  1. Police: Man pulls gun on Kingsport pair, dumps weapon near daycare - Kingsport Times-News Online
  2. Otherwise, this guy might have had a chance to defend himself. Dad who split up fight in McDonald's shot dead - mirror.co.uk
  3. Guns don't cause a hostile work environment. Trying to infringe on other people's rights creates a hostile work environment.
  4. LEO's are highly trained and always safe with firearms. Like this guy: Or this one: 1 dead following Lebanon police pursuit, shooting - WKRN, Nashville, Tennessee News, Weather and Sports |
  5. Just a ploy to get us closer to national gun registration. They don't care about keeping guns out of the hands of criminals. The ultimate goal is to only allow government agents to legally have guns.
  6. It is sad that so many cops feel that they are the only ones who should be allowed to be armed.
  7. I believe most cyclists start out trying to hug the shoulder, but are forced to give it up by drivers who insist on trying to squeeze by at 60mph without moving over into the oncoming lane. Better to ride out in the lane and make it clear to people overtaking you that they are going to have to wait for oncoming traffic to clear before they can pass.
  8. Hamilton was a tool. No one will ever convince me that the majority of the founding fathers, who were greatly concerned with maintaining state sovereignty, thought it was a good idea for disputes between the federal government and the states to be decided by... the federal government. How completely and utterly absurd. You would have better luck convincing me that 1+1=3, or black is white and up is down. I don't believe they were all complete idiots. I'll just leave it at that.
  9. On the plus side, looks like Phil Roe and John Duncan voted against it. When the revolution starts, I'm moving back to East Tn.
  10. I really enjoyed the book. I hope the movie does it justice.
  11. Surely you don't think there are any health professional out there who would abuse this right, or, heaven forbid, not be fully qualified to make such a judgement?
  12. This. I never worried too much about my safety when I was single, and I often put myself into ridiculously dangerous situations when I was young and dumber than I am now. But now I feel the responsibility of protecting my wife and kids, as well as protecting myself so I can continue to provide for them.
  13. I can see banning certain models, or at least requiring a backup, for a class that involves 1000 rounds or something. But for an HCP class? If you really think it is going to be that much trouble, then you would be doing the student a service by letting them shoot it in class so they could see how unreliable it is. Once the Bersa starts messing up, you can hand them the loaner so they can compare. I would have a hard time taking any kind of advice on firearms from a place where the owner/employees are so proud of their gun-snobbery. And the 'It might mess up our schedule' argument is just pathetic. My 2-year-old makes up better excuses than that.
  14. Good example of why you might need more than a 10 round mag.
  15. I don't think the fight for gun rights will ever end; unless, perhaps, it ends with a complete loss of those rights. Historically, governments have always sought to become ever more powerful. One of the ways they assert this power is by limiting the rights of the governed to bear arms.
  16. Genius! Why didn't I think of this? Make basic firearms training mandatory in high school. Then there would be no need for a permit, because everyone would have the training. It would be a heckuva lot more useful than a lot of the stuff they teach in HS, too. BTW, my school had the hunter safety course in 6th grade. Everyone took the course. I guess if your parents had some kind of objection, they could have held you out.
  17. I'm not a lawyer, but the decisions by the judge in this case seemed to be completely whacked-out.
  18. Looks like his legal team is going to continue to appeal to try to get the conviction completely overturned. Maybe the Gov. is going to wait for that to play out before he makes a decision on a pardon.
  19. That's a really good point. Add to that the fact that huge numbers of military would probably head home to take care of their own families in any kind of major national crisis. In the end, they would probably be doing well to control a few major cities.
  20. +1 If they suspend habeas corpus, does the rest even matter? Once they can throw you in jail for no reason, you have no rights.
  21. What? Am I the only one who does this?
  22. For anyone truly interested, a little research into Rex 84 is called for: Rex 84 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (I know Wikipedia is not authoritative, but it is a good starting point.)
  23. I believe that most of what you are saying is correct. A state of emergency was declared, which (I think) was legal and did give the state of LA additional police powers. I think the whole 'martial law' thing, however, came from the idiot mayor of NO who had no authority to do anything of the sort. What I'm thinking of is martial law declared by the federal government, either for the entire country or just for parts of it.
  24. Curious what others think: If there were economic meltdown leading to massive civil unrest and the declaration of martial law, would the federal government immediately declare civilian ownership of guns illegal? I know it depends to some extent on who is in the WH, but just in general what do you think?
  25. The members of my family who remember that time all told me pretty much the same thing. They were already dirt poor, so it did not make a difference. They had chickens, goats, pigs, etc., and whatever crops they could raise. There was a local mill where they took corn to be ground into cornmeal. That is how they sustained themselves. Incidentally, I've always been told that goats are the best thing to have if you need to 'live off the land'. They can survive just about anywhere.
