I've got no experience with them but these look to be a great deal: S&W SD9 9mm 4" 16RD TNS Black $367.00 SHIPS FREE I really like the idea of a front night sight at this price point. I've not read any bad reviews.

Goal one would point you toward the G21SF and goal two would point you toward a 1911. Here's a compromise between the two: used Sig Sauer P220 .45 $539.00 SHIPS FREE

I actually adopted my Boxer from TGO a little less than a year ago. He is gentle as a lamb with my 2-year-old but suspicious of strangers. The biggest issues we've had are that he created a little incident with some neighbors when knocked over a neighbor's dog who got too close to my son's stroller, and he really had to be trained not to jump at kids. Overall though, we couldn't be happier with him.

Plus one on adopting an adult dog. Sooo much less work that way.

+1; you really should go back and read some old threads about the potential problems of open carry in the wrong circumstances.
-
+1; I'm partial to the Glock 19, but it can't hurt to try the big three. The LCP is OK, but if I could only have one gun, I would definitely stick with 9mm.
-
Since you're a new shooter, I'd suggest shooting both the 9mm and .40 versions of both the Glock and Walthers before buying either. You'll find the .40 has quite a sharp recoil in a lightweight gun. I've not tried the Walthers, and I've got nothing against .40s (I own one), but I prefer the Glock 26 (9mm) to the 27.

I really shouldn't get worked up over these things either, but here's the thing: I'm the first to admit I've only been into guns and shooting for the last few years and I like to use these forums to actually learn something when I can. I recognize good natured teasing when I see it and I can clearly see your intent was to state your personal preference with a little bit of good natured teasing tossed in for fun. Sometimes, however, it gets a little annoying to wade through a lot of BS (that often perpetuates a lot of nonsense) just to get some substantive information about the basis of someone's personal preference.

I have two 5.11 tactical belts and one custom belt from Gregintenn. Greg's is nicer and gives the impression that it will hold up well in the future. I'm wearing it right now. No complaints whatsoever...

Now this is a real criticism. Seriously, you prefer the DA/SA and you don't like Glock ergos. Valid points. Sorry I had to vent about the other posting but if I started saying all HK owners were facists I'm sure a moderator would eventually get around to deleting my posts as BS...
-
I'm sorry for sounding antagonistic but the "you'll shoot yourself in the a$$" posts are about the stupidist waste of space on all the interweb. If you don't like Glocks because they are plastic that's fine. If you don't like the ergos that's fine too. If you don't like them because they are not American, that's fine. Everyone has personal preferences but the whole "Glock butt" thing is really just a pile of . *Edit- The whole I don't like your gun so it means you'll shoot yourself in the a$$ is akin to saying I don't like Mustangs so that obviously means you will wreck yours... No independent rear suspension and all...

Looks good Greg! BTW, the belt is working out great.

I'm a shade under 6" and less than 160lb. I've got a G17 on right now. In the winter with a sweater, jacket, sweatshirt, you can easily conceal a full-size gun if you try. Since your carry gun is so reliable (no bias here) I'd vote you get a full-size which ever way you go. It may not be as light, but it will be superior for home-defense and range use and can still be a back-up carry option.
-
Actually, to get the thread back on topic, I was trying to make the point that OC vs CC is just a personal preference. But I'm not opposed to a good arguement every now and then.
-
Oh yeah, I forgot one... No real driving enthusiast chooses an automatic transmission...
-
Aside from any "tactical" advantage, most people don't want to deal with the hassle and attention of OC. I certainly don't. I carry for self-defense and not to make a political statement. That said, I really have no objection to people who OC in appropriate circumstances (not at the bank etc...), and I have done so in very limited circumstances such as hiking in backwoods areas or around my own home/office. As for all the other debates: Glocks are better than 1911s, ARs are better than AKs, 9mms are better than .45s and Coke is better than Pepsi. I just saved you a lot of time. You can thank me later.

I think my G19 is plenty of fun on the range. I started with it and the only problem is I just can't seem to get past Glocks. I've got four of them now and I keep thinking I should have something else to make things more interesting... If I were to buy something just to shoot I'd probably get a 9mm 1911, or a Browning Hipower etc... Since I don't get to shoot as often as I'd like, however, I try to focus on honing my defensive skills with my tool of choice and that just happens to be the Glocks. I'm of the opinion that "my gun is a defensive tool." I've chosen Glocks, but I'm sure their are other great guns out there. I'd probably get at least 3 Smith and Wesson M&Ps if I got rid of the Glocks. I'd have to have a full-size, a compact, and the .22LR version.

I deal with lots of drug addicts, mentally unstable people, and ocassionally violent offenders in my work. I've been to some of their homes an ocassionally I represent the folks who are taking their children away from them. I used to laugh off threats or intimidation at first, but I take them more seriously now that I have a family. Sometimes even your run-of the-mill divorce can get pretty ugly. I had one incident in particular with a former client that I can't go into on a public forum. My wife who was formerly anti-gun (and still won't touch one), actually urged me to get my permit. Around the time I got my permit, I realized that there are lots of lawyers carrying, but many never speak of it. A collegue of mine recently told me about a tragic event in another state. Her relative, also a lawyer, was invovled in a case as a court appointed guardian for a child in a civil abuse/neglect case. Basically his job was to investigate a little and side with either the the petitioner (relative or the state through the department of children's services) or the respondent (alleged negligent or abusive parent) and make a recommedation to the Judge. My private-pay clients have really increased, so I don't do as much court appointed work as I used to, but I have done many more of those cases than I can remember. Anyway, the lawyer goes to court, makes his recommendation and gets shot several times in his office soon after.. He was fortunate to survive and suffers from paralysis. As I said, I was already carrying when this happened, but that incident and others keep me armed and remind me I need to make time to do some more training.

I looked closely at a PPS just last week at Bill's Outpost. Other than the mag release, I really liked it. I don't think I'd sell my G26 for it, but if I certianly wouldn't turn my nose up at one.
-
How about a trigger with a more positive reset, better reliability and less sentivity to ammo variances? That enough? BTW, I'm quite sure it's possible to shoot yourself in the butt with any of the manufacturers you mentioned.

I haven't been backcountry hiking but I've carried while wearing my son in a large pack. Used a thigh rig for up to 9 miles. Chafing was not that bad.

I think their .380 is actually the same size as the G26 and the G27. It is basically for countries that would let citizens have "military" calibers like the 9mm and up. It wouldn't make sense for the American market unless they made a single stack version since the G26 of identical proportions is very "shootable". *Edit: And if they were to do a single stack it should be 9mm.. Just because
