  1. That's right I've never owned one and never fired one. I can only speak from my personal experience with a very similiar gun that I own that has been flawless. We all have our own choices to make and can speak from our own personal experiences. I just can't seem to understand why anyone would get a self-defense gun that is so questionable (to put it mildly). I'd welcome the moderators to delete my posts if I was out of turn suggesting another gun on a DB380 thread. I believe that the purpose of the thread was to find out if anyone has gotten these guns to work right or if there are still problems being reported. My post was to indicate that I believe problems are still being reported and that I believe their are more reliable options available. I'm not sure how that's off topic.
  2. Respectfully, that is not the problem at all. Problem is that you bought the wrong gun. Get an LCP. There are a ton of them out there and I think Ruger has gotten the bugs worked out by now.
  3. For what it's worth the OD part of my G26's frame is worn more one side than the other. I'm not sure why but it's the left side of the gun, the side that's been up against the leather when it's in my Crossbreed Supertuck. Maybe leather wears more? All I know is that Kydex is the only material I feel safe with in a pocket holster. I'm really more concerned with good safe fit on the weapon than I am about having a perfect finish.
  4. I had it done in 2004. It is awesome. I have dry eyes sometimes, but not nearly as bad as I had with contact lenses. BTW, my eyes were 20/200 and 20/240.
  5. Self defense in a nutshell!
  6. Brandishing a gun is never a "simple" assault because, by definition, you're using a deadly weapon. Using a deadly weapon is an aggravating factor.
  7. I've bought 2 pocket holsters from this guy (G26 and LCP). Very nicely fitted and shaped to minimize printing.
  8. I have Mepros on 2 Glocks and Factory NS on another. The Meps feel slightly more substantial/durable but I really have no complaints with the Glock factory sites and they are a better value.
  9. Only use a holster that is molded for a Glock and you should be fine. Also, you can never reholster a gun too slowly.
  10. OS is correct. I'm not an open carry fan myself, but I am glad to have the option. Particularly, since I haven't found a way to CC a full-size pistol while wearing a loaded backpack with a waist stabilizer.
  11. This is an obvious case of, "just because you might have a legal justification to do something, doesn't mean you should." I don't know of any situation where I'd unholster unless the threat is directed at myself or an immediate family member. Sorry, the rest of you guys are on your own. Notice I said an immediate family member. I'm related to lots of folks that can fend for themselves.
  12. http://www.michie.com/tennessee/lpext.dll?f=templates&fn=main-h.htm&cp=tncode T.C.A. 39-17-1311 Subsection ((1)(H) lists HCP holders as a specific exception. Subsection (e)(1) states they don't have to change any signage until it's worn out. Subsection (e)(2) says local municipalities can opt out if they post prominately displayed signage. Clear as mud, huh?
  13. +1 to Leroy's wisdom on the .22. I bought an Advantage Arms conversion kit for my G17 which means I shoot a lot more often and the extra trigger time has helped. It's just like having a .22 Glock to practice with.
  14. I have a G26 and in my opinion it's not really a mouse gun. My LCP is my mouse gun and the G26 is my smallest real gun. Keep practicing with it and it will come. I shoot mine as well as my bigger Glocks at short range, it just requires a slight bit of extra time in between shots. Unfortunately, my LCP is a different story, it want's to jump out of my hand and all my other shooting is with my Glocks so the long trigger pull is annoying. I plan to practice with it a little more now that .380 is getting cheaper.
  15. I don't see it happening, and quite frankly I wouldn't agree if it did. I've never seen anyone prosecuted for making a threat on behalf of a third party unless the third party is present and conducting themselves in a way that puts others in fear. What if this guy's wife is a hot-head and he's got no intention of harming anyone? Maybe he needs to keep his guns out of her reach, but I don't think we need the courts involved and I don't think there would be any basis for a revocation of his HCP.

    Short List

Shooting regularly is new for me too. In the past year I've acquired a Glock 19, Glock 26, Glock 17 (4th Gen) with an Advantage Arms .22 conversion kit, a Ruger LCP, and a Remington 870 Police with KNOXX stock. I'm not planning any new purchases soon but...I'd be totally done I'd I had: 1. Glock 20SF with a .40 conversion barrel. (Or maybe a Glock 31. 2. 4" Smith + Wesson 586 .357 Stainless. (Or a Ruger GP100). 3. A 556 AR-15 with a .22 conversion upper See that's just 3 guns... Perfectly reasonable right? The Glock is because I admire simplicity and reliability above all else. And because I'm getting used to the reset of the Glock trigger. The revolver is so we'd have a simple handgun in the house for my wife to use in emergency. The AR is on the list just because.
  17. +1, Too many guns out there that are reliable out of the box for me to bother with guns that require a "break-in". Maybe I'm just impatient.
  18. +1; I've bought 5 handguns in the last year but I keep going back to the G19.
  19. I wouldn't carry any gun that required that much tinkering to work. Since a .380 is definitely not a range gun I don't see the point. It's not my favorite gun, but my LCP has been completely reliable.
  20. I try not to get too judgmental about these things. I have quite a bit of ink, but when I look like a very clean cut guy when I'm dressed for work or church. My wife finds it very ironic that I have to wear long sleeves to look clean cut, yet I can't stand dreadlocks or long hair that looks greasy or dirty.
  21. Ride alongs were available here in Knoxville when I was in Law School at UT. I'm often on a different side of things than the LEOs but anyone who works in the legal system gets a whole new perspective on the world.
  22. Better watch that AK really closely Jeff. It's on the terror list you know. My neighbors (who know I have guns) keep telling me how bad it is that my other neighbor has an AK-47. Somehow any AK seems really scary to non-gun people. BTW, the dog is doing great at my house.
  23. I have the Advantage Arms kit. It works great and is lots of fun.
  24. Thanks but I'm not hunting. I just love to be in the woods. I carry for defense of me and mine, and it surprised me a little that ballistics101.com was recommending fmj for carry regardless of caliber. I started the thread just to see if anyone agreed with them. For now I think I'll stick with XTPs for hiking since they may penetrate a little better than the Gold Dots which are the other JHP sitting in my safe. I've been dragging my two year old and my pregnant wife on long hikes nearly every weekend. I've always been an active person, and I don't see why I should sit at home just because we have a family now. We got to see 2 bears the weekend of the 4th, but we were on a popular trail so we kept moving. As I told my wife, I'm not afraid of the bears at all, it's just that I don't trust other people not to provoke them or feed them. Lately, we've been migrating to the less populated trails, so hopefully we won't run into any of the bears that expect to be fed or have developed any other bad habits from too much human interaction. I'm really not too concerned about the bears. If I were, I would carry something more than a 9mm. I am well aware, however that with a pregnant wife and a 2-year-old on my back, none of us are in any position to run away from any type of threat very quickly. Thanks for your responses guys.
  25. My question was really just "if you were hiking/camping would you put fmj in your regular carry gun." I am not starting a caliber war but I just don't think a .45 would be any better than my 9mm. I might eventually get a G20SF, but until then I'll stick with a G17 with a +2 extension for 20 rounds of 9mm. 9mm may (should) penetrate better than a .45, I'll have more rounds, and most importantly it's what I shoot regularly. I told the wife that all the hiking could be an excuse to get a 10mm or a .357 revolver, but a .357 would get pretty heavy and I really think I'm better off with something I've practiced with. My thinking is that we're more likely to have problems with wild dog or other smaller animal and ballistically superiority wouldn't accomplish anything in the event I miss.
