I'm sorry Senator, I have no recollection of those events or any events that might be construed as being related.

Can't kill a deer from the house. I'll be out. Good luck every one!

Cheaper is obviously better, but I'm not afraid to spend a little money on the right gun(s).

That's awesome! Is it still shootable?

Ooooh, I hadn't thought of a Krag. That'd be fun. Thanks!

I was looking at an 1884 Springfield in .45-70 but man it's pricey. Totally jealous of your rolling block.

I'm wanting to pick up a couple of usable pre-1899 firearms... anyone have any advice on what to look for? I had been thinking about a couple of S&W top break .38's but frankly don't really know what to look for and what to avoid. Revolvers would be my first choice but right after that I'll start looking for an appropriate 12 ga. and possible a rifle or two. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the correction Gentlemen. I was trying to get this posted on the run. My mistake.

Just got confirmation that our speaker tonight will be Julie Schuster the Executive Director for TWRA. She'll be talking about the elk but will also take questions from the audience. I invite all of you to join us.
-
Looks like we will have a couple of TWRA representatives speaking. I'm told they'll be talking about the successful reintroduction of Elk to East Tennessee. Should be interesting. Also, you do not need to be a member to attend. Just cmon by, the meetings are a lot of fun.

Good point, Rob. Hadn't thought of that.

Not that hard to teach yourself. I'm no expert but we can get from field to freezer in about 3 hours flat now. I learned using this dvd: http://www.cabelas.com/product/Outdoor-Edge-Deer-and-Big-Game-Processing-Volume-DVD/747317.uts?searchPath=%2Fbrowse.cmd%3FcategoryId%3D734095080%26CQ_search%3Ddeer%2Bprocessing%2Bdvd%26CQ_st%3Db You tube also has many many informational videos. That being said, if you find a professional processor who will give classes, let me know... always looking to improve my techniques.

Congratulations! Enjoy!

Booooooo. I like Bass Pro alright, but Cabelas has always had a better product selection and usually slightly better prices. Oh well. So much for that.

Nice. I didn't know they came that cheap.

That's a good alternative I hadn't considered.

EOTech w/ IR visible red dot for the sight and a gen 3 ATN NVM14 for the monocular. I tried it w/ the monocular mounted on the rifle and that worked ok, but I couldn't look at anything without sweeping it w/ my muzzle. I tried it w/ the monocular on the head band mount and that was great for being able to look around but getting everything aligned so I can see the red dot is extremely difficult.... which has led me to the laser.

I'm setting up an AR-10 for a little night time hog hunting in Texas. I've got a decent setup in terms of rifle and NVG but I need to add a decent IR laser so I can actually aim the damn thing in the dark. I've tried shooting w/ a IR red dot but it's a huge PITA. So, I would appreciate any suggestions for a decent IR laser that won't break the bank. I don't need mil-spec and I can't drop 2k on a laser but I do need something that will hold zero under the recoil of a .308. Any suggestions?

If I knew then what I know now about EDC
Chris replied to mbeard1's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Good belt and good holster are key. Don't skimp on these. I've never been able to make iwb work for me so I carry my G26 owb w/ an untucked shirt. Never had anyone say a word. No one notices as near as I can tell. I also carry a ruger lcp in my pocket if I'm in a non-permissive environment (you can interpret that however you like). It absolutely disappears. Otoh, it is a bear to shoot accurately. Short sight radius, tiny grips, short barrel and a really long trigger make on target hits difficult. Practice is essential! Regardless of what you decide on, practice is critical. Not just shooting but clearing any concealing clothing and drawing the weapon... to me that's critical. My drills revealed several shirts that fit too tightly for owb carry... makes it too difficult to clear the weapon w/o snagging it on the shirt. Practice til the movements are firmly embedded in muscle memory. -
New? Nah. We've always been governed by morons. Otoh, they do seem to be raising the bar on stupid.

Looking for input for a outfitter for hog hunting
Chris replied to up2snuff's topic in Hunting and Fishing
Np. Have a great time! You'll need to take your own food but the accommodations are just fine. Guides are awesome and they have some great dogs if you want to go that route. They have a taxidermist right down the road who does all their butchering and can mount your hog as well... they can be a little slow sometimes but they do really nice work and it's quite affordable. -

+1 on Loshbough. Quality outfit, great hunting and they've got some BIG hogs back in there. -
I'd pay good money to watch someone try to shoot this thing.
