  1. I've had similar problems. I always start out practice sessions with a .22. Keeps the adrenaline low and get's me into the right zen-like mind set that lets me shoot accurately when I step up to the big guns.
  2. I've hunted with Loshbough many times. Great outfit. +1.
  3. Great turnout tonight. We had about thirty people show up. We are off to a great start! Special shout out to KahrMan... appreciate you coming.  If you couldn't make it but are interested, don't worry... we'll meet every other month, plus our banquet is next month in April.  Come join us next time... let's swap hunting stories (I promise to believe your most outrageous lies) and work together to protect our rights as outdoorsmen. Thanks again to David and TGO for letting me post here... you guys are the best!
  4. Join Us Tonight for the First Meeting of the Music City Chapter of Safari Club International Monday, March 14, 2016 6:00 pm - 7:30pm Carabba's Italian Grill in Green Hills 2101 Green Hills Village Dr, Nashville, TN 37215    Tonight (Monday 3/14) is the first open meeting of the Music City Chapter of Safari Club International. If you are interested in protecting your rights as a hunter, this is the organization for you. Join us tonight and learn more about the organization and it's mission. Together we can ensure that our rights as outdoorsmen will not be taken away!
  5. Perhaps even more relevant for this group are the guns we are auctioning. So far, we've got a Blaser R8 in .300 Win Mag, Kimber Mountain Ascent in .308 and a Kimber Stainless Ultra Carry II in .45 ACP. There should be a few more in the next week or so, I'm just waiting on confirmation.
  6. I've just posted a ton of new hunts for our auction. This is a great opportunity to get a bargain on the hunt of a lifetime. We've got a cape buffalo hunt in South Africa, Red Stag in New Zealand, Dove in Argentina, Fishing in Alaska and much much more. Check out MusicCitySCI.org and click on the banquet link for details. Come join us... tickets are only $75 and include a fantastic meal at the Richland Country Club.
  7. I love my Glock, but it doesn't come out of the holster unless I'm about to fire it or clean it. If I have to leave her behind it's holster and all... nice little OWB kydex paddle holster makes this easy. The holster is your primary safety for a Glock. You wouldn't leave your 1911 locked and cocked with the safety off... leaving a loaded Glock unholstered is pretty much the same thing to my mind.
  8. No need to be a member to attend either the meeting or the banquet. Although you do have to buy a ticket to come to the banquet.
  9. First let me say thank you to David and TGO for allowing me to post this information. The help is much appreciated. I'm posting today to invite all of you to join me in the Music City Chapter of Safari Club International. If you aren't familiar with the organization, think of us as NRA for hunters with a little Ducks Unlimited thrown in the mix. Our mission is very simple: Protect hunters rights, help conserve wildlife and support our local community. SCI is a US based organization and despite the name, most of our efforts are focused on domestic legislation and conservation. You can learn more at the website: https://www.safariclub.org If you are interested in protecting your rights as a hunter, this is the organization for you. No other group does more to ensure that our hunting legacy will be here for generations to come. The Music City Chapter is brand new and we'll be having our first general membership meeting on March 14th at Carraba's in Green Hills. Come join us and learn more about our mission. Then on April 7th, we'll be hosting our first Banquet and Auction. I'm proud and excited to announce that our guest speaker will be the world famous author, big game hunter and star of "The Boddington Experience": Craig Boddington. Craig is (in my opinion) the greatest outdoor writer working today. We also have some great auction items up for bid including a Blaser Professional R8 in .300 win mag, a Kimber Mountain Ascent in .308 as well as some really great hunts, fishing trips and much more. It's a fantastic opportunity to pick up some bargains and help out a good cause. You can join up, buy banquet tickets and review the auction items at our website: Musiccitysci.org If you have questions, need more information or prefer to sign up offline, just PM me here or email me at chis.west@musiccitysci.org and I'll get you taken care of. Thanks, Chris West Director Music City Chapter, SCI
  10. I had a similar "come to Jesus" moment about my weight last year. Cut back on what I eat (eliminating carbs and sugar wherever I could) and started walking a couple of miles a day... dropped 40 lbs.... well, closer to 30 lbs at the moment.. it's a constant struggle. I still need to work on my cardio, but at least I feel like I can do that now without keeling over. It's a ton of effort, but I feel better these days than I have for most of my adult life... totally worth it.

    375 H&H

Pretty. Odd that there's a peep sight on a dangerous game gun, but who am I to argue with Elmer Keith.

    375 H&H

Well, since we are on the topic, several dangerous game guns are currently available in the Dallas Safari Club newsletter:   Blaser Double w/ two sets of barrels (470 NE and 30-06) - $10k CZ 550 in .416 Rigby - $1k Merkel Double in .470 NE - $13k Custom .375 H&H built on a pre-64 Winchester action - $1,750 Searcy Double in 500 NE - $8k   Let me know if you need contact info. Also, if anybody needs info about hunting Africa, let me know... I got a guy.

    375 H&H

Interesting. I hadn't heard about this. Can't imagine how much that would cost. I expect something close to the GNP of a mid sized South American country.

    375 H&H

If you can't resist the sirens song of a double rifle, I'd recommend joining Dallas Safari Club or SCI... quality used doubles come up for sale in their newsletters on a regular basis... or just let me know and I'll keep an eye out for you. Merkel is the lowest end double I can recommend... from there you want to look at Heym, Kreighoff or Verney-Carron. Whatever you do, do not invest your money in Sabatti or any other low end double... they are terrible, terrible rifles.

A good double is stupid expensive. I'd advise against it unless you are going to take up dangerous game hunting in a serious way. You can get cheaper ones, but they just... suck. A good bolt action CZ is much more reasonable and will do everything you need. Seriously, unless you are going to dance with animals with nicknames like "black death" you simply don't need the fast follow up shot that a double provides....It's a specialists tool.   I was handling some of the CZ's at Dallas Safari Club last week and each year they seem to get better. Smooth bolt, very pretty wood and every bit as accurate (so I'm told by PH's that do this for a living) as more expensive bolt actions.   Check this bad boy out: http://cz-usa.com/product/cz-550-american-safari-magnum-375-hh-5-rd-fixed-mag/ $1250. This is the bolt action I have and it's a great gun: http://www.sako.fi/rifles/sako-85/85-kodiak - but it's going to run closer to $2k For the money you are going to have a tough time beating the CZ.   I like the Ruger #1, but to my mind .375 is a dangerous game caliber and hunting things that hunt back with a single shot rifle requires bigger stones than I have.

    375 H&H

Me. I'm all about the the .375 H&H. Great big game cartridge. I've got a Sako that is quite good, but usually shoot a Merkel double rifle in .375 H&H. General consensus among the Safari crowd is that the CZ is your best value for the dollar when it comes to dangerous game rifles.
  17. That's a little light for Elephant or buffalo, but it hits the minimum requirements so why not. It'd play hell with light skinned game like lion or leopard.
  18. That's me. All decked out for Africa... never thought of a lever action for game over there, but it might be fun.
  19. Henry is releasing a .45-70 lever action: https://www.henryrifles.com/rifles/45-70-lever-action/ If you scroll down, you'll see a pic of me using the rifle on that page. Oleg Volk took the pic a while back... I'm kind of tickled that they chose to use the shot... I work in advertising but it's rare I end up on that side of the camera.
  20. Good feedback. Thanks for posting the review.
  21. We popped a young buck on Saturday that looked like he had just recently shed his antlers. I'd say start looking now.
  22. Good point. The label says its a sour mash whiskey bourbon. If that's how they want to self identify... who am I to argue? Whatever you call it, it's tasty. Why yes, now that you mention it, I will have another.
  23. Just cracked open a bottle of Belle Meade bourbon. Very nice stuff. I'd say on par w/ Makers Mark... maybe a little better. It's not quite Angel's Envy, but it's durn good. I think I'll have another.
  24. Thank you both for doing this. It makes me sick to my stomach how some people treat animals. I'm going to go play w/ my pups now and try not to think about all the evil $#%*s in the world. I'm so glad this beautiful dog is being cared for. Bless you both for the good you do.
  25. I just started watching it. Not bad at all. Kung-fu, samurai, western... sorta. I'm a sucker for a well choreographed sword fight so I'll watch for that alone.
