  1. Define larger game. Probably just fine on a whitetail. Might just make a moose mad. Really, it's all about shot placement... if you can make a brain shot you can kill an elephant w/ a 5.56... however, if your placement isn't perfect.... you're gonna have a bad time. Courney Selous killed a TON of elephant with a .256 (I think that's right)... but he was one of the greatest hunters to ever live. Personally, I'm sold on the .308. I've had great success with it out past 300 yards. 30-06 has very similar ballistics.
  2.   You'd hunt moose or grizz w/ a .270? How do you walk with stones that big?
  3. I've lived in Seattle and Port Townsend (on the peninsula) and am familiar with Bellingham. (All of this was many many moons ago so my info may be outdated). It's pretty but you'll be happier on the east side of the cascades. They call it the left coast for a reason.

    Bears in my AO

If anyone needs the bears shooed off their property, I'd be glad to come and hunt them. Trying to line up a hunt in East Tn for this fall anyway and I'd rather hunt private property if it's an option. I've got several successful bear hunts under my belt and can conduct the hunts safely and responsibly. Additionally, I've got a good deal of experience hunting dangerous game of various stripes. I'd even be glad to provide gifts, trades or out and out bribes for the opportunity. PM me if interested.
  5. Perfect time for planting... actually a touch early yet. I'll turn my fields this week and let them rest for at least a week before I put seed out.
  6. I've had great luck with turnips late season. The deer leave them alone until it turns cold then they are all over them. I'll mix that with some clover, maybe some winter wheat or oats to pull them during the early season.
  7. SCIENCE! Gotta go move my trail cams.
  8. My computer is being screwy when I try to print these targets... are they all 8 1/2 x 11"? Just want to be sure I'm not printing them too large or too small.
  9. My best way is to creep under his gaberdine; there is no other shelter hereabout: misery acquaints a man with strange bedfellows. -Shakespeare, The Tempest
  10. I've had good luck with Privi. I use their .375 H&H for practice rounds and I've hunted w/ the .308 in soft point.  Never had any problem's with it.
  11. Thanks. I needed a good laugh today.
  12. I have to agree about not buying too much tractor. I've got a beast and frankly it's more machine than I need. Cumberland Tractor here in Nashville is a great outfit if you are looking for a dealer.

    Turn on AMC

I'm about four episodes deep. So far a very good show. Freaking redcoats.
  14. Oh, and as to brand. I really like the Excalibur xbows. It's a little bigger than modern xbows but much less likely to have problems. Also if the string breaks, I can easily replace it in the field. I topped it off with trijicons xbow optics... pretty nice piece of kit.
  15. I switch back and forth. The xbow is preferred for still hunting (stand or blind) but it is damn near impossible to stalk through the woods with it. I'll use the compound if I'm stalking or even if I just have to hike through the woods for a while.
  16. Hung a couple of new stands today. Can't wait.
  17. aaaand, it's gone.
  18. I try to make things as easy as possible for the officer when I get pulled over. I roll down my windows (all of them), turn on the interior lights, place both hands on the wheel and when the LEO asks provide both Lisc and HCP which are on the dash so I don't have to take my hands out of sight. I figure that's gotta be a tense moment for an officer... walking up on an unknown... anything I can do to make their life easier. The officers seem to be appreciative. It might not be necessary but it costs me nothing and makes their lives a little less tense, so why not.
  19. Well, heck. I'll sell similar rocks for $5 ea. I'll even provide you with a pick and shovel... of course, they are still buried in the ground....
  20. Oh no! I used to play poker with Jack. He was an amazing guy. I'll be praying for his family.
  21. We just ate the last of the sweet potatoes from last year. That's 9 months since we pulled them out of the ground. Baked up as well as anything from the store... not as good as when they were harvested, but still pretty darn tasty.
  22. Nice! Nothing runs like a Deere.

    Count me out!

Think of it as evolution in action.
  24. Yep. Don't want to get killed for lack of shooting back.
  25. Pretty sure that was Bear Grylls. That guy is a freaking moron.
