WARNING! Tisas 1911 is a DO NOT BUY or... (Tanker's Revenge)
lock n' load replied to a topic in Handguns
Thanks Garufa. I was contemplating on getting one. I can't decide between a full size or a compact model. SW doesn't have the RIA compact versions in. They only had the full ones. Impact Guns and Buds have some compact ones but I'd need to pay a FFL transfer fee to get one. Dunno if that would justify getting a smaller one or just go with a full size -
WARNING! Tisas 1911 is a DO NOT BUY or... (Tanker's Revenge)

I was in Sportsmans Warehouse today and handled a couple of RIA 1911s. I like them. They seem a good budget gun if you don't have the $ to drop on a Kimber or Colt. I've read many good things about them. My question is would you trust your life in one as an EDC? -
Shooter convicted of 2nd degree murder...
lock n' load replied to lock n' load's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
The way I see it is that if the shooter would have just minded his own business then the situation would never had occurred. It wasn't his place or authority to confront people over things that didn't directly affect him. Sure, we as permit holders have seen people do blatant and stupid things while we are carrying but we don't confront them. I also think that if (A) the shooter was an officer in an argument with the driver, I think the victim would have thought twice about charging him and knocking him down. There are some idiots who disregard the law enough to do so, but it usually ends badly for them and (B) if the shooter wasn't armed then most likely he wouldn't have started the argument to begin with. I think that most people who carry a gun do so with respect for the law and life itself. They avoid conflict at all costs and would only use deadly force as a last resort. However, there are some out there who legally carry who become emboldened by that ability and may say or do things they normally wouldn't do unarmed. They somehow think they can "police" society over things that ill them. They feel justified in confrontation knowing that if they stoke a fire and it becomes too hot to handle, then they can shoot their way out and claim self defense. Those are the types of people who have no need to carry a gun. It also seems that the media can only find the few bad apples to show the public how "bloodthirsty HCP holders are". It's not often that the news will show a justified case of deadly force. That wouldn't fit their narrative. They would rather focus on the negative stories which causes division and discord between the masses (just read the comments section on the news articles about this story). Some may disagree with me but that's just how I feel about these recent shootings. They give the good permit holders a bad name. -
What price range should I go for? I saw this on Amazon. Would it be any good? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01NCVHZK7/ref=sr_ob_3?s=industrial&ie=UTF8&qid=1532400769&sr=1-3

Shooter convicted of 2nd degree murder...
lock n' load replied to lock n' load's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I watched the video to that shooting and it appears to be unjustified. Apparently that man has had other run ins with other people about parking in handicapped spaces from what I have read. In this particular case, he found a "reason" to use deadly force. I am surprised that he isn't charged with something. Being pushed to the ground isn't grounds to shoot someone. I'm all for SYG laws. I think every state should have them. However, there are some instances where instigating a fight and using a gun to end it just plays into the anti-gunners hands on why they shouldn't be legal. 99.9% of SYG shootings are legally justified but in cases like this, it just gives the other side a reason to deem such laws "shoot to kill" or whatever bs they like to use to describe them... -
I currently use a Goldenrod dehumidifier In my safe and was thinking about getting a hydrometer to measure the humidity to see if the Goldenrod is keeping the moisture down in my safe. Are they necessary? Do they compliment a dehumidifier?

I should have made my title something different instead of "HCP holder sentenced" I don't know if he was an Alabama HCP holder so my bad for the misleading title... -

Just another reason for the anti-gunners to paint us as "loose cannons" or "vigilantes". smh... -

I agree. Having a HCP or not does not make one judge, jury and executioner or a LEO for that matter. Another example is the pharmacist in OK that was sentenced for shooting an assailant a few years ago. We as HCP holders must always remember that we do not have license to kill but to protect ourselves and loved ones. I have the feeling that he was looking for a reason to use deadly force when it wasn't warranted and then claimed self defense. He had made statements prior to the encounter that he would shoot if he saw the suspect. He got lucky to get second degree murder. It's like he planned out on "providing justice" if he encountered the suspect. That s premeditation to me. -
Opinions needed on red dot around $200
lock n' load replied to Erik88's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I too have astigmatism issues with red dots. I ended up going with a Vortex Spitfire 1x optic. The optic is a prism scope. It has a DRT (Dual Ring Tactical) reticle that is etched into the glass. Because of this, one can use the optic even when the batteries die. It has 5 green and 5 red lighting intensities. I looked at several red dots but due the "starburst" patterns they displayed, I needed to go another route. They have 1x and 3x models available. I got mine through Amazon. -
My safe finally arrived...
lock n' load replied to lock n' load's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I can change the interior lighting to multiple colors: blue, red, orange, yellow, green, etc. The only thing I kinda dislike is that the lights won't shut off unless I use the remote to turn them off. The guy at Old Glory Safes said they are looking at adding a sensor to turn it off. But all in all, it's not a big deal. I don't plan on accessing it unless I go to the range so it's not a deal breaker... -

Thanks. For the money, I think it was a good investment. I only got the 24 gun safe because I can't afford an arsenal (unless I win the lottery..lol). I have a few more guns I want to get but this should do nicely. -

Thanks Ronald_55. I got my account set up. I tried copying the link to the "Insert image from URL" but it wouldn't submit. Is there something else I need to do? Thanks. -

I bought the BR "Battle Ready" series safe but because of the promotion they were running, I got the SD "Super Duty" version of the safe instead. It was a pleasant surprise because I thought they had sent the wrong safe but I was informed that was intentional. I also want to thank Liz at Old Glory for setting up the shipping which was kinda complicated because I live on a dead end street and an 18-wheeler wouldn't be able to get down it. She arranged for another carrier with a box truck to deliver the safe and it arrived blemish and damage free. -
My safe finally arrived today. It is an Old Glory gun safe. I am really impressed with it. It is well built and pretty heavy (750 lbs). I like the interior LED lighting as I can change it to multiple colors. I also want to give a big shout out to Aaron Parker and his son with Parker Safes. Although I bought the safe direct from Old Glory, they did a top notch job on moving the safe carefully and took care not to damage the floors or the safe as they had to navigate up 6 steps and down a narrow hallway. He also explained how to open and operate my safe. I highly recommend them for any of your safe needs. Thanks Aaron. Will post pics as soon as I can shrink them down. Any good software downloads that will shrink .jpeg files down enough to post the pics?

I bought a gun safe made by Old Glory. The safe seems like it would be a good one. They were running a winter price break on them and I was able to finance the safe. Does anyone on here own one? If so, would it be comparable to a Superior safe? I wanted to get a Superior safe but couldn't find any options to finance one. Here's a link to the safe... https://www.oldglorygunsafes.com/large-24-gun-safe.html
