Working for a company banning weapons on property.
JReedEsq replied to Krull's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Ahh, a benefit of self-employment is walking around my office armed. I do try to cover up if clients are here. Not like I'm going to worry about "printing" though. -
I'm not saying it should be a first choice at all, but it would be a great option. As I mentioned, my first choice would be a large awd or 4x4 vehicle with bikes on the roof. Adding a few light bikes on the roof would not compromise cargo space much, if any, and it gives you an option that you wouldn't otherwise have. Also, in the event of a natural disaster that creates a food or fuel crisis, I'd like to be able to get provisions for the family while conserving fuel and keeping a low profile. Now carrying a gun on the bike, that could be a whole other thread....

I've been mountain biking competively for about 10 years. I can't imagine a better way to cover a lot of ground quietly through the woods than on a mountain bike. Requires no fuel and minimal mechanical knowledge to fix about anything than can go wrong. My mountain bike is very tactical since it's black: Yeti Cycles // Ride Driven It's really a little to light and racy for a true BOV but I would definitely toss it on the roof rack (and my wife's bike too) if we were getting out of dodge in a hurry. We also have a trailer that I can pull my son in. Some of my cycling friends don't know whey I'm interested in guns and lots of gun guys may think cycling is a little wierd but the way I see it they both would help one be more self-sufficient in case of natural disaster etc... I'm a newbie with shooting and I think my wife is hoping I don't spend as much time and money on the hobby as I have with cycling. At one time I had 7 fully functional high end bikes.

Hey guys, I've been reading and posting for a few months now so I guess I'm overdue for an introduction. I'm realatively new to shooting and I'd like to say thanks for all I've learned on the site so far. I'm an attorney in Knoxville, I got my HCP recently for self-defense because I often deal with folks I might not interact with in a different profession. If always said people shouldn't carry unless they are willing to practice regularly and I've been pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoy it. With a family, a law practice, and other hobbies, (mountain biking, road cycling, hiking, general fitness, etc...) I have limited time but I do think I'll get at least a few more handguns and maybe a few long guns once I get a real safe. Thanks for info.

That arguement would go nowhere fast. If that were the case all automakers would be sued for previously selling cars w/o airbags etc...

Why does every thread about Glocks have to end up with a debate about the merits of an external safety v/s no external safety? Some of us just want to hear about updates to the ergonomics or performance of the gun. Or in my case, some of just want to know when new 26's will be available and the price etc...
-
I have the cowhide version so I can't answer your direct question but I wanted to chime in that I have a supertuck and it is very comfortable. I'm new to carrying so I don't have much to compare it to but it seems like a good product from a good company.

Ammo's cheaper, so practice will be easier to financially pull off. Where the hole is will have much more of an impact than if the hole is 1mm bigger or smaller, and your going to have more of a say in that matter if you have more practice. +1 That made the decision for me. Lean mean and 9x19!

Mine was issued on the 18th too. Still waiting too...

I cannot apologize for the actions of others but I would like to say that there are many of us here who will welcome all responsible citizens who want to learn about shooting for sport and self-defense, regardless of their ethnicity. I welcome you from Knoxville and I hope you stick around. Don't let the actions of a few drive you away.

I still consider myself a newbie but my limited experience confirms the above and my vote would be for 9mm. I bough a G19 to use for EDC and I can shoot it better than anything I've tried so far. I've not tried all the offerings from Sig, M&P, and HK etc... (some of them look really nice) but I intend to stay with 9mm for any more guns I may acquire.

Just curious, What kind of counselor?

I've been into that place a few times and had some very friendly service, but also been there when I was treated like an annoyance because I'm still new to this and I've asked a lot of questions. All I can say is the guys at Gunny's in Maryville seem knowledgeable and make time talk even when they are busy. I've also been to PDO in Lenior City they were super friendly and seem to have really good prices. As a small-business guy, I prefer to support local business whenever possible. I'll likely comparison shop these two shops and skip out on CCA. Before I completed my education, I spent years working in bicycle shops. As an experienced rider and long-time mountain bike racer, I've seen countless shop guys talk down to people new to the sport or who will never be as dedicated or "fit" as they are. I've always thought it was a really good way to turn people off to the sport. Everyone was new to their hobbies at some point and if shop owners value the public perception of gun owners and want shooting to be a popular hobby they should take the time to answer the "stupid questions". Just because the guys at CCA (or any other store) answer the same question 50 times a day doesn't mean they should be rude about it. Why should I go to CCA where I might get lucky and get decent service, if I can go to PDO or Gunnys where I'm pretty sure I will get good service?

I was just told mine was also issued on Dec 18th!

Just sent her an email. Thanks!

Great news. I submitted my info on the same day. I guess I should check on mine. Do you have Lisa's email handy?

Thanks, Mcurrier. I spent too much time on that response when I should be working... Sometimes it is more important to be clear than to be precise. Nice to be self-employed but I gotta work to pay the bills. Guess I'll have to stay off the web the rest of the afternoon.

I agree with the gist of what you are saying but being predominately "euro-trash" myself (predominately Norwegian), you gotta realize that a lot of us came over long after the natives were "crapped on" and we don't particularly like being made to feel guilty about stuff that happend hundreds of years ago. When my Great-Grandparents immigrated from Norway they wanted to be Americans, they embraced the culture and never looked back. I was speaking to a Jewish friend (2nd generation American) recently who echoed much the same sentiment about his family and their desire to learn the language and culture when they arrived. His saddness was that he's afraid the British common law, language, ideals, and principles that have blessed this country may be lost in the shuffle. Ironic that to of us that are not English (at least not to my knowledge) are talking about how much this country has benefited from Anglo influence. I agree with much of your quote above but take serious exception to the "worm is turning" concept. We should be able to embrace others without having to apologize for who we are. It now seems that too many people are forgetting important concepts of our founding fathers like "The government that governs best is that which governs least". Instead they focus of feeling entitled to certain things and they turn to the government to provide a solution to way too many of their problems. True equality requires everyone to be treated the same. I have faith that people of all ethnic/religious groups can provide for themselves without the need to demand special treatment or being handled with "kid" gloves. It is ironic that some in our government advocate discrimination in the name of equality, erroding time-honored principles in the name of "separation of church and state" and that they would allow political correctness to get in the way of common sense (see Ft. Hood). It is not new people or cultures that we should fear, but the erosion of a values and principles that have made this country great. We should strive to treat others with fairness and respect if we are to enlighten them to our values and culture. It is a difficult balance. We must refuse to appologize for injustices from before our time or from outside our control, while preventing injustices within our control. We must must co-exist peacefully with other cultures but hold our ground firmly when others try to take our culture from us. We must be tolerant of religous beliefs that differ from ours, but we must refuse to hide our religion or to re-write the history books merely because some people aren't comfortable with the fact that our country was founded on Christian principles. In short, we must try to live out American principles in our everyday lives. The American way of life hasn't ever been ethnic, so our real fear shouldn't be ethnic, but we should fear the general erosion of the principles that contributed to the sucess of our nation. - Proud euro trash

+1 to that. We are all entitled to our opinions but the point of this was new Glock Devlopments etc... not Glock v/s XD etc... He can have his opinion but bashing Glock in a Glock thread is analogous to me going to a revolver forum and telling the revolver fans they like antiquated guns or telling hunters that sitting in a tree stand is boring. We all have a right to have an opinion, but not every thread is the appropriate place to post it.

Rumor has it that they will be around $40-$50 more per each model, but they will include 3 magazines instead of 2 (as currently offered).

ATTN VENDORS!! When can I buy a new 26?

I'm not sure I'll like a cargo pocket carry either but IWB or OWB won't work with my pack so I'm exploring other methods.

Anyone planning to carry in the Smokies after the new law goes into effect in Feb? My wife and I like to hike and I'm waiting to receive my HCP so I've given it some thought to carrying while hiking. I've spent countless hours mountain biking (not in the smokies b/c it's prohibited), hiking, and running in the woods but I've never felt so vunerable as I have when I carry our 17-month-old son in a backpack. I can even run away quickly if faced with a threat. By the way, the backpack would prevent me from carrying on the waist, so I may have to try to pocket carry in a cargo pocket. I don't want to open carry on the thigh b/c that might make the hippies nervous. Your thoughts???
