Ok, so now what? Three states, three different winners.
bigwakes replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
My vote is for Newt and it comes down to morals over politics. Has he done some wrong in his life? Yes, but who hasn't? Enough is said about Romney in the first 60 seconds of this video! Whoever the nominee is we MUST vote for them. We cannot afford another 4 years of what we have! Can we all agree on that? -
My wife carries an LCR and I had toyed around with the idea of the .22.

If an item has been taken out of the package and replaced undamaged it's a new product. We are not talking about collectible GI Joe dolls that drop 50% when the package tape is cut. I always tell someone how much use a product has and I would have said it was mounted, but if the items is mounted and repackaged wihout a scratch, it's a new product.

I just wish we were not sending traffic to his site. I tried, but could not resist to see what he put on the forms. I'm surprised the business license was approved. I had a similar idea, but was told by the fire marshall that Williamson County does not allow in home FFLs period. The only ones out there were grandfathered in before the county wide ban, but he could not tell me when that went into affect.

Permit class in or around Franklin, TN?
bigwakes replied to brent_strong's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I took a group from church to Jim's class. My wife went because she let her permit expire and Jim let me sit in on the class for free since I brought so many students. This was my third permit class. Once when I got mine, the second was from the Goodletesville Gun shop the first time my wife got her permit, and then Jim's. GGS treated my wife like a child. She was taking the class with a Ruger GP100 and the instructor made all the women folk load one round at a time for all 50 rounds and took the women off to another part of the range to give them "special instruction" as if no woman could be proficient with a firearm! This was a large group I put together from work and some guys brought there wives. Non of the wives felt like it was a very good experience. Now this was about 6 years ago so things may have changed. Jim Mauth however was completely professional even to the ladies. He did have all the ladies shoot in the middle with guys on the outside so his instructors could see how they were on safety and wisely made sure the spouses were not next to their husbands because he wanted himself and his instructors, not husbands, giving input. Jim and his guys were very encouraging and instantly saw that my wife was one of the better shooters and held up her paper to show she shot better than nearly every guy. It was a great experience and most of all my wife felt respected during the experience. -
I think the OP was asking about a good option, not if I had to could I. I would stick to your original plan of a 12 gauge, but get the pistol first. It's a good option when the 12 is not available. You can also get a SAIGA 12 gauge in the $500 price range that is semi auto with plenty of reliability in a high brass defensive round.

.410 would never be my go to caliber in a defensive situation. If it was defense against bunnies or snakes sure, but you need a manly caliber to stop a man. The short barrel on the judge makes the ballistics of .410 shot even worse not to mention the rifling causes unpredictable and less than ideal shot patterns. I have a Remington 870 25" barrel that I added a 3 rounder extended to. I use it for skeet and would use it for home defense if I could keep it out of the kids hands easier. My go to home defense gun is a Glock 22 .40 caliber because it's effective, easy to keep in a safe and access quickly, and I have 45 rounds at my nearly instant disposal with a couple quick mag changes. Try loading a wheel gun in the dark.

I have a G22 in a bedside safe with an M6 light/ laser. I understand the argument for working with a separate light, but I just don't want to be fumbling for a light in the dark while trying to identify a target. My light also has a momentary switch that can be activated by your left thumb without adjusting your grip. I have 8 mags for the 22 and checked the 2 next to the bed. One has a 5 and the other a 6. The pistol is a Gen 4. I have never had an issue with the light, but only practice with a light a few times a year. I need to make sure all my mags run flawless. Any that don't will be replaced. I did put blue base plates on all my 9mm mags to identify them in the range bag quickly. You could buy a $1 base plate in blue or orange for the bad mag, but I think I would just get rid of it.

The answer to "looking for a pistol" is always a Glock. I would start her with a G19 unless she intends to carry. If she wants to carry then the 26 is a very comfortable shooter as well.

Mother shoots intruder in OK
bigwakes replied to RobertNashville's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Is it just me or did her husband look about 40? -
I have heard you can haggle a bit especially if you know where to get it cheaper. I bought a GSG5 a few years ago. FGS had it for $599 I called around and found it at The Reloaders Bench for $499. It was the exact same model. I didn't even ask FGS to come down. I would rather support a shop with reasonable prices anyway. I have purchased a shotgun that I "had to have" and noone else locally had it in stock.

It won't be magnetic shift or the Mayan calendar that ends things. It will be Obama and his minions!

I think journalism as a whole is going down hill fast. My 5 year old could tell a better, more organized story. Looks like the officer shot both men on the ground fighting with each other right? IF the federal agent had fataly wounded the robber why would he be wrestling him. Sounds like there should be more details the AP should have included.

I have not hunted since I was in high school. I just bought a Remington 700, a camo jacket, some deer pee, and headed to the woods on my cousins property. Didn't see anything my first time out, but I'll go back.

Glad to hear that's not true. Steph is a low 6 and I can't believe people make such a big deal about her. I think RJF does try to do some innovative stuff, but what's left to be done? I think they should handle things like American Guns does and just say "we have the prints and parts ordered now we will manufacturer the frame or whatever component needed." RJF did create the first suppressed shotgun and integrally suppressed AK that I am aware of.

The GP100 is a great gun. I have never noticed any grit on the double action pull.

Tennessean writing about CCW reciprocity laws
bigwakes replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Not a good idea! Your assuming the person asnwering the phone is an expert on the law or is the officer you will be dealing with if your given bad information. You need to read the actual law or Q&A for the state website. Not a bad idea to take a copy with you too. While I agree the lady was in the wrong she had no intention of committing a crime. That's rarely considered when the legal system is out to prove a point. If NYC takes this too far it will just help to prove the point that a national CCW law is in order. I'm not too sure how NYC has gotten away so long with ignoring the second amendment anyway. -
Xbox too. I try to get all the newest games as quick as possible and become an elitist.

I can shooT 3" groups at ten yards with my eyes closed with my Glock 27.

I had one and sold it in about 6 months. It was fun, but expensive to shoot. People talk about using .410 for defense, but the pellets don't have much penetration. It was kind of cool to put 3 .38 caliber holes in a target, but it got old fast.

This is the only site I have paid for membership on for hobbies. If you have ever needed to sell something gun related this is the place! There is a great group of honest trustworthy folks who make this a great community. I have been a benefactor for many years and personally feel it's a great price for what you get.
