Reminds me of an old joke. A police officer pulls over an old lady for speeding and asks if she has any firearms in the car. She says yes. I've got a .38 revolver on my hip, a 1911 in the glove box, a shotgun and an AR15 in the trunk.. and oh yes, a pearl handled .25 on my ankle. The cops eyes get really big and he asks her: "Ma'am what are you so scared of?" The old lady smiles sweetly and says "Not a damn thing, young man."

Thermacells have become an essential part of my early season hunting kit. Truly great equipment. Permethrin is even better. That stuff is like a bug force field.

It's going to be hot but I'll be out. Just have to hunt close to the creek.

I'm not climbing any mountains so a few extra ounces don't matter to me. That being said, my can does make the rifle very muzzle heavy. It's not bad, but a lighter can would obviously help.

I've been hunting with a suppressed .308 for several years. It makes the entire experience much more pleasurable. I find ear pro uncomfortable if I wear it continuously over several hours. So, as often as not it's hanging around my neck when a deer walks out of the bush. The suppressor means that's not an issue. There is still a super sonic crack... but it's well away from me and doesn't hurt my ears. The deer certainly know the direction the shot came from due to the round breaking the sound barrier but they are looking in my general direction instead of right at my stand. It has allowed me, on the rare occasion, to take a second deer out of a group. I tried hunting w/ the subsonic .300 b.o. and while I was blown away by how quiet it was, I really don't think it's suitable as a hunting round (at least for me). I took a deer at 120 yds with it... so it works... but I had to compensate for something like a 14" drop. Additionally, when we butchered the deer we found that the round failed to expand and tumbled pretty severely. It was a heart shot, so it didn't matter but for me to trust a round, I need consistent penetration and expansion. Sooooo... in my mind subsonic .300 bo is ideal for CQB but not so great for hunts where you might need to reach out a bit. Regardless, I'm a big advocate for hunting suppressed.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Got what he deserved.

I just dumped a couple hundred rounds downrange this morning. Just not a lot to say about a G26 that hasn't been said many many times before.

Last I heard their waiting list for Strategic Edge was over 400 people long. I wouldn't get my hopes up there. I can't remember the name, but I was told there's a long distance range down towards Manchester.

The Gun of Your Dreams, The Hunt of a Lifetime
Chris replied to Chris's topic in Hunting and Fishing
It's gonna be a fun night. I've also got a ton of great hunts on auction. Some in Africa, but I've got quite a few here in the States as well. With this many guns and hunts available, I think there are going to be some really good bargains. -

I've hunted with Excalibur Matrix crossbows for about five years now. I can't recommend them enough. They are simple, easy to maintain and shoot groups at 40 yds w/ the bolts touching each other. They aren't cheap but are worth every penny.

Exactly! I had visions of Holland and Hollands, Kreighoffs and Heyms dancing in my head. -
Very nice. I can hook you up with an elephant hunt if you like.

I've found some feline scat on my property about an hour west of Nashville that looked to be way too big for a bobcat. This was probably 20 - 30 miles from where one of the the trail cam shots was taken. I can't say for sure it was a mountain lion but if it was from a bobcat I really feel sorry for him... couldn't have been easy to pass something that big. (size of big dog scat but shaped like feline scat). I've talked w/ the TWRA folks and they confirm that they are in the area but don't have sufficient data to determine if there's a breeding population or not.

Very true. I took a carbine course w/ Pat Rogers a while back and one of his favorite points was to fight with a wet bolt carrier group. Didn't matter what you used as long as it was lubed. To make the point he found someone w/ an insufficiently lubricated bolt, pulled out some vagisil and lubricated the bolt. Dude then went on to fire several hundred rounds that day w/o a single problem. I'm not going to run feminine products in my guns, but his point was well taken.

I was out last night and this morning. Nothing moving on my place but driving out I saw a large group of does (6 - 10) with a couple of young bucks trailing behind on my neighbors property. This was 10am or so. I'll try to hit the woods a few more times this season. Pretty sure I could fit another doe into the freezer.

For EDC, I've started carrying the SureFire Sidekick on my key chain. It's tiny, rechargeable and quite bright. Not a tactical light by any means. The light is more of a flood light instead of a tight spot, but it's very bright on it's highest setting and I always have it in my pocket. Since I got it, it sees far more use than any of my other lights. https://www.amazon.com/SureFire-Sidekick-300-Lumen-Ultra-Compact-Triple-Output/dp/B0177H4S5Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1481293522&sr=8-1&keywords=surefire+keychain+flashlight

I feel your pain. The deer have gone nocturnal on my farm. Lots of hunters in the surrounding area so pressure is pretty extreme. I'm hoping this cold weather coming in will drive them out during the day to warm up. I've noticed in past years when there is a cold snap they'll hit the fields once the sun gets over the trees. Usually start seeing movement around 9 or 10. Hoping that pattern holds. I need another doe or two to finish filling the freezer.
