.22lr .380 9mm (x3) .40
-
I have a Ruger LCP that has been flawless for me. They are about as easy to carry as a medium sized pocket knife. The ammo is out there and if you look a little you can find it for 15-18 per box. I don't think anything that small will be much of a range gun anyway. Later on, you will probably want to check out the Glock 26, Springfield XD9 subcompact, and the Smith and Wesson M&P9 sub for guns that will much more accurate and more pleasant to shoot.

I looked long and hard at several different .22s before I bought a .22 conversion kit for one of my Glocks. It's obviously different than shooting a defense caliber, but it's still a great way to spend more time shooting your carry gun.

Have you decided not to buy a 380 because of the ammo shortage?
JReedEsq replied to Will Carry's topic in Handguns
+1, This is my view exactly. I also have other carry guns in the event I can't get it at all. Lately, it seems like Cabelas is the best place to get it. -
I love the Aholster pocket holster. I have one for me G26 and one for my LCP and that's what I would suggest for purse carry. While I love my G26, and I shoot it way more accurately than I do the LCP, I think it might be a little big heavy for a female to pocket carry. I'm actually not a big proponent of a .380, (please let's not go in to a caliber war) but the LCP on her person would be better than a G26 in her purse. IMHO; of course.

The opening at the front of the slide has to be larger on the Gen 4 to accomodate the dual spring. This of course, renders it incompatible with the older recoil springs. The more folks I talk to, the more I think the noise was probably nothing to worry about and will probably go away completely. It's not "Glock-like" to have a break-in period. However, it still is at zero failures, which seems pretty Glock-like to me. Overall, I'm happy with it and would buy one again.

Earlier in the week, Bill's Outpost in Maryville had a used GP100 that looked like it may have never been fired. I almost bought it but I had already decided my next purchase would be a shotgun (which I got yesterday). It was a 4", stainless, could have passed for new.

You should be able to keep it all if it was a straight match. On the other hand if they had a "vesting" period, that you had to wait before the matched portion becomes, yours, that changes things somewhat. I would suggest looking in to a Roth IRA. I'm no financial planner but my understanding is that on a Roth, you pay the taxes now so that you don't have to pay any on the interest when you retire. If you are young this equates to a significant tax savings in the long run. It may be tempting to cash it out since it doesn't seem like much. If you're young though, the magic of compound interest can eventually turn it in to a lot more.

Unless I am cornered, I would just run. I can't imagine that a guy could chase that quickly while carrying a full vat if grease.

Awesome! Why didn't one of you really experienced guys tell me that before??? I guess I just didn't notice any "break-in" noises with my G26 or my G19 because I had nothing to compare them to. I bought the G19 last August as a first handgun to basically learn how to shoot. Perhaps I was a little paranoid about the new 17 since my G19 and G26 are broken in and feel a little smoother by comparison.

Here's the follow up as promised. My work took to Blount County today so I stopped off at Gunny's and put 150 rounds through the gun pretty quickly. Not one FTE or FTE. After the first 2 mags I stepped out of the range, took off the hearing protection, worked the slide and it already sounded like it was smoothing out. After a very quick cleaning the spring noise is now so quiet that I can only hear it if I work the slide very slowly and listen for specifically for it. The gun has at least 300 malfunction-free rounds through it so I'm starting to think it was fine all the time and that the new spring just makes the cycling sound a little different. Almost like you can hear the spring decompressing if you listen closely enough. Can you blame me for being overly cautious with a carry gun? (I consider all my handguns as potential carry guns). The odd thing is that I think the noise was more noticable before I shot it today. Again, no malfunctions and Glock says they noise will likely go away (and that they will send me a new recoil assembly if it doesn't) so who am I to complain? It also feels like it is sprung just a tiny bit stiffer than my 26 or 19 but I'm really not seeing a downside since it seems to make the recoil softer. It has almost no muzzle rise and I shot it more accurately than any gun I've ever fired. Some of my shooting today was fairly quick, but when I slowed down I was happy to get 2 10 round groups in the 8 ring at 10 yards. I'm still fairly new at this so I was pretty happy with that. Finally, I shot all Walmart Federal today.

First, I'm no expert and I don't own one of these. However, I have put a few rounds down one as well as similiar Smith and Taurus revolvers. If I bought a revolver tommorrow, I would probably get a 4" Ruger in .357. S&W is nice but there is something about the over-built nature of the Rugers that appeals to me;(especially since it wouldn't be and EDC). The last guy I saw with an SP101 liked it so much he bought a 2nd.

+1; In Tennessee, you are an employee at will and unless you have an employment contract, they can fire you for any reason not protected by federal law. Examples of firings prohibited by federal law would be any action based on gender, race, religious preference, and to a lesser extent, age and disability. The last two categories are not subject to "strict scrutiny" which means there are limited circumstances where they can be factors in a termination and/or hiring preferences. I'm not sure what kind of area you work in, but my suggestion would be to just park somewhere off the premesis.

That sounds like a good deal but it might be an even better deal for someone with giant paws. If it were me, I'd pass unless it were the 21SF.

Just got of the phone with Glock. They were very friendly. We discussed the issue in detail and discussed that everything else appeared to be in working order. They seem to think the spring just isn't broken in and it should be ok. They prescribed an additional 200 rounds and if it doesn't smooth out by then, they say they will "get me taken care of one way or another." Sounds good to me. The noise is there, but I think their response is reasonable given that the gun hasn't actually malfuctioned at all. I explained that I just want to be cautious since it is a firearm, after all. They agreed and said don't hesitate to call back. I'll re-post either way since I know some of you guys may be dying to tell me I'm drunk on the koolaid and shouldn't have been so quick to jump on the Gen4 bandwagon.

I was trying to get lots of work done today and forgot to call Glock. I think I call them when I'm in the office tommorrow. Update to follow.

Thanks for all the info guys. I decided that I'll buy this one for now. It will handle HD needs and informal target shooting. I'll decide later on if I want a second gun for clays or second barrel. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/firearms-classifieds/39752-rare-remington-870-police-magnum-12ga-extras.html

I did take it apart and put it together again slowly. Still makes a noise but it's pretty quiet. It may be normal but I think I'll have the dealer look at it later this week.

Sorry I still haven't had time to figure out how to post pics but I have a question for you guys. I put a few rounds down range at lunchtime today with no issues. I did notice a slight clicking noise when when I put the slide back on after cleaning it. My other Glocks definitely sound smoother when working the slide and I think I would have noticed this before. Do you guys think this is the recoil spring just breaking in? I have been an early Gen 4 adopter based on the assumption that the dual spring is just a bigger version of what has worked well in the subcompacts for years. But now I don't really want to carry this gun again until I sort out this issue. I don't want to take it to the dealer prematurely since the gun still hasn't had one FTE or FTF. Am I over-reacting? Your thoughts? By the way, I took it apart a few times to make sure everything is straight. I also have 2 other Glocks and I clean every time I shoot so I'm very familiar with their take-down and re-assembly.

Which Carry Weapon ammo round do you prefer?

+1; I don't recall where I read it but apparently the FBI is actually buying this ammo too. -

I have read that much of the anti-147 grain 9mm talk is the result of some pretty old HP technology and that the newer stuff has more reliable expansion. I don't claim to be an expert, but I do think the technology has likely improved since much of that stuff was written. -
There is more than one reason for the theory that "an armed society is a polite society".

+1; except I want the 20SF.

Do you guys think this is a decent deal? Used Mossberg 590 Mariner 12ga 9 Shot for Sale at Buds Gun Shop $359.00 I decided I wasn't going to spend any more money on toys for a while but I've got some ebay auctions ending soon and it it looks like I might end up with enough to cover one of these. I think simplier will be better than too tacticool for my purposes. Whatever I get I'll probably just put a little fiber optic on in place of the bead and then maybe upgrade the stock later. Is this a decent deal? I'm always time challenged, so I'll probably never get around to browsing pawn shops etc....

You should be really proud of her!
