At one point I had decided to get a PF-9 but changed my mind for two reasons: 1) I can't get over the poor fit & finish of Kel-Tec. 2) When I put it in my pocket it wasn't that much smaller than my 26 and the whole point of getting something smaller was to find something that pocket carry in any pants. I was really against .380 because of ammo availibility, but, like you said, it's not a range gun. Finally, the PF-9 was too close in size to my Glock 26 and just enough bigger than the LCP to make it a little less "pocketable". I can carry my Glock 19 with a jacket or loose-fitting untucked shirt. I can carry my 26 almost any other time, and the LCP is for the exceptions. Heck, it could probably be clipped inside your underoos if you tried. Since it's not a primary, I decided the ammo isn't a dealbreaker to get something that will carry anywhere (that HCP is allowed of course).

I vote Glock 26. Even though I have an LCP, I rarely carry it since the 26 can be carried so easily and it actually shoots like a real gun.

I have simple tastes so I'd say Sig or Glock. What about the FN tactical?

Does a persoon lose their HCP for good if.....?

I'd recommend talking to a local attorney ASAP. If there was an "ex-parte" order of protection, (a temporary OP issued by petition and not after a trial), or an agreed order (agreed by the parties and w/o a trial) you should be ok in theory. Even so, if you don't want to be "red-flagged" by the dept. of safety, I'd suggest you get a lawyer to check and see what the Court actually has has on file and get any issues sorted out before you reapply. Ask around for a lawyer that's interested in guns and he'll probably have to spend less time (which means charge you less $$$) because he'll already be familiar with the HCP process. -
I came very close to purchasing a P22 more than once. I was skeptical about the quality, but I figured it wouldn't be a carry gun so I almost bought one anyway. This makes me glad I opted out. Besides, I finally found an Advantage Arms .22 conversion kit which which is what I really wanted anyway.

This gun looks like a Glock but that seems to be where the similarities end. I thought it had a nice finish and feel to it when I first saw one several months ago. I wouldn't buy any carry gun with these kinds of reliability issues and this thing certainly wouldn't make a range toy. I bought an LCP a little while back and it's had a perfect 100 rd break in period. I've only carried it once or twice, however, as I'm much more accurate and feel far safer with my Glock 26.

Legal distance to shoot attacker with a knife?

You must have reasonable fear of imminent death or serious bodily injury. Your instructor might want to pay a little closer attention to the video presentation the next time he teaches the class. -
When I handled one, the Gen 4 with no backstrap attachment felt ever-so-slightly smaller in diameter than the Gen 3. I didn't measure it, but one of the reviews I read confirmed this also. I also like the feel of the modified RTF. To the OP, I'd say wait until you can at least feel the Gen 4 to make a decision. I think it felt better, but not way better. I have no intention of replacing my G19 or my G26 with Gen 4s. I wanted a full-size and I ordered the Gen 4 I like the feel of it. When you factor in that you get 3 mags with it instead of 2, there really wasn't a price premium. I also wasn't buying it as an EDC, so I don't mind putting a lot of rounds through it before I feel comfortable to use it for nightstand or carry duty. I guess I'll be surprised and dissappointed if there are issues since I've used all kinds of cheap, dirty and really old ammo in my 3rd Gen guns and I've never had one FTE or FTF. I'll make sure to post if there are any issues.

I agree with CKs assertion that some people are probably looking for a grip smaller than they need. I thought my 19 was a little to big before I reassessed my grip and found out my fit on all the Glocks (except the .45s) is actually pretty good.
-
I just ordered a 4th Gen 17. I plan to test it out well before with a variety of ammo before it is eligible to move from the big safe to the quick access "bump in the night safe" where my 3rd gen 19 currently resides. I'll post any issues since any 4th Gen problems will likely affect either both models. I think Davidson's (Gungenie.com) already has 4th Generation 19s and 23s in their search engine so they should be available very soon. The 4th Gen does have a shorter trigger reach and a better feel to me.

First initial, last name, and I'm a lawyer. I guess I could have chosen "shark" or any number of obscenities....

I also wear suits and sport coats and often carry iwb outside of a tucked shirt at about 4:00. I am always armed in my office and I don't think anyone has noticed. I guess some people might be shocked depending on what kind of client they are, but either no one has noticed or no one has said anything. My guess is that people are probably not looking at you as close as you think they are and they probably won't notice you're carrying unless they are looking for it. Further, if they are looking that closely, then you may want to watch out for them. Now that it's warm, I'm often pocket carrying my Glock 26, so there's always the chance of some printing, but it's not been an issue. Some of these things have been stated but here are my thoughts/observations: 1) I don't think people rarely notice either minor printing or a lump under your jacket. 2) If you're wearing suits and are polite, friendly and well-spoken, people don't generally ask any questions. 3) I wouldn't advise anyone to wear a badge but a LEO because (a) you could be mistaken for impersonating LE, and (they reinforce the stereotype of HCPers as wannabe cops.

Get a Glock 19 or Glock 26. They are easy to shoot, easy to clean, and ammo is cheap and available. Tell him you have to keep the .357 because it is two calibers in one (.38 & .357) which is a big benefit if ammo becomes scarce again.

Hypothetical Question- Restaurants and Carrying
JReedEsq replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Just like the DUI statute that allows someone to be charged if they are "in control of the vehicle". What that means is that even if they try to sleep it off in their car they can be charged. It only gives them incentive to drive home to get off the road. I've seen people charged in that very situation. -
Cabelas has .380 in stock. A few different brands are $18 for 50.

I vote for a Ruger SP101 revolver, a much heavier .380 or the Beretta Tomcat. I think my LCP has a sustantial amount of recoil. I shot with a few guys yesterday; everything from a .44 revolver, to various modern pistols, and a few 12 gauges. The two guns that everyone commented on the recoil were my LCP and the similar Taurus. It's not a fun recoil either, like the .44 or a full-size .45, it's just a nasty little snap and the gun is so light it tries to jump out of your hand. I shoot my Glock 26 sooo much better than the LCP, and my 19 a little better than the 26.

+26; I wouldn't change a thing about my 26.

Check out Starbrite. I've been friends with the owner and his wife since my time at MTSU in the late 90s. It was started by his dad but he took it over several years ago. He's a great guy and I can't imagine that he wouldn't run a good business.

I've seen a lot of speculation that the stiffer recoil springs might make the .40 more reliable to the detriment of the 9mm. I'm very interested in one of these so I've scanned Al Gore's entire global interweb and I've not found any actual reports of problems. Thanks for posting!

I have a Gen 3 G26 on my person right now. The changes for Gen 4 are 1) the smaller grip with inserts to make it med or large and 2) a dual recoil spring setup. Since the subcompacts already have a dual recoil spring, the only advantage I see to the Gen 4 is the smaller grip. How well does the Gen 3 fit your hand? Unless you have really small hands, I probably wouldn't wait on a Gen 4.

We have a Columbia tent. It was an excellent value. If I were going to do a LOT of cold weather camping I might spend more for a MTN Hardware, NorthFace or Marmont. It has been sufficiently waterproof for me. It isn't the lightest or easiest to pack up, but for my use, I would buy one again. The majority of the time I think Columbia stuff is just as good as the most expensive stuff.

I'm glad I know how to disagree with someone's politics and still think they are funny.

You have to disclose everything, and I mean everything for the "character & fitness" evaluation to become licensed to practice law in Tennessee. This includes every address where you have resided, every job you've ever had (I had a ton of temp ones in college), and every speeding ticket. I had so many tickets before I was 18 I wrote and essay explaining that the board would have to use their authority to check Knox County and KPD records b/c I'm sure I couldn't remember them all and I would be glad to discuss any if necessary. When I was younger I never once got pulled over without getting a ticket. I even had a new KPD officer write me a ticket for not having a passenger side rear view mirror, and I had my cars searched lots of time based, I'm sure, on the fact that they didn't like my appearance. The interesting thing is that several of those experiences made me want to be a lawyer and "fight the cops". Now that I am a lawyer I actually have a huge amount of respect for what they do. I still see them do boneheaded things sometimes, but overall my perspective has changed quite a bit.
