  1. As long as I had my Iphone and could download survival apps I should be just fine.
  2. There is a formula on youtube for making ballistic gelatine using Knox gelatine from the supermarket if you want to see the expansion first hand. I have shot into the side of a 5 gallon bucket of water. The round should stay inside or close to the bucket although it will likely expand past actual gelatine expansion. And you cant use the bucket for much when your done.
  3. Don't have experience with the XD, but get a feel for the Glock 34 trigger. I think you will like it.
  4. I have a G22 Gen 4 and two Gen 3 Glocks. I'm not sure it's worth spending money to upgrade unless the Gen 3 grips are to large or too small. The backstrap on the Gen 4 is kind of flimsy for me. I have heard the two stage spring helps reduce recoil, but it's not substantial enough that I even notice. I only went Gen 4 because I was in the market for a Glock.
  5. I have been stopped 3 times for speeding while armed. I always hand over my permit and mention that I'm armed. Once I had an Arkansas officer come up on my passenger side window and when I told him I was armed he asked where it was. I popped open the glove box and he reached to get the pistol. He asked me to hand it to him, but I said I would rather he get it to prevent any misunderstanding. He took it back to his car and brought it back with the mag out and chambered round loose and just set it on the passenger seat. The second time the officer said "just don't touch it and we won't have any problems." And the third time the officer asked me to put it on the dashboard where he could see it. Two out of the three resulted in no ticket. Seems like there there is no real protocol it's just whatever makes the officer the most comfortable.
  6. The distances are 200, 300, and 400 yards, but they are not open yet. The only rifle distances we will have access to are 50 and 100 yards.
  7. Just wanted to let you guys know about a training course in Dickson, TN. You can contact Rick or Phil 615-446-5505 at Dickson Sportsman's Store to register. It's a 10 hour class that requires 500 rounds (reloads are allowed). The cost is $150 and you have to pre-register for the class. The class is offered by David Cole at the Dickson Police Firing Range. The class is this Saturday and there are still about 10 spots open. Denny Elliott is the instructor. He is a law enforcement officer and SWAT team member. He has written tactical weapon courses that are attended by SWAT team members throughout the U.S. and Canada. He is currently a sniper and training officer with a Middle Tennessee Sheriff's office. I will be there along with a few shooting buddies. I'll let you guys know how it goes.
  8. That's a great point! You don't want to be "that guy" mooching off of other members and their sweet toys. If you want to shoot somebodies firearm, bring ammo in that caliber. Remember you can't buy anything at the range. You will need to have all your ammo, targets, eye/ear protection and clay pigeons (if you plan to shoot skeet) with you when you get there. The only targets that can be shot at the range are paper and clay pigeons.
  9. Are you going to leave us in suspense? Whats the new toy?
  10. Machine guns are allowed, but only in the pistol pit. The rifle range is 50/ 100 yards and there is a new section that goes out to 400 yards on the private side behind Charlies house.
  11. Great. Looks like it's on. Let me get your opinions on grilling. Im thinking keep it simple with hot dogs and chips. What do you guys think. I can bring the dogs if we can get volunteers to bring the other stuff.
  12. I would use this as an excuse to buy another AR. I'm always looking for an excuse.
  13. I have been very happy with my Eotech. It really does make target acquisition very fast. Takes me a few seconds to get it turned on though which might make it a little slow for a SHTF senario. If you keep it on you will run through batteries. I think the battery life for the N battey models is 1000 continuous hours.
  14. I have the same problem with my Lone Wolfe G35 conversion barrel. I think it has to do with the top part of the barrel/ chamber coming in contact with the slide as it comes reward taking some of the energy needed to fully eject. Happens about 1 out of 100. I think one percent is good enough for a target setup. I have an Insight Technology M6 tac light that has had no more or less malfuntions when it's mounted.
  15. I would consider it for $135, tough to spend $250 plus for the beta mag though.
  16. Sabre is on my list. Great rifle at a great price.

    Ar-15 Questions

+1 on the S&W Optics Ready. I bought mine based on the same chart. S&W has a $100 rebate out right now too.
  18. I have seen some guys asking about a shoot at Owl Hollow. Let's make it happen before the winter gets the best of us. October 30th 11am -2pm let's meet at Owl Hollow just south of Franklin. I have reserved the private side of the range and we will have it to ourselves. We can shoot pistol, skeet, and rifle on that side. There is a grill on site if we want to cook some hot dogs or something. The cost is $5 per person for nonmembers, members of Owl Hollow are free. The cost of membership is $40 per year and well worth it. Edit 10/27The weather looks to be perfect for Saturday! We need a few folding tables to hold all the weapons. If you can bring one just throw it in. I'll have a table setup for name tags and collecting your 5 bucks. Try to bring exact change to make it a little easier. We will have a safety briefing at 11am, if your running a few minutes late we can fill you in when you get there. You still have a few days to stock up on ammo, targets, and clay pigeons. Just remember nothing is for sale at the range and unfortunately no pumpkins, just clay and paper targets. The range address is 2795 Owl Hollow Rd, Franklin, TN. Pull down the drive and behind the log cabin style home. If you think you might have trouble finding it, just PM me and I'll give you my cell.
  19. Owl Hollow has a new 400 yard range. Not sure if it's complete yet. They have a private range that can be reserved by members and it's available Oct 30th.
  20. Go to http://www.gssfonline.com/GSSF_Pistol_Purchase_Program_Information.pdf for detailed info. Got my last G22 for $476 out the door.
  21. One plus for Glocks is the GSSF purchase program. Join GSSF for $35 and get 1 Glock per year for below dealer cost. A G22 is $425. I wouldn't let mag preference steer me away from a gun I love though. It's all about what fits you and what you can feel comfortable with. For me it's always a Glock.
  22. I've been selling 9mm for $25/1000, .40 for $40/1000, and .45 for $70/1000. I'm sold out on .45.
  23. Take a trip up to The Academy of Self Protection in Joelton. It's only about 40 min from Franklin. They have a great selection of rentals for around $8. They used to let you pay the $8 and have one gun at a time to shoot as many as you want. I do remember some XDs, lots of Glocks, M&Ps, no sigs or H&K though. I have a few glocks (35,34, 26), a USP-C, or a Ruger GP100 if you want to meet me at the range sometime to have her give them a try. I'm in Franklin too. My wife loves the GP100 loaded with .38 special. Large frame brings down the recoil, nothing to smash her left thumb, no shell to hit her in the head. If you do go with an auto, you might try to get a laser light combo for the dead of night. Makes me feel a little more sure of my shot at 2am.

    GSG AK47

Took my GSG-5 to the range last week for the first time. I'm impressed with the quality. I haven't decided on a scope yet, so I just used the irons. I shot about 200 rounds of Remington Thunderbolt no misfires. I had 4 misfires out of about 250 Federal bulk ammo (this ammo was about 2 years old). No bench test, but I was impressed with the accuracy. Turns out airsoft components fit the gun to save a few bucks on optics, stocks, etc. Overall
  25. Hey I'm Jacob from Franklin new to TGO. I'm 30 and been shooting for most of that. I met some guys at Owl Hollow last week and finally logged on to check it out.
