I haven't hunted Zim, but a couple of our chapter members have. What are you looking to hunt? Have you been to Africa before?
  2. I shoot PRVI as practice ammo through my double .375 H&H... It shoots a little dirty, but is very reliable in my experience.
  3. Orwell's 1984 was supposed to be a warning, not a handbook.
  4. Sweet. I've seen the scope with a matching camo pattern. It's pretty sharp.
  5. I use one for storage and it's awesome. Be careful though, the cheaper ones tend to be leaky. Make sure you can inspect it first. I spent a little more and got mine here: www.mobilemini.com They ensure it's water tight, not rusted out and upgrade the security as well... you aren't getting in without a cutting torch. Probably more than you need to make a house but it's worked out well for me. One thing I would recommend is make sure you've got a good level gravel bed to set it on... well worth the effort.
  6. I had the chance to train with Pat. Truly one of a kind. Great trainer and great patriot. He'll be missed.
  7. Neat.
  8. I owe Oleg 1200 words... just gotta find some time.
  9. Yep. Zero problems with mine.
  10.   You bet! Come to the next Music City SCI meeting and we'll talk Africa. MusicCitySCI.org
  11. I usually hunt Soutern Africa, so it's usually "Nkosi" instead of bwana. Nkosi is Zulu (or possibly Xhosa.. not sure). Bwana is Swahili and would be used further up the coast in Eastern Africa. Yes, I know... I'm a pedantic jackass.
  12. I zero to the right barrel and let the left fall where it will... Usually an inch to the left. 9 times out of 10 you won't need the second barrel if you make a good first shot so I focus on that. The quick follow up is the main reason for a double, but reliability is another. Each barrel has it's own firing mechanism completely independent of the other.... if one fails the other is ready to go. When you hunt things that hunt back, that can be pretty important.
  13. Here's a really cool video showing how they make them...  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wj1k2jMYhuc
  14. I'll test her out on a Cape Buffalo in June. Caprivi strip in Namibia... hunting the flood plains of the Chobe River. Some really big herds there... looking for an old dagga boy. Can't wait!
  15. Well, it's finally here. Took almost a year and a half but I have my new double rifle in my hot little hands. She's a bespoke double built specifically for me by L'Atelier Verney Carron. Azur model in .450-400 Nitro Express. She handles like a dream. I can close my eyes and shoulder the rifle... when I open them the sights are perfectly aligned. The balance on this thing is unbelievable and makes this 9.6lb rifle feel much lighter than it is. Of course all this quality comes at a steep price... this is by far the most expensive weapon I've ever purchased and the only way I pulled it off is with the help of TGO. I joke that in order to afford her I had to sell every gun I own that doesn't have a name and while that's an exaggeration it's only because I don't name my handguns. So, if you've bought a gun from me in the last year and a half... thank you... you helped pay for this bad girl. Oleg Volk did a photo shoot with her and you'll find some of the photos below. These are unretouched studio shots so there are a few studio artifacts that will be removed before they are published, but I just couldn't wait to show her off. Enjoy and thanks again to everyone who helped me make this happen.
  16. The purple one will be missed. Purple Rain was the soundtrack to my senior year in high school. I have fond memories of "co-ed" activities with that album playing in the background. It was a good year. RIP Prince.
  17. If you can figure out where it came from you'll have a better chance w/ pricing it. A lot depends on the condition. Does it have the liner? What condition is the leather in? A M1 from ww2 w/ 101st airborne markings is going for $350 or so on ebay. I assume that would be the high end of the market. Unmarked helmets are going for anywhere from 50 - 100 bucks depending on condition. Research that logo... I expect that's your best chance to figure it out.
  18. The last one looks to be a reproduction of the Brodie style WW1 helmet... used by many many countries.. hard to say exactly without closer examination. I say reproduction because that's in ridiculously good shape for something over a hundred years old. Same for the Nazi helmet. I'd guess both are reproductions.  The M1 with the cross and crown on it is interesting. It looks authentic. Can't find the unit designation but I'm guessing either British or Danish (Brits cause a lot of the military art of the period looks like that and Danes because of the white cross on the red background) but that's pure speculation. The M1 was widely used by Brits, Dutch and many others post ww2.The second one down looks Italian, but it's hard to say... lots of similar helmets in various parts of europe.
  19. I've got a small collection as well. Kinda specialized but I'd like to see the pics.

  22. Last night. I meant to post a reminder here, but there were a ton of last minute details that stole my attention. Sorry about that. It went extremely well. Great turnout and a TGO member walked away with two of the best guns at the auction. We'll have another general meeting in a month or so and if all goes well, we'll be rolling out a member's only series of online auctions for hunts, firearms and gear. You can join up at musiccitysci.org or keep an eye on this site and I'll post before the next meeting happens. Thanks again to TGO for allowing us to post our event here.
  23. You've got a toxic Hildabeest in DC... that's kinda close.
  24. I've had some work done by Nashville Custom Leather in Fairview. Phillipe is a great guy and his prices are very reasonable. Excellent quality work as well.  http://www.nashvillecustomleathers.com
  25. Outpost is owned by the Barretts. Absolutely the best place to check out a .50. They always have a couple in stock.
