  1.   I've been waiting for the opportunity to present itself.
  2.   Yeah, I ran into this the other day. The guy had obviously served and suffered injuries consistent with combat wounds... all the cred he ever needs as far as I'm concerned. But, for whatever reason he felt the need to present himself as a Marine Recon Sniper... ten minutes of conversation and I could tell he was full of *&%$. As soon as we started talking weapons, his lack of knowledge became evident. I didn't confront him though... he got the 'crazy eyes' when some of my questions hit a little close to home so I moved along. Sad really... I was enjoying talking with this guy... smart, patriotic... but for whatever reason he felt the need to inflate his service to brobdingnagian proportions.
  3. While, in principle, I like the ideas of LEO's having cameras going at all times I'm unclear on where the President has the constitutional authority to mandate their use to local departments. How, in the name of Thomas Jefferson, does the federal government get to dictate the specifics of what equipment state and local LEO's carry?
  4. huskqvarna +1. Great saw!
  5. I prefer some of the older NY hotels... I had a nice stay at the Roosevelt... just a couple  blocks off of Times Square.
  6. Gotta love this forum.
  7. Well, it's a taurus, so that's a nonstarter for me. That being said, it's interesting thinking... I don't really like it, but at least someone is trying something different.
  8. Good looking pooch!
  9. We use Bayers Seresto Flea and Tick Collar... works great. Same guys who make Advantix for whatever that's worth. You might also look at getting your carpets / dog bedding / etc. treated for flea infestation. We had a bad problem a few years back... as soon as we treated the carpet it went away.
  10. Yeah, not so much. All marketing hype: http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2014/02/daniel-zimmerman/g2-researchs-rip-ammo-ballistic-testing-phase-one/
  11. Cabelas with a gun range next door at the old movie theatre? Sounds like a good way to spend an afternoon to me. They'll get my business.
  12. Good looking 98. They are a lot of fun to shoot but be careful w/ imported ammo, a lot of the older stuff is corrosive.
  13. If you post a few pics, I expect we can have it identified in a matter of minutes.
  14. Kindle Paperwhite  +1. Just about the only way I read books now... great battery life, good memory... absolutely no complaints. I'll usually charge mine up before a trip and it's rare that I have to recharge it unless the trip is longer than a week. My wife uses the kindle fire and loves it... she reads, surfs and switches back and forth between the written version and the audible version of the book. Battery life isn't as good, but it's a full featured tablet as opposed to the dedicated reader.
  15. Dixie Gun Works has quite a few reproductions. http://www.dixiegun.com
  16. Welcome to TGO!
  17. Hunter's Den carries Elites... that's why I went up there. Liked the Matthews better. If you want to get one on the cheap, start watching craigslist. Archery season is coming to an end soon. I expect there will be quite a few bows available before long.
  18. Allen Thomas at Hunters Den Archery Shop in Russellville, Ky is a good man to talk to. They let me try damn near every bow in the shop before I settled on a Matthews. Great customer service and as far as I can tell it's one of the few places that lets you try before you buy.

    X-Bows

I went through a couple of bows before settling on excalibur. While they did the job just fine, I'd inevitably have to take it to the shop for one thing or another. Broken string, broken little plastic slidey bit, it was always something, and the only way to get it fixed was to take it to the shop. W/ the Excalibur, I keep a spare string in my pocket when I hunt w/ it. It's so simple I can change the string in 2 minutes and be back hunting in no time. For me, it's worth every penny. Now, that being said, the ONLY reason I use a bow is so I don't miss out on half of hunting season... I hate spending the money, but I hate not hunting even more.
  20. My understanding is that this is simply a return to pre-insanity sales patterns.
  21. Good looking knife. Perfect tool for scraping hides. I've got one that sees heavy use this time of year. Also damn handy in the kitchen for chopping.
  22. Done. If you aren't a member of TFA, you should be. Good organization fighting for your rights here in TN.

Any of their hunting bows will get the job done. Don't get hung up on speed... to my mind it's really not that important inside the 40 yd range.  I've got the 355 matrix and its bolts have blown clear through every deer I've shot, often cleanly shearing bone along the way.

Excalibur. Simple, easy to maintain and kills the ever loving stew out of a deer.
