  1. Welcome and take at look in the gatherings section to meet just south of Nashville at the Owl Hollow gun range his month.
  2. That's what I was thinking. Might just get a 9mm AR upper and suppressor. So I can use it on a full sized and compact pistol or a carbine.
  3. Which would be more handy if you can only have one in a survival situation?
  4. According to Wikipedia the shelf life is 3 years. I'm certain you can eat them after that, 3 years is the reccomended shelf life. We have come up with a plan. Let me know what you think. We will have 1 case of MREs that can be eaten cold or heated without fire. We'll Have the majority of food in the Mountain House FD food and put away rice and beans as well. Our reasoning is the MREs can be eaten without fire if we had to. The freeze dried can be used with a minimal amount of water on hand and the rice and beans will be the one that uses the most resources to prepare (pot, water, and a fire). I think having a three pronged aproach will make us ready for more situations. Still working on water storage and have decided to use 2 liter bottles and 5 gallon water jugs if we can find them. On a side note, we tried our first freeze dried Mountain House last night and were satisfied we could live on it if we had to.
  5. If you have a firearm to sell bring it and let folks see it. I know it's tough to sell anything these days. I'll setup a table to put for sale items on.
  6. Thanks for all the suggestions. I wish I had tried Walmart for Mountain House, but it already shipped and should be here in a few days. Any suggestions on a solid water purifier? I know that will greatly increase the water supply if things are really bad. Is there one brand or method of purification that is better than another.
  7. I would suggest small targets for the private side. With so many shooters we will need to share backboards. There are lots of sites to print targets. I'll be on the lookout for zombie printable targets and post a link.
  8. I have not heard good things about the flavor of freeze dried stuff. I'm also doing the math and the stuff I have seen breaks out to $5 per meal per person. $60 per day for 3 meals seams steep to me. Took a look at Mountain House and ordered 4 packets to try it. Seems like the prices are a little better than I have seen. 30 year shelf life does make more sense than 2-5 year shelf life. I'll let you know what we think. Good tip on jerky. I'll look into that.
  9. The wife and I have been talking about getting a 1 month food and water supply. What is the best way to store water? I'm thinking some 5 gallon water cooler jugs in the attic should do it. How many would we need for two adults and two kids? If we do bulk rice and beans, what is a good protien that will keep for a long time and not have the words freeze dried in the name?
  10. Charlie is the coolest guy. My church shoots out there about once a month and he doesn't charge anything. He is as nice as a guy can be.
  11. Take a look at a GSG5 my wife loves mine.
  12. I would go with an AR15 platform for my first .223. You can make it look and feel however you want. There are endless options for it. Can't go wrong with the SCAR though.
  13. I have a 25 inch 870. Just figured it's comfortable at the range and can still be used around the house when all the Glocks, AK, and both ARs run out of ammo.
  14. Got the pics yet? Just ordered my stripped Spikes lower and Daniel Defense parts kit. Won't ship till monday, but I hear great things about them.
  15. The package is away. USPS says guardlobo will have it Saturday. I held the box about 14 hours. I think if we can keep it moving more people benefit. The contents still fit in the $10.70 one rate box FYI.

  17. That is correct. Turn down the drive marked 2795 Owl Hollow Rd. If you are coming from Lewisburg Pike it's the first drive on the left before the main range.
  18. I have some name tags I will throw in. Very excited that so many folks want to be a part of this. Looking forward to it.
  19. I'll tak it. Let me know when and where to meet.
  20. I was at an advanced pistol class this weekend and of the 11 guns 5 were XDs. The only guns I saw jam were all 5 XDs. There was a Ruger P89, a few Glocks, and even a S&W Sigma that ran better than any of the 5 XDs. If you want a malfunction in the heat of battle go with the XD.
  21. I just sold a USP Compact and went straight Glock. Loved the USPc, but I like the feel of the Glock better. On a side note I was at an advanced pistol class Saturday and of the 11 students 5 had XDs in one form or another. All 5 had malfuntions with two having several malfuntions and stovepipes. We only shot 500 rounds and at around 300 or so one guy with a full size had one malfuntion per mag for the rest of the day. He was pretty annoyed. Never had any experience with them, but it will never be my choice for a carry gun.
  22. There is the Cheatham County Game reserve range in Ashland City. It's a very open range with no RO. That can be good and bad. Lots of folks don't like to shoot there because it seems to attract the shooting communities worst shooters in terms of safety and respect for others. I have taken groups there without incident, but I have heard stories about that place that don't sit well with me.
  23. The class was great. My thumb is still sore from reloading mags. Great instruction organized in a consise way to take us from basics to advanced shooting in one day. Safety was spot on and I hear Denny is putting together a carbine course in the spring. The guys at Cole Personal safety have a great range setup. Check them out for your CCW class.
  24. No need for charcoal, we have a gas grill on site and I will bring extra gas. Thanks for bringing some food. We will need more volunteers for this to work. Can we have more volunteers for buns and drinks? Let's do can drinks and bottled water so we don't have to worry about cups.
  25. The address is 2795 Old Hollow Rd, Franklin TN. The range is next to this address, but we will be driving down the driveway of 2795 Owl Hollow Rd. This is the private side of the range behind Charley Haffner's house. Go past the log cabin style home and we will be in the rear.
