  1. Gordon, Having just met you and your wife a few weeks ago, my heart sank like a brick when I first saw this thread. As a parent of two small kids I can't imagine what your family is dealing with right now. You will be in my prayers.... David, That's the best post I've seen since I've been on TGO.
  2. I think someone posted this link before. I hope I never see it again. I'm pretty satisfied with our current house. This sort of thing makes me really want a custom house with a couple of these things.
  3. The grandfather of a good friend of mine was a retired police officer and I believe department armorer for either the Knox County Sheriff's Department or the KPD. He had a few "hidden" closets similar to what you are considering. When he passed away the family spent a significant amount of time searching the house and actually turned up a few more. From what I understand, his handiwork was good enough that if he hadn't shown one of the "safes" to a few family members, the house probably would have been sold with a few guns hidden in vaults between walls etc...
  4. I had one for a short while. Some people can shoot them accurately, I couldn't. Then again, I really, really hated the front sight on the thing. I sold it to a forum member who put up pics of an aftermarket sight on it. I could probably shoot it a little faster than a Glock 17, but, for me, the difference between my accuracy with the Sub 2k and a normal handgun just wasn't that much. I'm sure it would be much better for someone with eyes that pick up the site well.

  6. The consensus seems to be that they are "hit & miss", but it seems to me that all the pocket autos are hit and miss, even the Kahrs and Sigs that are pricey. I traded away my Ruger LCP because I didn't enjoy shooting it and I realized I can shoot a subcompact Glock much better and their are very few situations where I can't conceal a baby Glock. After it was gone I realized their are certain situations where a light, flat .380 is the only gun I can easily conceal. Unfortunately, I couldn't really find any of the small .380s that I like better. The only ones I would enjoy shooting would be the Sig P230 or the Walther PPK and those weigh nearly as much as my Glock 27. I've also been tempted by the Ruger LCR but, then again, I'm not sure how much I'd carry it since I like the one with the fat rubber grip so it would take up almost as much space in my pocket as my G27. Anyway, I ended up picking up a P3AT instead of another LCP since I found a deal on one with the parkerized slide. For some reason I think the trigger might be a little smoother than the LCP I had and I actually like the rough texture of the grip more than the grip on the LCP. They are ugly and I'm not sure I'd buy a KT for a primary carry. But, for me, it's good enough for an occasional carry.

    Gen4 G17

You got an incredibly good deal. My Gen 4 17 is one of my favorites.
  8. I haven't been mountain biking in, like, an hour. I really like my Yeti ASRc. It's always nice to see someone upgrade their rig.
  9. We've heard from FedEx and Volkswagen. I wonder if Nissan took a position.
  10. I've seen bears in that same area. Sounds like it's time for you to get some good bear spray. We carry the "Guard Alaska" brand.
  11. You did the right thing. I've got a 3-year-old and a 1-year-old and I definitely do not leave my guns accessible to them. My 3-year-old boy knows never to touch a gun and that guns are not for kids to play with. This past Christmas we were at a family members home who had an air rifle in their garage. Upon entering the home my son very loudly and sternly told a few people in my wife's extended family that there was a gun in the garage and that they weren't supposed to touch it. A cousin of hers tried to calm my son by telling him it's not a "real gun", to which I replied that if it shoots a projectile, it's a real gun. As Lostpass stated, the consequences are high. I've seen posts on here before with debates between training your kids about firearms or keeping guns locked up. I do both.
  12. All depends on what I'm wearing/where I'm going/ how concealed I want to be. I'm carrying a Glock 17 today because it's cold enough for a sport coat outside. I carry a baby Glock most of the time (often in a pocket holster) in the summer and a P3AT for excercising or situations where I really don't want to print.
  13. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that I think "they will make fun of you" means good-natured teasing. Shooting is still new to me but I've played sports and been involved in outdoor and competitive activities my entire life. Usually, when someone is "giving you sh*t" it's just their way of relating to you. I'm sure they'll gladly accept your money and train you if you bring a Sig, HK, M&P etc...I'm really speculating here but I think if your gun works, you'd be GTG.
  14. + Eleventy Billion! You would not believe how many times, I've seen Facebook accounts printed off and used in Court in one way or another.
  15. This will likely kill the premium on the OD Green 3rd Gen pistols. I like it.... Not enough to pay a premium for it, but I like it...
  16. I own 2 Gen 4s and love them. The 9mm 17 and 19 models were over-sprung initially but this has been fixed with a free recoil assembly that is a 5-second fix. He's right that Glock didn't fix the stock sights or trigger pull, but steel night sights are readily available on the aftermarket and a 3.5lb connector is super easy to install. What Glock got right on the 4th Gen is a better grip and a larger magazine release. IMHO, these are both great upgrades.
  17. A few times, I've tied a lightweight rain jacket around my waist in the parking lot, only to remove it once I'm on the trail. Please post it if you find a cheaper SafePacker. I considered one, but didn't want to spend that much on something I probably wouldn't use often. I have spent a lot on holsters in the last few years. I like to carry wherever legal, so it helps to have lots of options.
  18. Relax. I'm not going to spray anyone's dog on their property. I love dogs. I will not, however, put my life at risk riding on the wrong side of the road to avoid a dog. I also don't plan to have my calf knawed on again. FYI, I've been bitten by a small dog while riding. Although I was highly pi$$ed that the people didn't come to the door and apologize, I didn't sue. I did get the Sheriff's Dept to go out and have them produce vaccination records and that's the end of the story. I agree that it's way out of line for someone to spray your dog on your property. However, if your dog is acts threatening and leaves your yard, I very seriously doubt you'll ever get a cent from someone who takes defensive action.
  19. As a cyclist and a dog owner, I've got to ask you... Did the person pepper spray your dog on your property or in the road? I'd hate to see a dog that isn't posing a threat be pepper sprayed. But, then again, I hope you're not saying your dog has the right to chase someone down the road just because you happen to live in the country?
  20. I bought a thigh rig just for this purpose. I've sometimes tied a jacket or a long sleeve shirt around my waist in really crowded parking lots etc.. but once we're on the trail and no one's around I take it off. I can't remember the maker of the holster right now but I got a really good deal on it used. It was made in NC, it's kydex, and has an adapter plate to make it belt holster. As a thigh rig, it rides higher than most and I've actually found it to be comfortable for hikes up to 7-8 miles.
  21. Hornady Critical Defense also. I believe Hornady designs usually favor penetration over expansion. This seems to be a good idea for .380.
  22. I rarely OC, but I've OC'd at Frozen Head and in the GSMNP because I was carrying a child in a backpack without a good way to conceal a full-size. No one ever said a word, including rangers at both parks. On the rare occasion I OC, I make an extra effort to be polite and friendly to every one I meet. That seems to work for me.
  23. This is absolutely true. I've pocket carried a baby Glock lots of places and my experience is that no one is concerned about something in your pockets. Also, a good pocket holster will have a hooked area which can keep it in the pocket on the draw and help to conceal the print. I also have a P3AT for those days when I'm wearing really light shorts or something. I am much more proficient with a Glock, however, so that's what I carry much more often.
