  1. I just got back from picking up some brass out there. Plenty of .22 on the shelves. 3:15pm 2/6/14
  2. My ruger lcp isn't much bigger and it has more bullets. Don't see the point of this one.
  3. You might try the local SCA folks. I've got to imagine there's someone in that community making what you want.
  4. Movie, not a tv show, but my favorite Western theme song has always been Tex Ritters "Do Not Forsake Me" from High Noon. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WzGtvnjtGtM
  5. Try these guys: https://www.museumreplicas.com/p-285-seax.aspx They are out of Atlanta, although the blades are forged in India.  Everything I've bought from them over the years has been properly tempered and of very good quality.
  6. Talk to the folks at Loshbough. I've taken meat hogs off there as well as boars... kinda expensive as pork chops go, but still a ton of fun. You are correct though, most of those big russian boars aren't suitable for anything but taxidermy.
  7. There are a couple of lodges in Cookeville and Crossville that specialize in hog hunting. Paid hunt, but it's a ton of fun. I've hunted with Caryonah and Loshbough.... both have good facilities and guides. I'm partial to Loshbough... bigger hunting area and in my experience, bigger hogs.
  8. Good info guys! Thanks!
  9. "And never, ever open carry a Glock unless you are a cop. Nobody wants to see that ugly thing." Heh. That's funny.   I can check off most of those and the rest are on the "to do" list. Except Schnees... I'm with homeagain, Russel Moccasins rule!
  10. Let me know how it goes. I've been interested but have also been put off by the guys jogging laps in the parking lot.
  11. It's a budget buster, but the Swarovski Z6i is an amazing optic. I can't recommend it enough.
  12. As for prep, it depends a lot on the hog and the conditions you took it under. If it's an old boar or if his dander was up, the meat will be suitable for little more than sausage. Younger pigs and females you can treat just like regular pork. It'll be leaner than you are used to, but the flavor is amazing. I'll usually save the hams and the ribs... the rest gets turned into sausage. Good luck with your hunt.
  13. Think of it as evolution in action.
  14. Also, you might want to look at shot placement... it's a little lower and farther forward than on deer.
  15. That'll certainly do the trick. Good luck w/ the hunt.
  16. I wouldn't use FMJ... you are going to want expansion on a big boar... they are tough sons of guns. I've used remington core-lokt .308 in 180gr and it smashed through the shoulder plate with no problem on a 250 lb boar. Round was recovered under the skin on the far side... perfect expansion and the hog didn't take more than a couple of steps before he went down.

    CZ 452 22lr?

I shoot my 455 over open sights as my warm up routine when I go to the range. If I'm shooting well (all offhand shots) it will easily print sub one inch groups at 25 yards. When I settle down and shoot off the bench with it, I can get those groups down to a half inch or so.
  18. I've hunted with Caryonah and Loshbough. Both good outfits.

    CZ 452 22lr?

I've got a CZ 455 that is an absolute tack driver. Glad to see it's not on the list.
  20. At least the other team showed up.
  21. I generally don't mind a heavy wind. I tend to stay out of the fields and go back in the woods where it's more sheltered. I'll also stalk from the ground.. not as cold and the noise from the wind covers my movement. I might not see as much, but it's tough to kill anything from inside the cabin.
  22. Praying for you and your family.
  23. I do my own butchering. It's a pain the first few times, but once you've got it down it really doesn't take that long. Took a doe this weekend. Three hours later, she's in small white packages and on the way to the freezer.
  24. I did the same thing btw. The 150's and 180's are right next to each other and marked pretty much identically.
  25. I shoot both of those. The one on the left is 180gr the one on the right is 150gr.
