First off, I prefer not to give legal advice in response to broad questions. It only increases the potential for error. An example would be the statement above that it is impossible to separate maritial assets from presonal property. That is the general rule but there are notable exceptions. That said, while an agressors family may sue you, Tennessee law should protect your assets if you've acted in reasonable self defense. Frankly I'd more concerned with someone being able to say, "look, he attempted to hide his assets because he planned to shoot someone."

Nice build. Please post back in awhile to let us know how that inexpensive optic holds up.

Thoughts on best complete upper...

I've not had it long but I'm pretty happy with my Rock River Arms CAR UTE2. -
If you plan to shoot often the "no surplus" and "no steel" ammo retrictions will quickly eat into your savings over an entry level AR. Personally, If I wanted a .223 but not an AR, I'd just get a Police trade-in Mini 14 from Buds.

G19. First one I bought. I've shot it the most. All the reasons you've stated above.

The G19/G26 combo is my favorite as well. Occasionally I carry a G22, but lately the G19 seems the best all around compromise for me. Carry whatever you are comfortable with.

I'd be willing to try out a Charter if the 9mm snubby actually materialized. I love the idea of a 9mm snub, but I won't pay a premium collector price that the Smiths demand.

I didn't mention that I've shot a wide variety of ammo through all my Glocks from hot to the cheapest (sometimes weak), in all four of my pistols (including my Gen 4). I have a G17, G19, G22, and G26. They all will shoot anything I put in them. If it's not a mag issue, I'd ask if they can send a new recoil assembly. Either way, there should be an easy solution that should get it running reliably on any kind of ammo.

Sounds odd to me. My G19 has several hundred rounds through it and has never malfunctioned except with intentional limp-wristing, and even then, only on the last round of the magazine. My Gen 4 G17 was an early lodel with the same recoil spring as then Gen 4 G22s and it made odd noises until I called them and asked them to ship me the lighter recoil spring. It never actually malfunctioned at all but they still took care of it. Definitely call Glock tech support and they will make it right.

Uh Oh; .380 and penetration in the same thread. I hope this doesn't result in name calling....

+1; OS is right....They are no longer applicable under Federal law which supercedes state law. My only occasion to open carry is in the park and I even had a nice conversation with a ranger who didn't even mention my weapon. I've done a lot of hiking this year, and unfortunately there are still signs up at nearly every trailhead in the GSMNP. I'd like to see them come down because I don't want any misunderstandings with the ill-informed among us.

There, I fixed it for you. Seriously, I have a 17 too, but it never gets carried. I have a 19, 17, 22, and 26. Lately the 19 is the one I carry the most.

Precisely why my "woods gun" is a Glock 22. A .44 or even a .357 may have better terminal ballistics, but they are much harder to carry and my practice time with my EDC Glocks (19 & 26) wouldn't translate well. In the heat of the moment, I want my carry gun to feel as familiar as possible.

I have a Pathfinder which is basically the big brother to the Xterra. My previous vehicle was a completely loaded H6 LL Bean Subaru Outback and I've had Toyotas and Hondas too. You're correct that the fit and finish of some Nissans isn't as good as some of the other Japanese makes. I don't think, however, that this is any reflection on the quality of the powertrains (engine, transmission etc...). I drove a Maxima to 180K trouble-free miles and both my cousin and another good friend put a ton of miles Xterras. In comparison, My Subie started having issues before 90K. My cousin and I bought new Pathfinders about the same time without discussing it with each other, neither of us have accumulated enough miles to say if they will be as good as previous Nissans. Anyway, I wouldn't count out Nissans unless you want a luxury car interior. They make lack refinement but they can be rugged and dependable. Personally, I like their styling, I think they have more cargo space than a lot of their competitors and a lot of them are made in Tennessee. They also use the same V6 in nearly all their cars (it's tried and true) and they do repectably off-road. If you're looking for a rock-crawler, I'd stick to the Jeeps, but I've actually taken my Pathfinder off-road and it does pretty well for a stock vehicle.

Much like having an HCP grants us an exception to the "Intent to go armed" statute, self-defense would be an exception to the prohibition on shooting in the national parks.

Sounds like a great way to serve your church community. Good luck! -
Relax. No one said that your gun is a POS, just that the real thing doesn't cost that much more. Isn't it wonderful that there are lots of different guns and we don't all have to buy the same thing?
-
That's a great answer, but with used 870 express models available so cheaply, the appeal of the knock-offs is lost on me. I think a small premium is worth it to be able to interchange barrels with the real thing. Used 870 barrels are easy to find.

Why buy a chinese made ripoff when you can get a police trade-in on the real thing?

My wife and I researched the anti-soy theory extensively when she was pregnant with our son. She has a milk allergy and we were concerned that my son may inherit it. We couldn't find any credible evidence that soy is harmful. It turns out he doesn't have the allergy, so he's on regular milk, but we talked to multiple physicians and while there is a lot of anti-soy noise, we are convinced it is perfectly safe.

I've also found local stores that have made me very good deals. I prefer to buy local, but I'm also not afraid to shop them against each other and ask them to price match...

This is precisely why I've still been carrying just a Glock. For me, I think a 10mm Glock would be best, but I prefer to stick with calibers that are readily available, so my .40 is it for now. IMHO I think the Black Bears we have in the smokies generally aren't agressive and sealing up all your food in zip-locks is generally the first line of defense.
-
Again, I agree that shot placement far outweighs caliber. but we shouldn't overlook the fact that most people shoot compact and full-size guns a lot more accurately than .38 snubbies and sub-compact pocket pistols.
