  1. Wind was very stiff this weekend. Saw lots of deer but with the exception of a few young bucks they were all out past 200 yards. Just can't make that shot with a smoke pole. Thank goodness next week is rifle season. Finally get to put the primitive weapons away and use a real gun.
  2. Probably for the best. I really don't have room in my safe for a custom shaped chunk of granite w/ red dot sights and built in rangefinder.
  3. I think I'll start hunting with rocks. That should be fair, right? Gonna be kind of a pain getting a decent sized boulder up in the tree stand tho... or is that cheating as well? Seriously, if it isn't against the rules as set down by the TWRA, I don't have a problem with it. Hunting pigs with dogs at a hunting lodge isn't anywhere near as difficult as stalking one with a bow. The archer has a much tougher job, but i'm not about to belittle the man who ran down a 500 lb hog w/ dogs. One is obviously harder than the other, but both are valid hunts. Far be it from me to tell another man how to enjoy his time in the woods.
  4. I'll be picking up a bottle tomorrow. Sounds wonderful.
  5. How does it compare to say, Woodford Reserve? Is it peppery or smooth? I love me some good bourbon.
  6. One of the reasons I like the Ruger Gunsite Scout so much are the iron sights. Ruger® Gunsite Scout Rifle Models
  7. Piercings, gauges and tats aren't really my thing but that girl is HOT!
  8. I'd recommend Loshbough Hunting Lodge... It's a guided hunt in a 500 acre reserve and the hogs are pretty much all raised there. Great folks and good animals to hunt (I've pulled two 400+ lb boars out of there). Full disclosure - Loshbough has been a client of mine in the past.
  9. Oh good. I kinda hope he responds to me now. Surely I can think of some appropriate mischief. Would this constitute interstate mail fraud?
  10. Thanks for the heads up. I just sent a message.

    "Big Game" Guns

I've got a nice Sako .375 H&H if you are interested. It's the perfect Africa gun for anything other than elephant.
  12. This.
  13. I do hunt for trophies, but I make a point of using as much of the animal as possible. That big buck may not taste as good as a doe but he'll make some fine chili meat. As for Africa, everything... and I mean EVERYTHING... get's used off of those animals. Hunters keep the skull and hides (illegal to export the meat) and the rest goes to feed the camp or local tribals (they especially prize the internal organs), bones become bone meal for gardens and hooves are sold for making gelatin. I was very impressed with just how efficient they are at utilizing everything from snout to tail.
  14. The West Nashville contingent had a good first meeting. Thanks to TrekBike, Ebow1 and MonkeyLizard for showing up. We discussed various prep scenarios, our skill levels and ways that we might provide assistance to each other in an emergency situation. We didn't get into any serious planning, but it was good to put names to faces. We are planning a second get together before too long out at the range. If anyone else would like to be included in that get together as well as the mailing list we are starting, please PM me and I'll be sure to include you.
  15. Heh. I have been told that I bear some resemblance to ole T.R. Let's definitely meet outside. I'll be wearing a grey under armor ball cap.
  16. I'll see you gentlemen this evening at 6:30. Looking forward to meeting you all.
  17. .375 H&H Magnum... there's not much on the planet that won't fall before this one.
  18. How about we make this official: City Limit, Thursday night at 6:30pm? I'm in.
  19. The first good looking doe that crosses my path is going to end up in the freezer.
  20. I vote for Thursday or Friday.
  21. I'm good all this week. City Limits sounds like it could work just fine.
  22. Sounds like we've got a pretty good West Nashville contingent. Anybody have suggestions on a meet and greet?
  23. I'm just north of you guys... off West End and 440.
  24. I work near the airport but live right off of west end and 440.
