  1. I recently purchased an Uplula (Univeral Pistol Magazine Loader) by Butler Creek. I have read alot of positive reviews about it on Cabelas. What are other members thoughts about it?
  2. I haven't been on top of the latest changes of this bill that is trying to pass. But really what I am wondering is what good a law like this would even do for permit holders? If the bill does pass and it allows people with HCPs to carry in restaurants that serve alcohol only for there to be a provision for establishments to post an "no guns allowed" sign on their doors then what ground have we gained? It is almost like a catch-22 no matter which way you look at it. I believe that law-abiding citizens should be allowed to carry a firearm for protection and that it cannot be forced onto a person or business who does not want weapons on their property. Maybe there is something I am missing, but it seems to me that even if this bill is passed, we will still be limited to carrying guns to places we can already carry into now. I am sure the lawyers or insurance companies for the big restaurant chains like Applebees, Chilis, etc. would make sure that their businesses are posted with the correct signage if the bill passes into law. I am not sure about local non-francised businesses would be willing to follow suit but I guess if they absolutely did not want guns in their establishments, they would spend the time and money to make sure the signs on their doors were compliant with the law. Correct me if I am wrong (and I very well may be) but I just don't see how this bill or any bill for that matter will change anything from what we have now.
  3. Are the Shellmound campgrounds in Marion Co. posted?
  4. Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I will have to check those recommendations out. I would prefer a 3" or 4' barrel for concealment. I do love my Glock 23, but that first trigger pull is the only thing I don't like about it. I am sure it is a safety feature to prevent AD's. I am aware of the lighter mods available for Glocks (I believe it is the 3.5 or 3lb connector bars?). The 1911 is a beautifully made firearm. Wouldn't it be awesome if Glock made a 1911-style pistol (I know, I know it's a really wishful thinking) . I also have other guns on my wish list: Colt Anaconda .44 mag and an AR-15. I will have to start a new thread on those. Thanks!
  5. I was wondering is there a particular brand of 1911 style pistols that would be good for someone on a budget? I love my Glock but those Kimber ads in American Rifleman make my mouth water:drool:. As much as I like the Kimbers, it may be a while before I can afford one (even more so for the Les Baer's). I realize the old saying, "You get what you pay for" rings true for most things including guns. However, is there a decent 1911 style pistol that one could find for under $1,000?
  6. Welcome to the TGO from a fellow Chattanoogan
  7. Here is another HCP story posted from Newschannel 9 in Chattanooga. It seems that this guy wanted to make a spectacle of himself and ended up giving businesses another reason to bar people with HCP's. What is everyone's take on this? It reminds me of the thread I read on here about the incident with an HCP holder at a Costco's a while back if I am not mistaken. Just another reason to carry concealed if you ask me. Out of sight and out of mind. You may have to copy and paste this link in your browser to read the story. I am not too good at pasting links where you can just click on them and it redirects you to the site. 8. I also carry a Glock 23. My carry options depend on the weather and the type of clothing I may be wearing. If it is cold outside and I am wearing a baggy sweater and jacket, I will carry in my Blackhawk Serpa holster. In warmer weather or if I am not wearing a bulky sweater and jacket then I usually carry in a Galco Summer Comfort IWB holster.
  9. As a HCP holder, I agree with the majority of responses on the best way to handle 3rd party protection. I carry almost always all the time when I am not at work. I carry to protect myself primarily. Unless I am at work, my firearm is on me when I leave the house (especially at night). It is not worth the risk to lose your a$$ necessarily to protect others who chose not to do it themselves unless you are willing to lay it all on the line to be a "hero". With that said, if one watches some videos on TV such as "Most Shocking" and see bad guys doing horrible things to people and watching as the victim helplessly gives in to the bad guy's demands, only to see some of those victims fight back, it does bring a smile to my face to see the victim (or in some instances, a complete stranger) turn the tables on the aggressors. I am curious if the 3rd party was doing it for fear of what would happen to the other person OR if might be a case of vigilante justice. I wonder if anyone on here believes that some shootings to protect others might be a case of vigilante justice.
  10. What a night, what a year! After a very long wait, The Crimson Tide has finally found its way back to where it belongs. It was an awesome (at some points very nerve-wracking game). Texas put up a good game, especially the freshman quarterback. I have been waiting for this day for a LONG time. To all my Crimson Tide fans out there.....ROLL TIDE!!!
  11. Just wanted to say Merry Christmas to all TGO members. Hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday season.
  12. Maybe Jeff Woods needs to go join that ignorant, anti-gun ABC news staff. It's that same old "only bad people carry guns" mentality that makes me sick just like that episode on 20/20 "If I only had a gun". Apparently, this guy imagines he lives in a happy little world where the clouds are all puffy and everyone sings "Kumbaya". He must have watched too many episodes of "Barney and Friends" growing up. I wonder if he would feel the same way if his life were ever saved by a law-abiding HCP holder?
  13. I keep a round in the chamber in mine. At first, I was somewhat nervous by doing it since it has no manual safety. I was afraid that somehow the gun might AD but as time went on, I became more comfortable with carrying a round in the chamber. My holster completely covers the trigger guard so I have peace of mind knowing the gun will not go off unless I cause it to. I would recommend carrying a round in the pipe just because you may find yourself in a position where you could not rack the slide quick enough or if your non-shooting hand was injured, preventing you from using it to chamber a round. I try to practice drawing from concealment (unloaded) , placing emphasis on keeping my trigger finger along the frame as I draw. I am thinking of getting some snap caps to aid in my practice. That might also give confidence in having a "round in the chamber" without the fear of firing a live round if I were to slip-up and pull the trigger during my draw stroke while practicing. Just my .02.
  14. Since I only have one gun at the moment, my carry options are limited. Right now I am carrying a Glock 23 in an Galco Summer Comfort IWB holster. Hopefully in the future, I would like to carry a Kimber or Kahr.
  15. I am a Bama fan and am glad they got the win, however, they didn't play all that great. I really HATE to say this but, the Vols put up an excellent fight and by all means should have won that game. "Mount Cody" really saved their skin with the two FG blocks in the last quarter. The way Bama has had to "kick" their way to victory the last two games is kinda crappy but I am glad Tiffin is an accurate kicker. The defense on both teams was great which resulted in a low-scoring game. One can never assume complete victory regardless of who you like when these two teams meet. I bet Saban will be reaming some people out after they get to the locker room. I'm glad Bama won but am dissapointed by how they played.
  16. I personally use Shooter's Choice grease. It comes in a handy syringe-type applicator which makes it mess-free pretty much. I just run a small bead down the four slide rails on the frame and rack the slide serveral times and wipe off the excess and it works pretty good. Just my .02.
  17. I have been looking at purchasing a set of XS sights for my Glock 23 in distant future. From what I have read by users of these sights and watching the videos on their website, they look like pretty good sights. The sights come with everything you need to remove the old sights and install the new ones. Does anyone have these sights installed on their guns and if so, are they worth the hype?
  18. I carry a Glock 23. I like it for its size, simplicity and ease of maintainance. I have never had a problem with FTF's while at the range. When I pull the trigger, it goes BANG every time. I just hope that if I ever have a FTF, it will be at the range and not at the worst possbile moment. At some point, when my finances allow me to, I would like to get a .44 magnum (Colt Anaconda or S&W 629). I wouldn't buy it for CC, I would just like to have one because they are beautiful guns.
  19. I just wanted to get feedback for a "very weird" question. Let's say I am in a public place and am forced to defend myself or others from a bad guy who could kill myself or others. I draw my weapon and fire and nothing happens. I have read on some sites that if one has a round that fails to fire, (my gun is a semi-automatic) they should "tap" the magazine, re-rack the slide, and fire again. I am wondering that if that round that I just ejected happens to be a "hang-fire" round that if some point will probably fire and could possilbly hit an innocent person because it is just laying on the ground in God knows which direction, considering I am concentrated on stopping the threat, could the liablity ultimately be placed on the manufacturer? I know that my first prority is to be concentrated on stopping the threat. I am very sure that the BG will NOT give me up to 30 seconds to see if the round will fire (lol). However, I also know that every bullet that leaves my gun is my responsiblity and that "every bullet that leaves my gun has a lawyer attached to it". However, if the round that failed to fire initially due to let's say a hang-fire, would that responsibility still lie with me since I didn't manufacture the ammunition? I know this question is WAY out there in "left field" but at the same time, I would hate to feel responsible for someone else's "defect" in which I had no control over. Once agan, a very silly question but it seems I have the worst of luck sometimes and just wanted to know if I would have any other recourse for such an unintentional and uncontrollable malfunction. BTW, I keep my gun cleaned and carry 155 gr. Speer Gold Dots for personal protection which seem to get good reviews.
  20. Welcome to the TGO
  21. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction on the state codes, I will give them a look. I guess my question kinda falls into somewhat of a grey area of the law. I sometimes ponder on the unusual "what if" scenarios too much with the uncertainty that, if presented with such a situation, I would hope that I would be on the right side of the law if I were forced to respond. I guess I tend to overcomplicate things. I always strive to avoid any kind of trouble at all costs. Even though I possess a HCP, I still strive to steer clear from any parts of town, people, times of day etc, that would be a potential problem.
  22. Welcome!
