I've got a 26, 19, and Gen4 17. I love 9mm, but I might like to have a larger caliber handgun for my next purchase. Would I be crazy to skip .40 and .45 in favor of 10mm? I've shot a few .45s and the recoil doesn't bother me in a full-size gun, although I don't like it much in a smaller gun. Part of the reason I chose 9mm for my primary carry guns is practice cost and availability, but when I shot the subcompacts (G26 v/s G27) I felt I was more accurate and much faster with the 9mm than .40. I know ammo availability is worse with 10mm than .45 but I'm sure I will still shoot 9mm primarily and I hear I could get a .40 conversion barrel and shoot .40 through it if necessary. Sorry to hi-jack your thread, but I don't often see someone who owns a G20 and G21.

Turkey Creek Wal-Mart (West Knoxville) had nearly full shelves this afternoon. The only caliber that was slim was .380, but I picked up one of 3 WWB 100 rd value-packs. I was in a big hurry but it looked like they had lots of .45, 9mm, .40 and almost probably everything else.

Can you give some insight into shooting the 21 v/s 20? Recoil etc...

Sweet! I'll have to look into that....

+1; Some people make a good decision when they choose to go unarmed. I've had friends who've said they don't think they could take a life under any circumstances. Personally, I lost any doubt the day I found out my wife was pregnant with our son. If they really doubt their willingness or psychological capacity to act in self-defense, then they are better off without firearms. That is fine by me, as long as they recognize my right to protect myself and my family.

I'd lean toward the 20 SF, but I don't see how you can go wrong with the choices you mentioned.

Problems with those that carry in a restaurant?
JReedEsq replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I agree with you that I'd like to see more tolerance for disagreement. It is really hard to be sympathetic, however, to someone who hurls lots of insults, and then complains when things aren't civil. -
+1 for the Aholster. I don't have a PM9 but I have 2 Aholster pocket holsters. My Glock 26 is in one right now and I also have one for my Ruger LCP. The Aholster is the only pocket holster I know of that allows the comfortable carry and draw of a gun as big as my G26. My LCP has been reliable but I don't love it. I'd consider a PM9 if they weren't so darn expensive. It would be hard for me to pay that much for a gun I probably wouldn't carry very often. Would be nice to stick with 9mm for all my carry guns though. Congrats on your PM9.

I hate to see the forum errode into senseless insults. Even though I don't agree with you, I nearly chimed in defense of your right to disagree. Then it ocurred to me that you initiated the insults in the OP. Sorry CK but you got what you deserved. It's like you threw dirt at the whole board and then complained when you got sand in your eyes in return. -
Glock 27 - Uncomfortable to carry

A Crossbreed Supertuck will solve your problem. -
Glock 27 - Uncomfortable to carry
JReedEsq replied to lunarpowered's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Something like a Crossbreed Supertuck, MTAC, KHolster etc... Would place a layer of leather between you and the gun. I'm wearing my G19 in a Supertuck right now and barely notice it. With my 26, I can forget it's even there. On 2nd thought, Glocks suck. I have a Ruger LCP I'll trade you for that terrible terrible gun. -

Don't you rely on the judgment of others every time you pull your car out into traffic? I usually agree with your posts CK, but if you don't like our backwoods ways, you can always move to Chicago or DC. I hear that they are all educated, enlightened and has no need or use for firearms. -
Trust me, I watch him with an eagle eye. I'm just more concerned about things other than coyotes.
-
These are my thoughts too. I'm also just curious about coyotes in general. The poop actually didn't look like regular dog poop so who knows? I'll tell my wife that I've consulted with the TGO experts.

My wife and I were doing a hike in the Smokies last Saturday when we noticed what appeared to us to be dog crap in the middle of the trail. We have lots of friends who've seen coyotes in East TN this year including a friend who had a small dog killed. I guessed that the poop we saw was left by someone who took their dog on the trail illegially since it was right in the middle of the trail. Thoughts? Edit: We're planning to the Smokies again this weekend and the wife is convinced that we shouldn't let our 2 year old out of the backpack to roam on the trails at all. I've always got a close eye on him anyway, so I think we shouldn't let a little dog crap keep him from romping around some. 2nd edit: I'm talking about my 2 year old son. We leave our dogs at home in the Smokies.

I've never OC'd except once or twice in my office. No one's ever said a word about it accept a client who told me it was a good idea based on some of my other clients. It was a civil client, nice guy, then he patted his coat and said "you can't be too careful these days". The only other time I've thought about OC would be for convenience when I'm hiking in the Smokies. With CC, I'm limited to a pocket gun because I wear my kid in a backpack so I can't do anything on the belt. I won't OC anytime soon though because the signs haven't been updated since the new law became effective. As long as the old signs are up, I won't OC because I don't want any misunderstandings.

The reasons you stated are the reasons I stick with 9mm. For me slightly better "knockdown power" isn't worth the difference in ammo cost and availability. First, with modern JHP, I think the differences in effectiveness are exagerated. More importantly, a bigger hole doesn't help if you don't hit the target, and you're more likley to hit the target if you're practicing twice as much. I'm not putting down the .45 caliber at all, but I prefer 9mm as a primary carry caliber.

This entire post reminds me of how unsophisticated I am. With my plastic 9mms and all...
-
+1. I have an LCP and a G26 but I almost always carry the 26 for the reasons stated above. I don't consider the LCP a primary carry gun. It is great however, for those instances when your clothing might not otherwise let you carry concealed.
-
+1. I bought one for my G19 but it also works for my G26. Very comfortable. Very concealable.

I say let the shooter practice on a bigger gun and then work up (or down) to the PF-9. If possible, I'd start with a Glock 17 or a full-size M&P.

Fiocchi Ammo; is it a deal or what?
JReedEsq replied to JReedEsq's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
That sounds like an even better deal. This stuff works great for me and its seems like a great way to fire the Hornady XTP projectile at a great price. -

9mm. Price is 24-25 bucks per 50 depending on weight. -
I'm looking for opinions on Fiocchi JHP ammo. I've gone through a few boxes of their JHP that I bought from Midwayusa.com. It uses a Hornady XTP bullet, it's made in the USA (Missouri) and I can't figure out why it's such a good deal compared to Gold Dots, Golden Sabers and others. I currently have Gold Dots in one of my carry 9mms and Fiocchi in my others. Can anyone more experienced tell me why I should buy more Gold Dots (or Hornady's) instead of just getting this stuff and spending the extra money on Wally-World practice ammo?
