Official "What are you carrying today?" Thread
lock n' load replied to TGO David's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Since I only have one gun at the moment, my carry options are limited. Right now I am carrying a Glock 23 in an Galco Summer Comfort IWB holster. Hopefully in the future, I would like to carry a Kimber or Kahr. -
I am a Bama fan and am glad they got the win, however, they didn't play all that great. I really HATE to say this but, the Vols put up an excellent fight and by all means should have won that game. "Mount Cody" really saved their skin with the two FG blocks in the last quarter. The way Bama has had to "kick" their way to victory the last two games is kinda crappy but I am glad Tiffin is an accurate kicker. The defense on both teams was great which resulted in a low-scoring game. One can never assume complete victory regardless of who you like when these two teams meet. I bet Saban will be reaming some people out after they get to the locker room. I'm glad Bama won but am dissapointed by how they played.

I personally use Shooter's Choice grease. It comes in a handy syringe-type applicator which makes it mess-free pretty much. I just run a small bead down the four slide rails on the frame and rack the slide serveral times and wipe off the excess and it works pretty good. Just my .02.

I have been looking at purchasing a set of XS sights for my Glock 23 in distant future. From what I have read by users of these sights and watching the videos on their website, they look like pretty good sights. The sights come with everything you need to remove the old sights and install the new ones. Does anyone have these sights installed on their guns and if so, are they worth the hype?

I carry a Glock 23. I like it for its size, simplicity and ease of maintainance. I have never had a problem with FTF's while at the range. When I pull the trigger, it goes BANG every time. I just hope that if I ever have a FTF, it will be at the range and not at the worst possbile moment. At some point, when my finances allow me to, I would like to get a .44 magnum (Colt Anaconda or S&W 629). I wouldn't buy it for CC, I would just like to have one because they are beautiful guns.

I just wanted to get feedback for a "very weird" question. Let's say I am in a public place and am forced to defend myself or others from a bad guy who could kill myself or others. I draw my weapon and fire and nothing happens. I have read on some sites that if one has a round that fails to fire, (my gun is a semi-automatic) they should "tap" the magazine, re-rack the slide, and fire again. I am wondering that if that round that I just ejected happens to be a "hang-fire" round that if some point will probably fire and could possilbly hit an innocent person because it is just laying on the ground in God knows which direction, considering I am concentrated on stopping the threat, could the liablity ultimately be placed on the manufacturer? I know that my first prority is to be concentrated on stopping the threat. I am very sure that the BG will NOT give me up to 30 seconds to see if the round will fire (lol). However, I also know that every bullet that leaves my gun is my responsiblity and that "every bullet that leaves my gun has a lawyer attached to it". However, if the round that failed to fire initially due to let's say a hang-fire, would that responsibility still lie with me since I didn't manufacture the ammunition? I know this question is WAY out there in "left field" but at the same time, I would hate to feel responsible for someone else's "defect" in which I had no control over. Once agan, a very silly question but it seems I have the worst of luck sometimes and just wanted to know if I would have any other recourse for such an unintentional and uncontrollable malfunction. BTW, I keep my gun cleaned and carry 155 gr. Speer Gold Dots for personal protection which seem to get good reviews.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction on the state codes, I will give them a look. I guess my question kinda falls into somewhat of a grey area of the law. I sometimes ponder on the unusual "what if" scenarios too much with the uncertainty that, if presented with such a situation, I would hope that I would be on the right side of the law if I were forced to respond. I guess I tend to overcomplicate things. I always strive to avoid any kind of trouble at all costs. Even though I possess a HCP, I still strive to steer clear from any parts of town, people, times of day etc, that would be a potential problem.

Hello. Welcome to the TGO

Thanks for the feedback on this question everyone. The code that I quoted in my original post "Tennessee Code Annotated Section 39-11-1603(33)" was found on page 9 of the booklet I recieved when I took my HCP class this past May at Carter Shooting Supply. I tried to search for that exact code myself but couldn't find it online anywhere. Is there a place online one can research Tennessee state codes? I am not sure if the code was misprinted when the booket was made or if it is an old state code. Page 9 of my booklet also gives a partial definition to another code 39-11-602 which defines the term "deadly force". Since I am not well versed on state codes, I assumed what was printed was correct. If anyone has taken their HCP class from Carter's recently, check and see if you may have the same legal definitions as I do on page 9.

I am curious, what would constitute disparity of force? Let's say I am leaving Wal-Mart, walking to my vehicle in the parking lot and some thugs (2 or more indivduals without weapons present at the moment) approach me and want to start trouble (fighing, robbery etc). Is the option of disparity of force valid for that situation? I don't want take a chance and draw my weapon only to find out that it was not justifiable. I have read that in order for deadly force to be justified, One of five of the following conditions must be met. They are according to T.C.A 39-11-1603 (33): 1. substantial risk of death 2. protracted unconsciousness 3. extreme physical pain 4. protracted or obvious disfiguement 5. protracted loss or sustantial impairment of a function of a bodliy member, organ, or mental faculty. This would apply only to me drawing my weapon, not firing. This seems kind of silly but I would like any feedback if I would be in the right? Thanks.

"Gun-Free Zone" liabilty law
lock n' load replied to lock n' load's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Thanks for the feedback everyone. I guess either I carry and hope I don't get caught or just shop at my own risk. I hope that maybe someday business/propery owners might realize that people with HCP's are not looking for a reason to shoot, they only carry to protect themselves (and others providing they use extreme discretion on the situation). I hope and pray I never have to find out. -

I chose the Glock 23 for several reasons. 1. The price fit my budget. 2. The G-23 is used by several law enforcement agencies throughout the country. If it is good enough for them, it is good enough for me. 3. The reputation of Glock for its ruggedness, ease of maintainance and simplicity of use. 4. The Glock 23 can be concealed pretty well with the right holster/clothing.

I was wondering if Tennessee has ever looked at adopting a "Gun-Free Zone" liability law. From what I have read on the internet, Arizona and Georgia have tried to pass such legislation. I am not sure if it was eventually passed. The proposal would essentially place liability on property owners (malls, grocery stores, etc) who ban weapons on their propery even if the patron has an CCW/HCP and if that person was attacked, mugged, carjacked while on said property they could make the property owners liable for any criminal act commited against them due to the fact that they could not defend themselves because of the weapon ban. I am thinking of writing my representatives/legislators to try to consider such a bill if one is not already been suggested. Any input as to if this would ever fly?
