  2. Assuming I don't soil myself when I come face to face w/ a tusker, then pix will be forthcoming.
  3. The rifled 12 gauge is definitely appealing for the cost factor alone. I hadn't considered the 45-70... I'll look into it. I'll hunt from the ground so I want some serious knock down power.
  4. I am moving forward on my boar hunt... contacting several guides and checking availability. I'm really looking forward to this and appreciate everyone's advice so far. As I start planning, it occurs to me that this is an excellent excuse to buy a new rifle. So, anyone have suggestions on boar hunting rifles?
  5. +1 Stones River. Love that range.
  6. I'm definitely thinking a guided hunt the first time out. I'll check out Caryonah. Thanks.
  7. A friend and I are interested in going on a boar hunt. Any suggestions on where to get started?

    SHOT show

Apparently it's the policy of the Convention Center: Personal Firearms Carry Policy Per Sands Expo Convention Center (SECC) policy, personal firearms or ammunition are not allowed. Only firearms on display by exhibitors whose firing pins have been removed (and have been inspected by SHOT Show Safety Advisors) will be permitted on the show floor. I'm guessing (and this is just a guess) that there are only a couple of convention centers big enough to hold the show... Orlando and Vegas have the two biggest in the country and neither allow firearms. If that's the case, they may simply not have a choice. As to why the convention center would be posted... well you got me there... no idea.

I'm on the same schedule... flying in Sunday back on Friday. Can't wait!
  10. Great carry gun, but the recoil is pretty sharp. My wife had to move to a heavier revolver in order to keep it manageable. I did change out the factory grips for something that would pick up my pinkie finger... that helped a lot with recoil but cut down on the guns concealability.

NRA is a bit smaller, but still a great convention and definitely oriented more towards the general public.

Dude. It's a second amendment Disneyland for anyone in the business. If you ever get the chance, I highly recommend it. However, the convention is specifically for folks working in the firearms business... a LOT of sales, deals and general business are done on the floor of the show. It sucks that they have to restrict entry, but last year in Orlando it was so crowded you could barely move down the aisles.
  13. Good read. Much of it matches what I hear from National Guard Soldiers posted in Iraq.
  14. I would think a revolver would make sense. Operating the slide w/ a bum arm could be a problem. Laser also makes a lot of sense for off hand shooting. J-frame w/ laser would be the way I would go.

    Retro Carry

Very nice. Love the classic look.
  16. +1 Walther PPS
  17. I'm a big fan of layered security. Bolts on the windows as described above, security system, guard dog(s) aaaaaand the gun in / on the nightstand.
  18. My wife and I spent a lot of time choosing her sidearm. In the end she settled on a FNP-9. It's easy for her to handle and shoot accurately and unlike a lot of pistols she can manipulate the slide without having to fight with it. The 9mm in a full sized pistol means minimal recoil. She is also fond of my Glock but isn't comfortable carrying with out a safety on the weapon.
  19. I saw him perform for the troops in Iraq. When he played the Devil went down to Georgia for the 48th (out of GA) the place went berserk. Great entertainer, great patriot and a great man. Thanks for the post.
  20. Terry Walden in Manchester has a 300 yd range and allows .50 BMG from what I've heard.

    Electric guns

Lots of info available on the Metal Storm site: Metal Storm - Home
  22. Full disclosure: I work in marketing for Barrett. That being said, the REC 7 is an awesome gun. It's tough as nails... I've seen the gun buried, submerged and treated in some truly horrific ways. Each time it fired without fail. Pretty serious piece of hardware.
  23. I carry a walther pps 9mm as my carry gun when I can't get away with something bigger. I really like it. It disappears under my coat and still shoots like a full sized gun. Very accurate, eats any ammo that I've fed it... I've carried for 12 years now and with the exception of mouse guns, I haven't found anything that is as comfortable and concealable as the PPS.
  24. I found mine out at Franklin Gun Store, but that was a few months ago. Don't know if they have it in stock.
  25. I hate traveling in those towns. If I have to go I carry a sure-fire flashlight and a good strong pen... blind 'em and run. The pen makes a rather pitiful weapon... but it's better than bare hands. The flashlight also makes a decent striking weapon. You can carry your flashlight and pens on planes, in museums, etc.
