food grade steel drums in middle TN?
bigwakes replied to broylz's topic in Survival and Preparedness
Monchellas Williams was the contact for selling barrels from the Coke factory in Nashville. I just spoke to her and she said they stopped selling barrels to the public 3 years ago. -
Someone on another thread said the Coke factory in Nashville sells syrup barrels for $7. It's not worth it to take a chance. If you get them for free start selling them on CL to fund buying food grade barrels.

I would get Breech Lock Hand Press and a used set of dies somewhere and your rounds will look as good as any. And to deactivate the primer I would use WD-40. Safety Points You can buy cases at a local outdoor range near me for $3 per pound, but I'm certain you can just wonder around a range and find more than you could ever need. I would try this at indoor ranges that allow rifle fire. Outdoor ranges would take an extra step to clean mud and dirt from the case. If you are a shooter though, problem solved and if you don't own an AR then this is the best reason I have heard yet to get one. Post some pics when you get something finished.

Anti-gun protest at Starbucks on Valentine's Day
bigwakes replied to LagerHead's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I think just because Starbucks has not banned weapons doesn't mean that if we scare off the few customers that will be there that day with a pistol on our hips that they won't. I would say Starbucks is not "pro-gun", but more of a don't rock the boat in this crappy economy kind of company. If we open carry it might send stories to corperate that it might just be worth rocking the boat in any economy. Let's keep it in our pants people. Following the link I see that the protest is not a 1 day protest. It starts Feb. 14th and continues until Starbucks bans guns and asault weapons in their stores (I know sounds like a joke right?) http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/starbucks-pro-gun-policy-prompts-gun-victims-advocate-group-to-launch-nationwide-boycott-on-valentines-day-2012-137890863.html Following a link to the boycott site: http://gunvictimsaction.org/starbucks-boycott/ I find this gem: Glock 19s must be like Mad Max going all crazy and crap. My point is we might need to be prepared to buy more than one cup of coffee to have any impact here. -
I actually have a degree in networking and feel like I can set it up. Looking at the spot for the camera I could just as easily install a Cat5 cable as extend power up to the mounting point.

Sorry, I was on an Iphone that tends not to get along with Adobe products and prevents selection in most PDFs. Not it's only limitation, but my least favorite. This is on page 27 of the file, but page number 17 of the document with a heading of "Gun Shows and the Diversion of Firearms." They don't specify the stats between private sale and FFL sales just "gun show sales." Any sale that is not from a private individual is transferred from an FFL that likely has a shop somewhere and is held to all the same standards as selling at his store. The largest thing they mention is straw purchases where an individual passes a background check and gives or sells the firearm to a third party. The difference is they intended to purchase the weapon for that person when they bought the gun. This practice is already illegal and would not be changed with new legislation.
-
I saw those statistics too, but left them out after going to the source here: http://www.mayorsagainstillegalguns.org/downloads/pdf/Following_the_Gun%202000.pdf On page 27 of this 71 page document it states very clearly that private sales at gun shows were not tracked since it's nearly impossible to track the sale without a paper trail. Since I was trying to stay on topic with our discussion of private sales I felt that study was irrelevant. Am I off base in making that assumption with the given information that private sales were not included in the study?

I'm with you on this one brother, but unfortunately we do have parents that are not responsible with their guns and legislatures seem to think they can help things like this Three-Year-Old Boy Dies After Shooting Himself With His Cop Dad's Gun. So Devastating. to never happen again.
-
I think when statistics are valuable they are used to bring home a point, unless of coures the statistics don't make the point you are looking for. For instance I found these interesting FACTS on Wikipedia with links to actual studies: Gun shows in the United States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Which states: I'm certain Wiki is probably not the best source for quoting in an article, but why not go to their source and quote our government's own study with some actual facts? I understand the concept of using differing opinions on a subject, but actual facts can and should be reported with the opinions... of course this is just my opinion.

another biased anti gun hut piece from al jaretessean
bigwakes replied to 1pointofview's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
It's available, but they must have moved it from the old link. Most likely to cause confusion and histeria! TN gun laws, or lack thereof, under attack | The Tennessean | tennessean.com -
I found this: http://www.hunter.cuny.edu/socwork/nrcfcpp/downloads/policy-issues/Firearms_in_Foster_Homes.pdf Which states this: This information was last updated in 2005, but I suspect there has not been a change. I think as others have said as long as you are careful I'm not sure they would ever check.

Thoughts on private sale background checks
bigwakes replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in General Chat
That's the key. Except for an uniformed few like the Brady bunch, they know the DOJ is responsible for far more criminals buying guns than private sales are. It's not about stopping criminals, who any slightly inteligent person knows will get a gun if they want it bad enough, it's about tracking sales and taxing those sales for revinue. -
Your right, illegal was the wrong words. I guess I should have said it should be the journalists moral responsibility to not mislead the reader. I tried a test on my wife, a gun owner, and had her read the article. I asked where she thought Loughner and the VA Tech shooter got their weapons and she said she assumed they were purchased illegally from the last statement.
-
Your article reminds me of a girl I once knew that would write cards and letters from phrases in a magazine. She would cut out the words and glue them to paper. The thing is, she already knew what she wanted to say before she started finding the right words. I get the opinion that's how journalism is today. We can print whatever we want as long as it's a quote from someone else we are immune to what we print. You decided to close your article with a quote that made the reader be fearful of another massacre. I don't know or care who Glaze is, but you sir made the choice to print a quote that has nothing to do with the topic of private gun sales. You could have just as easily ended the story with all the puppies that killed in southeast Asia. It has NOTHING to do with the story, but does envoke fear to the reader.
-
How about ending your article with: Implying that Loughner and the Virginia Tech shooter somehow purchased their weapons from a gun show or private sale. Both of those criminals legally purchased their weapons and you have intentionally implied that they were purchased illegally. You sir are not a journalist, it should be illegal to mislead people this way. Unfortunately it's not criminal to spue the crap that I continually see from the Tennessean.

Ok, so now what? Three states, three different winners.
bigwakes replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
That seems to be effective and in my opinion warranted. That's why I like him so much, he is a fighter and is not afraid to tell someone to get out of his face. That's what we are missing with all the wussy republicans we have. -
Questions on which pistol and shotgun for 3 gun
bigwakes replied to a topic in Competitive Shooting Sports
The Glock 34 has an extended slide release, and mag release. About 60% of competition shooters are using the 34. I have used a Remington 870 with pretty good results in 3 gun. It's also a pretty popular model for 3 gun. You can step it up to an 1100 tactical or the latest craze SAIGA 12. The SAIGA will be my 3 gun shotgun once I get it running a little smoother. -
So can you suggest a wireless IP night vision camera that would be suitable for home use in the $200 range? I need the video to be as good as possible and need about a 50 ft range on the IR.

Can I suggest that we no longer help Brian with his liberal crap and let him write his opinions without our help? His story was written long before the 14 page thread was ever started. There have been very few stories that have made me as angry as that one. Way to go Brian.
