  1. Don't worry about me guys. I have no intention of shooting a snake or anything else unless it's an absolutely unavoidable. Only reason I brought up the snake shot is to point out that if I were to carry a round of it I wouldn't count on it being effective on anything larger than a snake.

    New Gun, Or Not?

I don't think you'll regret getting a G26. You can' beat the having a smaller gun that feels very similiar to the gun you shoot the most. The only problem I had was that most people want to keep theirs so I never found a deal on a used one. I just gave up one day a got a new one.
  3. +1; I've seen this happen many times. I'm never surprised at some of the things people will do or say in the courtroom.
  4. Yeah, probably so, and I absolutely would prefer that option. Only thing is lots of times I've got my toddler in a backpack which my wife conveinently puts all our food in also. I've spent a ton of time mountain biking, trail running and hiking without fear of anything. In my current setup, however, I'm just not that agile and I can't move that quickly away from any threat. A friend of my wife's was bitten by a poisonous snake a few years ago so I know it can happen.

    New Gun, Or Not?

You don't have a G26??? I'm 100 percent convinced that's what you should get. With the right pants and an Aholster you can pocket carry it, yet it still shoots like a real gun. Mine is only slighly harder to conceal than my LCP, yet it shoots nearly as well as a G17, (at self defense range anyway).

    New Gun, Or Not?

That's a great reason to have multiples of the same gun.
  7. I've got 3 9mms loaded with either 124 grain Gold Dots (G19 and G26) or 147 grain Hornadys G17). I don't believe in magic bullets so any quality JHP is fine by me. I have PDX in my LCP because that's the only .380 JHP I could find. I've thought about carrying 1 round of snake shot, but only for hiking in the woods where I might see snakes.

    New Gun, Or Not?

Why not just get another Glock? That way you can scratch your itch for something new, but still focus on technique rather than the gun.
  9. I thought the scope seemed pretty silly for a shotgun. I've shot other peoples shotguns but never owned one. Thanks for helping me figure out what I want.
  10. Just playing around with Google and I found this: Walmart.com: Mossberg Barrel/Scope Combo (For 12-gauge, 500 Shotguns): Optics Couldn't I just buy a short barreled model to keep at home and then switch to this barrel for plinking around?
  11. Any opinions on this? Mossberg 590SP 12ga 20" 9 Shot CB w/Heat Shield for Sale at Buds Gun Shop $359.00
  12. I had a bit of fun shooting a friend's 12 gauge at some clay's a while back and I have a few shotgun questions. The gun would be for occasional informal clay shooting as well as back-up HD. I say backup because I prefer to keep everything locked up and I have a pistol safe I can get to much quicker than I can access anything else. A few questions: 1. The bead sight on the Mossberg 500s I've seen look like they would unscrew with a hex wrench. Is it easy to srew on a fiber optic in its place? What would be pros and cons of a simple fiber optic versus buying one of the models that come with rifle sights? Anybody use a folding stock? How about the Knoxx stocks?
  13. I prefer Glocks, but if I didn't I think I'd try the M+P 9.
  14. Maybe he needs an LCP, snubby or some other really easy to carry gun. I've only carried my LCP a few times because I know I don't shoot it nearly as well as a real gun. However, it is really easy to stick in my pocket if I'm in a hurry or just walking outside to take out the trash or something.
  15. I've bought 50 rounds from Cabelas and 50 rounds from Bill's in Maryville. No issues at all out of my Ruger LCP. As for it being dirty. I think all ammo is dirty, but the 9mm Federal from Wal-Mart seems a little bit dirtier than the rest.
  16. These threads are silly. It all comes down to what you can it with. I have 9s because I can shoot them better and faster. If you can shoot your .40/.45/.357 well then that's what you should carry. Caliber is such a small part of the self-defense equation. If you fail in a self-defense situation, it will probably be because you didn't hit your intended target. The only exception I see to this would be in a large animal situation. If I wanted a bigger caliber for that scenario, I probably would skip right on up to a 10mm.
  17. You do not have to accept payment if they say it's repairable and you know it's not. If that happens, I'd suggest you go to your Ford dealer for estimates if you purchased the car new. My gut tells me that previous posters are right and this car will never be the same.
  18. To each his own, but supporting the Moons is one reason I won't buy a Kahr.
  19. Cabela's is the best to find it lately. The most reasonable explanation I've heard for the small supply is the combination of a surge in new .380 CCW guns combined with the fact that it isn't a military or LE round, so until recently, there hasn't been a reason for the manufacturers to produce it in high volume.
  20. I've not posted pics before and I don't know when I'll have time to figure it out. I'm at the Dr.s office right now with a sick toddler.
  21. I didn't use either of the backstrap additions so I can't comment on them that much. Without them the gun feels just a smidge smaller than a Gen 3 17. With the Medium added it would be a little larger than the size of a Gen 3 and the I didn't even consider the large. As for durability concerns, the only functional difference is the new recoil spring, but it's basically a bigger version of the setup that has worked just fine in the subcompacts for years. If there are problems, I'm sure Glock will send out replacement springs. I'm still planning to do some more shooting before I carry it or put it in the quick-safe for things that go bump in the night. Someone also asked about new 21s. I've not heard or seen anything about new .45s so it may be a while.
  22. From what I heard today, they (19s and 23s) should be available in the next 3-4 weeks.
  23. Just wanted to chime in on my Gen 4 G17 that I picked up today. There have been concerns that perhaps the 4th Gen 9mms wouldn't be as reliable as the 3rd Gens due to the stouter recoil spring that was developed (so the story goes) to improve the performance of the .40 cals. Just wanted to let you guys know that I picked up my new gun today and put 100 rounds of WWB, and about 50 more rounds that were a mix of115 grain ultramax JHP, 124 grain NATO FMJ, and some 147 grain Hornady JHP. Not one single issue! Although my accuracy only a little bit better than a good day with my 3rd gen G19, I felt like I was consistantly back on target faster due to significantly less muzzle flip. Nothing like a little lunchtime shooting a Gunny's to break up an otherwise stressful day. Gotta get back to work now and try to stay off the forum for the rest of the afternoon!
  24. Good to know.
  25. I don't think you can get the OD guns with factory night sites. I tried to do that when I ordered my OD G26. I really wanted OD, so I just had some Mepros put on after the fact.
