im saying is that by allowing their child to go against the rules, right or wrong as they may be, is essentially teaching him that it is okay to ignore authority just because you don't agree with it. Sure, challenging authority is built into us as Americans, as well it should be. Challenge and question all you want but do it the right way. I'd have liked to see the parents use this as an opportunity to teach their child about respecting the rules, even when they're wrong or silly, and seeking ways to resolve the conflict or get the rules changed in stead of just ignoring them. Our founding fathers didn't just jump into war with England in a day. They questioned and challenged the unfair and oppresive laws that were laid upon their shoulders and only when they had exhausted all their options did they make the decision to take up arms against their oppressors. Taxation without representation is a far cry from being sent home for your haircut. My father technically had no legal power to forbid me to go to the movies but I still chose not to go. Why? Because he was my father and I respected him enough to obey his authority, even if I dissagreed with him. -
Five yr old suspended for haircut

Oh trust me. You don't want to see my toes. My wife has been trying to get me to stop wearing flip flops forever now. I literally bend the toenail clippers when I try to clip them. I have to nibble away at them instead of one big chunk or somebody'd lose an eye. So in hind sight, maybe they were offended with my feet, not the sandals. Hmmmmm..... -
Oh no you just didn't!!! LOL. Believe it or not, I wasn't, how do you say, hefty, ahem, until I got married. However, that probably explains the "Crisco" callsign they gave me. (Sigh) Anyhoo, I think they were more afraid of the, "Ooo Buttons!" reaction.

I had the honor to actually meet the Blue Angels when I was 11 years old. Even got to climb up the ladder and peek into a cockpit. Wouldn't let me sit in one though. :( Grounding all these folks is a shame. I guess it's good that the government is spending all of that extra money wisely though huh. :shake:

I know I won't be able to put my exact thoughts into words but the problem with our society today is the fact that they ARE saying screw the rules, be you're own person, forget about respect and authority, do what you want, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. There's a difference between following the rules out of repsect, even when you might not agree with them and following rules blindly even when you are compromising your integrity or morality. I was asked not to wear flip flops to church one day since I was working in the ministry there and some of the elders thought that wearing sandals was disrespectful. I was tempted to snap back with, "Jesus wore sandals!" but I didn't because I respected them and I didn't wear sandals anymore to church. Was there anything morally wrong with wearing sandals in church? Absolutely not. Was it a distraction and possibly a stumblng block to those men? Apparently and possibly. I could have stormed off yelling things about being free to be my own person and not having to follow stupid rules but I didn't because in this case, it wasn't affecting me morally, physically, or ethically. It would have been different if they had called my spiritual condition into question. Respect for authority is totally different than bowing to authority. But be careful. That stuff might getcha thrown into a furnace! :) -

The section of the handbook about hairstyles and dress. Notice how I said there are policies that I don't agree with but if I agree to someones rules, I will follow them. I'm not personally a fan of the Mohawk style but this isn't really about the kids hair anyway is what I'm trying to say. This is the whole reason I plan to homeschool anyway, so I don't have to deal with this crap. Render unto Ceasar that which is Ceaser's and all that. Unfortunately, Ceasar just happens to be an idiot sometimes. -
But but it's a law. The government says its illegal so youre not allowed to. Right?

If you sign a contract to follow a policy you should abide by it or don't sign the contract. Yeah maybe a haircut seems a little silly but a dress code is set to avoid distractions and this hair style was obviously causing one. I signed a contract with my job that doesn't allow me to carry a weapon while I'm working. I think it's silly and even dangerous, but I will abide by it or seek employment elsewhere. -
+1000 If I were a student there I'd be demanding campus carry immediately.

Buying a mattress (Nashville / Knoxville)
gnmwilliams replied to TNcitizen22's topic in General Chat
We bought a Jamison from Brown Squirrel and absolutely love it. They're made in Franklin, TN so I'm sure you could find someone close that sells them. Our King memory foam bed cost us half of what a comparable Tempurpedic and its designed better I think because it won't make you overheat. Check em out. -
I've only got another month or so hopefully until I get my sparrow. I've been able to test it out though at the range I'm buying it from on my Ruger 22/45 lite as well as my savage btvs I had threaded for it. I've never shot anything else to compare it with but I've heard nothing but good stuff about silencer co as a company and the o-ring system was another plus for me as it allows me to keep my threads clean and the can from loosening as I shoot. The real test for me though will be when I can shoot it outside and really get a feel for how quiet it is.

7-year-old faces felony charges for BB gun incident
gnmwilliams replied to billyscott's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Actually it can be. And I speak from experience. Ahem cough cough. Turns out, if you drop your BB gun, the sights get out of whack. Who knew right? Of course back then, the police just called the parents and made sure they handled it. Ended up costing me about an inch of skin off my hide and $150 out of my allowance over the next 6 months for the broken car window. Never any charges, let alone felony charges. But I never goofed around with a firearm again! -
Who's yo daddy?!

Kill it with fire!!! However, I'd prefer a spider I can see and keep tabs on (and possible hit with a 12 guage) over a spider that can sneak into my shoes or bed sheets any day. And for the record, I'd rather face that spider than this for some reason any day. (Shiver)

Found some .22 ammo the other day

It befuddles me how much popular opinions on firearms have changed in the last 70 some odd years. It never crossed most people's minds (republican or democrat) that firearms were evil. It took a culture of people who refused to place the blame on the actual individual and place it on the instrument to get to the point we're at today. Our founding fathers would have *itch slapped anyone who thought this way. In fact it makes me chuckle to picture Thomas Jefferson or George Washington doing this. :stick: Heh heh heh

And just think about all the renovations you could do with that Abrahms! At least you couldn't make it worse! -

"Jostled passersby" Pfftt.....Is that what they say flash mobs do these days huh? Pathetic. -
Yep. I'd have done the same thing. You don't try to "hand" me your gun when I tell you to "drop" your gun. I'm not letting you get that close.

And as a network attached storage device. Hello 2TB external hard drive! I heard that the Asus is also easy to set up port forwarding on. This would be beneficial for those who would like to have an internet connected security camera or webcam so they can dial in from outside so to speak.
