I haven't found any ammo that my Gen 4 17 won't fire, feed and eject. I bought it new when the Gen 4s were first released.

G26. Less recoil, more rounds, magazine compatibility, and still plenty small enough.

SUV vs 4-door truck with a camper air conditioning
JReedEsq replied to JReedEsq's topic in General Chat
I hear that... Still, We fit 10 bikes, 2 cars, a mower, weed eater, chainsaw, Lots of camping gear and backpacking gear in our garage. It is deaper on the side my wife parks, but that space is accounted for... Eventually we may have an additional bay added but it will have to be pretty custom to fit our lot and our HOA requirements. Eric, I agree on the mid-size vs full-size truck debate. The Tacoma and the new Chevrolet Colorado seem way overpriced to me.. -
SUV vs 4-door truck with a camper air conditioning

Even if I get rid of a wall of shelving, and a good bike hanging spot, I would not be able to fit a vehicle much over 200 inches... -
SUV vs 4-door truck with a camper air conditioning
JReedEsq replied to JReedEsq's topic in General Chat
Right but I can't fold the seats up and take the kids... I agree with the comments about the small 3rd row seats. I can't remember when the 3rd row was folded up on my Pathfinder. I do need to use a 2nd row, however, and carry my dogs at the same time... -
SUV vs 4-door truck with a camper air conditioning
JReedEsq replied to JReedEsq's topic in General Chat
You are looking at the 2-door, I am looking at the 4-door... I like the Silverado, F150 and the Tundra, I just don't know if I like them enough to forgo parking in the garage. -
Has anyone switched back and forth between an SUV and a similar sized 4-door truck with a camper. I am specifically interested in your thoughts between the formats more than the make/model. If you have switched from a Tahoe to a 4-door Silverado or from a 4Runner to a Tacoma that's perfect. I am weighing the pros and cons the format before I nail down make/model for my next vehicle. I probably won't purchase for a while but I like to research these things to death and although I currently drive a mid-sized truck based SUV, I am considering a 4-door truck with a shell for my next vehicle to have more cargo room. We take our two kids bike riding often are planning to start camping more again this spring. Because my wife prefers to keep her car clean mine is always the one we drive for camping/hiking/muddy bike riding, and driving our dogs around. We have 2 kids and 2 dogs (boxers). The pros to the truck would be a little more space but the downsides I am concerned about are: 1) I can't get one in my garage unless I get a Tacoma with a bed so short that it might as well be a 4Runner. I do like parking in the garage and based on my measurements I think I could squeeze in a Tahoe or Landcruiser. 2) No air-conditioning for my dogs without a complicated setup. Boxers don't do well in hot weather. I am not really considering any car-based crossovers, because I occasionally use the 4wd and we could end up getting a small camper and I'd rather tow with a truck chassis vs a minivan chassis. I currently drive a 2006 Pathfinder (the ones that were truck based) that is still running fine so I am not in a hurry. The newer 4Runners are pretty much exactly the same size as my old truck-based Pathfinder. I like the new 4Runners but they have almost exactly the same amount of space as my Pathfinder. If my next vehicle isn't going to have more space for trips etc.. I might as well just keep driving the Pathfinder. It works find for us most of the time, but when we travel we feel pretty maxed out. We have to use the largest Thule roof rack box for stuff, two bikes on the roof, two bikes in the back, and our boxer takes up a lot of the rear cargo space. In addition to our 7.5 year old boxer, we now have a boxer puppy so now I am really thinking things could be tight. Several times a year we do trips when I feel like we would be a lot more comfortable in an F150/Silverado/Tundra with a shell, but I waiver on giving up the day-to-day convenience of parking in the garage. Your thoughts???

My wife's 42 had to be sent back because it was too ammo sensitive and would lock back with rounds in the magazine. It works fine now. They replaced both magazines when they sent it back. I have several other Glocks and the only other issue I had was a really old G22 magazine that I found in a bargain bin somewhere. It wouldn't work 100% with a light on the pistol. I read online somewhere that this was a known problem experienced by some law enforcement agencies and addressed with the change to the gen 4 models. My gen3 was 100% with the old magazine without the light or with the light and the mags it came with. It is an RTF with the gills to give you an idea of the age of those mags. Anyway, I threw out the old magazine just to avoid getting it mixed up with the newer ones. I shoot and carry 9mm Glocks most of the time. I have never had a bad 9mm magazine out of several pistols, lots of spare mags and a few that have been dropped in the dirt quite a bit...

An awesome thing about the sport combat is that it is ambidextrous. If you ever have an injured strong-hand, you have a weak-hand holster ready. They always hold the weapon securely, but if the draw seems to difficult at first, spray a little armor all on the inside.

I like my Fury holster and the Glock sport combat. Tried a Desantis Leather OWB, hated it. Tried a Crossbreed Snapside because I like my Supertuck so much but it didn't seem to pull in as tight as the Glock sport combat. I recommended the sport combat too, but I like my Fury just a little more because it is a little more concealable. It rides just a bit higher and has more cant. Dollar for dollar, you won't beat the ugly Glock holster though.

Had a big scare the other day that forced me to make some changes
JReedEsq replied to mav's topic in General Chat
In addition to an alarm, A dog would a great idea too. Any alert dog is great but a large, alert dog is even better. Our boxer is great because he doesn't bark so frequently that we ignore it. Generally if he is barking there is a person, animal or vehicle outside that is out of the ordinary. -
The ones you like.

While this is a sad, sad story, I am always amazed at the lengths people will go to to prove their point over something of little or no value. Just this morning I was about to parallel park in a meter spot in downtown Knoxville when a lady was yelling at me (so I could hear with my window up I suppose), that the meter in front of her was broken so she intended to back into the space I was attempting to park in. She wanted to make very clear to me that she was there first (although parking in a different space) and since the first meter she tried didn't work she was therefore entitled to take the space I was about to park in. I am able bodied and have more to worry about in life than a parking space, so I drove off and (as I was already partially in the spot) and found another place to park.

I would call or email Glock customer support.

I tried one and didn't like it. I hit it a few times with my thumb, preventing the slide from locking back on empty. They are cheap and easy to install, but if you aren't sure, I would leave your pistol alone.

Any kydex holster makers out there?
JReedEsq replied to Pain103's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I have a Fury holster and am very satisfied with it. -
Update: Took the pistol to the range today. It ran perfect. Tried WWB, Remington UMC, Silver Bear, Freedom Munitions fmj, and Freedom Munitions loaded with the Hornady XTP bullet. Everything cycled fine and my wife's groups are getting smaller too. I was not happy to have to send the gun in, but it seems like it is good to go now and the turn around time was really fast.

Looks like we have a test subject on carrying past sign.
JReedEsq replied to Pain103's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Absolutely. Aside from the legal issue, this is a personal responsibility problem and a problem with off-body carry. Knowing the kind of people that they deal with on a regular basis, I am not surprised to see someone working with DCS carrying but this was beyond irresponsible. To me this is really an issue of poor judgment more than a firearms or 2nd Amendment issue. I guarantee that there are kids in and out of that DCS office who have been removed from and/or exposed to some really bad situations that could lead to poor decision-making ability to say the least.... -
I had one of these for a while: http://media.midwayusa.com/productimages/880x660/Primary/797/797312.jpg http://www.midwayusa.com/product/957173453/galco-fletch-belt-holster-glock-17-22-31-leather It was definitely a quality product and I was surprised how naturally it was to release the thumb-break while drawing. I don't OC so I didn't hang on to it since none of my other holsters have any sort of retention (except a quality fit). I am not sure why I even bought the thing except that I wanted to try it. I am pretty much an all kydex guy these days but I will admit that leather does look better. If I were so inclined to OC I wouldn't hesitate to pick up another thumb-break holster as I found it simple, manageable solution and I do think the thumb-break would make a "gun-grab" a little more difficult.

I have a 22 with the fish gills. I like the fit in hand just a tiny bit better than my gen 4 17 or 19. I carried it hiking just last week. I don't find the texture to be too abrasive at all. To me, the finger grooves feel less pronounced on the RTF models. It carries well OWB and I don't have any issues with rubbing. Then again at 6' and 160lbs, I don't know anything about "love handles." I really like the texture and don't find it hard on my hands or skin. The only issue I have had is it will snag a jacket or blazer if you wear it with dress clothes. I have gotten up from a table at restaurants and had my jacket pulled up before. The gen 4 texture doesn't do this for me.

Update: FedEx just dropped the pistol back off at my office. I shipped it to them with the pistol and magazines only. They sent it back with a Glock tupperware box, complete with cleaning brush etc.. According to the invoice they replaced both magazines, the slide stop, the trigger bar, trigger housing and ejector. I will report back once we can get it to the range.
