I have the CMMG stainless conversion that has worked pretty well with Federal. I think I paid $130 on TGO with 2 25 round mags. I am considering a dedicated upper, but the CMMG works so well I will likely just get a 1/12 threaded barrel and keep the bolt.

Looks like a fun Christmas.

Surprise, Surprise! DHS is Starting to Spy on Social Media!
bigwakes replied to Moped's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
It always seems the liberals never have to follow the request for information act. From birth certificates, to Fast and Furious, to this. They should all be put in jail for not conforming to the law. The RFI act should of held a 10 year minimum sentence for noncompliance. -
That finish looks great! Congrats!

For optics I really like an Eotech. I have a Leupold Mark AR 3-9x40 that is very sweet.

I still have a lonely lower from my last batch of lowers, but this is very tempting.

I'm with Steelharp on the LCR trigger. Took my wife to Guns & Leather to pull as many snubbie triggers as possible. She wanted hammerless which put us at DA only pistols. There were some S&Ws she could not even pull. The LCR was the best trigger available in that class of firearm. This was prior to the S&W Bodyguard which I suspect has a similar trigger. Ruger did a good job on the recoil reducing grips too. You can really tell a difference on +P ammo. It is however not a fun gun at the range. The wife still prefers her 4" GP100 as a range toy.

I got a couple shirts and a pair of winter gloves from the kids and the wife got me a Saiga 12 that shipped out Friday.

He does, but it's good range etiquette to not shoot holes in the backerboards with a shotgun. Just shoot clays on the berm or throw clays with his thrower at the range behind his house.

Ron Paul is in The Fight of His Life, We Must Stand With Him!

But when his foreign policy is to abandon our allies and put our head in the sand than none of his other views matter. He is not what this nation needs. -
This news guy is a dimwit. There is nobody on bsnbc that can get Ron Paul nominated no matter how nice they think he is.

Looks sweet. Let me know how it shoots. A buddy of mine has been itching for one.

Is this a search and is it legal?
bigwakes replied to chances R's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I'm not sure they are looking for felons as much as someone up to no good or something to alleviate the boredom that comes with sitting in a patrol car for 8-10 hours. I'm certain they know they are dealing with a felon the moment they enter the plate number in their nifty computer before ever stepping out of the vehicle. -
Is this a search and is it legal?

There was an entire post on this subject a while back and a guy said he had a family member agree to a search by some cops. The person was on their way to a shop to have a baby spoon mounted on a plaque or something and the cops discovered the spoon that resemble a cook spoon for drugs. The person was charged with parafinalia before the charges were dropped. I don't think I'll ever consent to a search based on that alone. If the cops are on a one track mind to find something how easy is it to have something misinterpreted? -

My understanding is the officer needs permission or reasonable cause to search a vehicle. I'm guessing reasonable cause could include admission of a weapon. I have never had a cop search for a weapon on a traffic stop. One guy aproached from the passenger side and asked where the weapon was. It was in the glove box so I opened it and he asked me to hand it to him. I said I would rather not handle it and he took it back to his car. Brought it back with the slide open, mag out and chamber round loose. Complimented me on the USP Compact and said had a good night. Another officer had me place the pistol on the dashboard and not touch it. A third traffic stop the pistol was in my waistband and the officer said don't touch yours and I won't touch mine. I thought it was kind of an ahole way to put it, but understood. I guess every officer has a little different way of handling things that make them feel safe. I'm not sure that there is even a department protocol for this sort of thing. As long as the officer feels safe and doesn't inconvenience me for too long or confinscate my weapon I'm ok with it. -
I have told this story about 20 times on this board, but I think it's relavant once again. I was in LA during the riots from the Rodney King BS back in the early 90's. We lived in an apartment complex and we didn't go to school, dad didn't go to work, we just holed up in the house waiting for the cops to take control of the cities again. We heard some commotion in the alley behind the apartment and my dad started calling men in the building that he thought might have firearms. My dad had a .22 single shot bolt action rifle and a .25 auto pocket pistol. One neighbor had a Colt .22 ar15 and another guy had a rifle I think was a .22 as well. They went out the back door after we could see the glow of fire out the back window. I had my window open listening for gun shots or a fight and all I her was "don't shoot, don't shoot, we'll put it out." A group of guys set fire to a couch and a dumpster behind the building. They were so scared at the sight of a weapon they actually put out both fires before running of like children. This was the one experience in my life to cause me to always have a firearm for defense. 2 weeks before my 21st birthday I took my permit class. The day I turned 21 my girlfriend (now my wife) bought me a Ruger P95 and I applied for my carry permit. I might also add I was living in Memphis at the time, so that was part of my urgency.

Me? No. I hope to God I never need it, but I bet these people wish they had theirs: family killed by gunman - Google Search I just got the American Rifleman Magazine and every month they list 8-10 stories of citizens defending themselves against armed robbery, car jacking, home invasion, and rape. The only thing every story has in common is a BG being shot, shot at, or held for police while having a gun pointed at them. It's too easy not to have a permit!

The link is for manual APROVALS not a manual.

Seems like there is some hope then. I'll be lOoking to shoot one before I purchase. Also gonna wait till the bugs get worked out. I'm guessing the handfull that have been reviewed were test fired and checked carefully at the factory. Keltec doesn't have an amazing reputation for quality on a full production scale. I hope I'm wrong or Ruger starts making a similar rig.

The issue with lead come into play on polygonal rifling. It does not have the standard lands and grooves that most pistol use. The grooves are a very handy place for lead fouling to collect. In polygonal rifling there are no such grooves to collect the small amount of lead that is scraped off inside the barrel. The fear is that the lead would build up in the barrel making it slightly smaller over time until the barrel has too much pressure and destroys the barrel, gun, and potentially any noses within 2 feet or so. I have shot with plenty of shooters that shoot lead in Glocks and report tens of thousands of rounds without issue. I tend to lean on the side of caution and only shoot lead or any reloads in my nonfactory Glock barrels that have lands and grooves.

If the ammo can't even reliably cycle through the gun with just pulling the slide I'm gonna say it has to be the ammo. I try to buy only Federal, but found a good deal on blazer brass and bought a case of .40.

Need a Cannon Safe Drilled. Any suggestions?

Is it too late to have a "break in" so it would be warrantied? I'm certain you can call some locksmiths and one of them should know who has that skill set. Might had to post his bail though. Good luck. -
Road Rage involving Oak Ridge officers in Knoxville
bigwakes replied to chances R's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I had an opportunity to ask an assistant district attorney this very question. He squirmed a little but never really gave me a straight answer. He did say in his view a broken arm or concusion could be considered bodily harm, but the rest would need to be addressed case by case. He did say that if the bad guy made an attempt to get my weapon it was legal to use deadly force to prevent the BG from taking it. He also said that in his eyes a carjacking was justified in deadly force because the unarmed guy would then be armed with your vehicle and it was assumed to be a violent situation to begin with. He also said that it's very unlikely he would take someone to trial that he truly believed was using a weapon to stop or prevent a crime. He did caution me that not all DA's see eye to eye on that one. This conversation took place at the Williamson County free firearms training that they offer a few times a year. The last day the DA or his assistant comes in to explain TN law and answer questions. -
