  1. +1 for Flowers. I do my own processing now, but they are a quality outfit. Processing your own meat really isn't difficult... It takes me about four hours to get one from field to freezer. I taught myself using this video:  http://www.amazon.com/Outdoor-DP-101-Processing-Complete-Instructional/dp/B000VIRBDA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1414007143&sr=8-1&keywords=dvd+deer+processing
  2. Signed. What nonsense. I guess because my dogs kill possums under my house they'll be coming to my door next.
  3. Nice! Thanks!
  4. Welcome! Any cooking tips or recipes for game would be most appreciated. The freezer is starting to fill up and I'd love to try something other than my usual grilled backstrap.
  5. The express v style setup takes a little while to get used to but for me sight acquisition is faster and it gives me a much more open sight picture. I use a similar set up on my double rifle for those exact reasons.   Now, for precise target shooting, it's not the setup I'd reach for.... but for self defense and close quarters I much prefer it.   Your mileage may vary.
  6. Yeah, I had the same concern, but they've added some interior steel bars that lock w/ a barrel lock. Easiest way in would be an oxy acetylene torch straight through the side.  Heck, if they are going to that much effort, there's not a lot I can do to stop them.
  7. Yeah, it was a little pricey, but I needed the security in a remote area... I think the cost for a full sized container delivered and placed was close to 5k. It hurt to write the check, but I've been glad I did it.
  8. I got a container from these guys: https://www.mobilemini.com All I had to provide was a level gravel pad... they delivered and placed it.  Had it for two years now... zero leaks, works great. I use it as storage and a garage for my atv. Mobile mini put additional security on it that means unless you've got a cutting torch, you aint getting in. Very happy with it so far.
  9. Pretty!
  10. Excellent.
  11. Two down. Butchered and in the freezer.  Pressures off, now I can relax and enjoy the rest of the season.
  12. It's Whitetail Eve! My favorite holiday!   I'm thinking we need some carols or something...    It's the most wonderful time of the year. Bucks will be blowing Adrenaline flowing When tall tines are near. It's the most wonderful time of the year.
  13. Best thing for removing copper: http://www.amazon.com/WIPE-OUT-5OZ-BORE-CLEANER/dp/B00162NQ0W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1411412621&sr=8-1&keywords=wipeout+gun+cleaner
  14. Beauty!
  15. Nice.
  16. Pick me! Pick me! So in.
  17. I love the Thermacell product. I use it extensively in the early season to keep the skeeters off the stand.  I treat my clothes with permithrin to deal with the ticks and chiggers. Between that and the Thermacell, I don't have to use anything else. Haven't noticed anything reacting to the smell... in fact, they make it with a cover scent: http://www.amazon.com/ThermaCELL-E-4-Mosquito-Repellent-Appliances/dp/B003ITF3IE/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1410376790&sr=8-10&keywords=thermacell
  18. My favorite is the National Archives. They are open late and if you wait til an hour or so before they close you can have some alone time with the Declaration of Independence.  They let me fog the glass for a solid half hour... only had two other people come by during that time. No carry allowed... stay in tourist areas, use cabs, stay alert... treat it like you are travelling outside the country and you'll be fine.
  19. .22lr - .375 H&H Magnum.... and every now and again, I break out the 50 BMG.
  20. As I said...IF the math is right. Oleg Volk seems to agree that it's recoil is manageable. http://www.alloutdoor.com/2014/08/19/bullpup-50-bmg-st-george-arms-leader-50a1/ That's a helluva muzzle brake if it can tame a .50 BMG. I remain skeptical, but I've been known to be wrong every now and again.
  21. Yeah. Not buying that.   I regularly shoot .375 H&H Magnum - usually 30 rounds per practice session, so I am by no means averse to heavy recoil. I also own a barrett that weighs in around 30 lbs. I can fire 6 shots out of it before my shoulder is done. The same round out of an 18 lb rifle... no reasonable person can describe that as mild recoil.   Just for reference - http://www.chuckhawks.com/recoil_table.htm According to this chart (I have no way to verify his stats): A .308 out of an eight pound rifle is generating somewhere in the neighborhood of 18 foot pounds of recoil energy. My .375 H&H Mag out of a nine pound rifle generates around 37 foot pounds of recoil energy. The .50 BMG out of a 30 lb rifle generates 70 foot pounds of recoil... if Chuck Hawks math is right, reducing the rifle weight to 18 lbs should jack the energy up around 112 foot pounds of recoil.   Maybe they've got some innovations that'll cut this back, but "mild"? If that's mild I'd hate to see what they call heavy recoil.
  22. An 18 lb 50 BMG... that's gonna sting.
  23. +1 on the submariner. My father was a professional diver for many years (I've got pics of him in the old mkV) and he swore by his. I wear one every day and it is by far the best watch I've ever owned.
  24.   From your lips to God's ear. I'd even be glad to use a single shot rifle in .45-70. I only use black powder because it's better than archery and I only use archery cause it's better than not hunting.
  25. Fair enough, Omega. I do a lot of hunting in Africa so I tend to lean towards heavier calibers. The .270 has a great reputation, and I didn't realize it'd throw a 170gr bullet.... that puts it right up there with my .308. Still, I'm a big fan of 300gr bullets moving at 2700 fps out of a .375 H&H. Most animals drop to the shot... I'm getting old and tracking blood over hill and dale isn't as fun as it used to be. I like to hit em hard!
