  1. Guys, let it GO!

we're all aware that some people feel adversely about David's decision.

    Well and good.

Hell, I don't like the idea that you have to be a paying member to post adds in the trading post but you don't hear me bitching about it.

the bottom line is that everyone has a slightly or often widely different world view.

    and LIFE IS NOT FAIR.

If the policies of this board become too much then there is a great big internet out there waiting for you to find another forum to post your views.

If you notice, I've posted NO NAMES. I'm not damning anyone specifically but simply saying that there are times to fight and times to maintain your composure and just get along with folks.

This is one of those places and one of those times.

The fact that I personally also disagree with this decision STILL holds no bearing on the reality of the situation.

    ;)

    STOP it! :)

  2. And what quantifies "real sniper training"? There are some people, probably here on the site, that have been to some schools on their own dime that could shoot better than most. Military sniper schools are not the end all and be all. Police sniper schools IMO are much better for teaching accuracy and close-in observation.

The rifle is obviously just a tool. If the driver sucks, he doesn't need to be behind the wheel no matter what he is driving.

Several of those guns are used commonly as sniper rifles, both military and civilian applications.

Just because the latest and greatest leg humping tool is out there, doesn't mean that it's the bees knees. Heck the standard to go by is the Remington 700 PSS/M-24 system and it is under $2K with most bells and whistles you can get for it.

I am quite happy to take my M1A or my TAC-20 with me if I have to take it out of the trunk. Hopefully it can stay there and only come out for range days.

    I totally agree!!

for those of you who think you need the best and the brightest gear to perform, I would direct you to this event in order to dissuade you from handicapping yourself.

This is the story of George Farr and his astounding actions at the 1921 camp perry competition.

  3. I shoot my P3AT better than I shoot my P11 (the trigger is better, IMO.) My hands are pretty big so I found that putting one of the grip extending mag baseplates on helps me control it better. I had a Hogue grip sleeve on mine but with the 'pinky extension', I shoot it just as well without it. A piece of bicycle innertube also makes a good 'D.I.Y.' grip sleeve if you find that the sharp, little checkering bumps on the grip are chewing up your hand (checkering seems to be sharper on some P3ATs than on others.) Some folks just lightly sand the sharp peaks off. Some folks also lightly sand the flashing on the grip and inside the trigger guard smooth. Again, I think the flashing is worse on some than others.

    Just a few F.Y.I.:

    1. These little things generally need to be cleaned often in order to function well. They also like to be well-lubed. This is a really good 'lubrication guide' for use with the Kel Tecs, especially the P3AT:

    2. When you have it taken down for cleaning, watch the ejector. It is a seperate piece that just slides into the frame, can fall out when the slide is off and is easy to lose.

    3. A lot of Kel Tec owners also do a basic 'Fluff and Buff' which speeds up the break in process and aids in reliability. I don't think the newer P3ATs need this as much as the 1ST generation pistols did but the major points are polishing the feed ramp as well as polishing/making sure there are no burrs on the rails and making sure that the hammer interface in the slide is smooth.

I think you will really enjoy the little fellah - especially if you plan to carry it. I don't often carry mine as primary - usually it is a BUG - but have used it as primary at times and will, again. With a good pocket holster, it disappears in a front pocket and is so light you can almost forget it is there.

One final thing, the Kel Tec warranty is as good as you hear. I bought a NIB first-gen P3AT several years ago. This was back when many of them still had their 'problems'. Well, I didn't shoot it much until I got my carry permit in '08 and it was then I realized that it needed coaxing to be reliable (as I mentioned, I think this was more true of some of the 1st gen P3ATs than of the 2nd gen.) I would resolve one issue and it would have another until a few months back the hammer spring broke. I sent it back to Kel Tec, along with a list of the other problems it had encountered. KT has done several upgrades since the 1st gen. Also, the slide and extractor are completely different, now - and they don't have any of some of the 1st gen parts left. When I received my P3AT back, pretty much the only original part was the frame. They built me a brand new, 2nd generation P3AT on my 1ST generation frame - no questions asked and free of charge. My LGS owner sent it in for me with one of his shipments so I didn't even have to pay any shipping. Although I liked the way the 1st gen looked better, my 2nd gen has been 100% reliable, right out of the box with no 'break in' needed.

I had a 2nd Gen. P3AT. Bought it for my wife originally, but she said it hurt her hand to shoot it, so I traded it for a bursa thunder380.

The P3AT was awesome. right out of the box, with no malfunctions whatsoever.

in the time that I had it I fired probably 200 rounds before I cleaned it, then fired another 100 rounds though it again to trade it. It worked flawlessly with zero malfunctions. Accurate too, for what it was made for.

I guess my wife wanted something that would be easier on her hand when she emptied the magazine. (for a mouse gun this is the most effective way of stopping someone, imo)

    I wish I hadn't traded it.

  4. I saw an article and a news spot on them. They cater mainly to police and security services. They offer HCP classes but I don't know if Joe Blow public will be allowed to use the range. The place didn't seem too appealing to me. The owner was interviewed on Ch5 and he seemed a bit full of himself Ex military..sniper...seal...leo...went on and on about it. "Anyone who shoots here including LEOs must surrender their weapons to me for inspection and training before shooting here..." I think I'll stick to shooting into the hill behind the house.

If you get tired of shooting into the side of the hill, you can always come out to an E. Tn shoot one day Chip! :D

  5. His friends all tried to warn him but he held his head up high....:death:

If you don't have that movie, let me know..I'll burn a copy for ya and leave it at mark's with the other CD's

    :tough:

  6. meh. I once saw some guys doing that kind of fighting..they looked really surprised when we came out of the jungle, crossed the road about 20 yards from them..of course we were loaded down with all sorts of weapons, from an m249 to m16's with grenade launchers..we were the "green demons".

    :death:

Needless to say, they stopped what they were doing and just goggled at us until we got across the road.

I'm not much of a fan of ANY sort of fighting..it hurts too much even when you win, unless you get into girly man fights.

As for the Danzig vid... heh. he asked for it. I guess that's why he's a singer instead of a boxer.

    :tough:

  7. It would probably work just fine.

And I might even try it, if I ever run across any.

Right now, I'm considering trying unsalted lard, to see if something that's a little thicker won't work better than olive oil, in extreme humidity.

You see, 12 days after it's last oiling, the rains have caused my gun to rust up again. :-\

So I'm thinking about stripping it down, rubbing the parts with lard, and sticking them in a 300 degree oven for a while, to see if I can get a bit of a seasoning effect.

Oh, and I've also moved it further away from any open windows...

    J.

wow...I'm sorry to hear that Jaime!

I got home, cleaned my pistol and then lubed it up with tetra grease and it's still as pretty as the day I bought it.

    :death::D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

  8. Back in my younger days, I used to run into women like this.

I found that when I ignored their looks and did my job, they would get pretty bitchy themselves and eventually would throw a tantrum.

They hate guys like me because we don't give them their way according to their looks but instead, according to their actions/performance.

    :meh:

I'm guessing that she's self absorbed and as crazy as a Sh*thouse rat.

From what I've read..I'd almost lay money on my assessment.

And fellas? While you think it would be great to "hit it and quit it"..let me advise you...that kind of skank is special..it will follow you 1000 miles just to kick you in the huevos.

Never do anything in the dark that you can't explain in the light.

  9. I am actually considering a .22 magnum as my next purchase.

I want something to shoot with my wife when we go to the range.

It was a toss up between a magnum rifle if I can find a good one, and a winchester wildcat .22 bolt, with a heavy barrel.

I didn't even know about that rifle until one of the newer members on the board said something about it.

    winchesterwildcat.jpg

for 249 bucks, it looks to be a pretty nice rifle!

Winchester Wildcat 22 Lr Target/Varmint Hvy Barrel : Bolt Action at GunBroker.com

I will be doing more research though.

  10. I just found this post.

I sure would be interested. I just started shooting a year ago...love it. Currently have 9mm. .38special revolver and .22 semiauto. Its funny, I like shooting the .38 the most just cuz the trigger is so smooth. Unfortunately .38 is plenty expensive, and somewhat scarce.

    Gray

You're in luck! I very good friend just sent me about 65 pounds of brass...all .38 caliber.

if you're in E. Tn, you're welcome to come pick some up at the next shoot.

I'll be happy to give you an ammo can full.:)
