  1. I love mine and highly recommend it. I have owned many Glocks and I feel like the XD is as accurate and better ergonomically (for me anyway........don't want to start war with the Glock guys or anything......). I was very surprised at how accurate a 3" sidearm can be...............almost as accurate as the full size. Keep in mind that this is not a pocket gun in my opinion (thickness and weight issue)...........if you are looking for something to carrry in your pocket then look at the Ruger LCP or something along that lines or buy both .
  2. Just wanted to let everyone in the Blount County area know about a new toy story that opened a few weeks ago in Midland Plaza (on the Rush end). I spoke with Bill (I guess?) and he seemed like he was going to be a very easy person to deal with. He did advise me that his transfer fee for guns would only be $20 plus a $10 background fee and that there will be breaks on multiple purchases. He has not recieved his FFL yet but he said it should be anyday at which point he will then stock with firearms. The good thing is he also stocks a wide variety of fishing supplies for those of us who like to fish. I thought the local guys would like to know about another store to spend the play money or she money whichever the case may be.
  3. I have a target model of which I just got to shoot for the first time yesterday. This is a heavy gun and is really for bench shooting. I shot 10 shot groups over and over under the size of a quarter at 25 yards...................I was at an indoor range so I have not been able to shoot any longer distances. I really like my target model but I do look to invest in the CZ 452 or Savage BTVS in the future. I think you would be happy with the accuracy unless you are hardcore and then if so then you should possibly get a bolt gun. Budsgunshop.com has the stainless for $398. Good luck.............there is so many different ways to go when buying a rimfire............I have started buying different rimfire guns because they are accurate, fun and a so much cheaper to shoot than my high power stuff.
  4. I have hunted with both and killed with both. I currently have the 7mm and I know you may not need the extra "knock down" and that we can kill with the .223 but it would be nice to have when "Big Boy" comes walking out. The attached link has the rifle trajectory table that may help you decide (the 7mm has the better MPBR and more energy). You can't go wrong with either so if you were to run across a used 30-06 in a deal I would not hesitate to get it. Rifle Trajectory Table
  5. That's just great!!
  6. Welcome........and again always nice to have another local.
  7. Congrats on your new rifle purchase. If you have never done any deer hunting then don't. You will get hooked and spend more money than you can ever imagine on hunting gear............almost as expensive as collecting guns. But seriously my hunting partner has killed more deer in McMinn and Meigs County than anyone I know and almost all have been killed with you guessed it a .30-30 with open sites!! I don't think that he has killed any at 100 yards with that gun though. With that said me and my buddies were just talking the other day and between the 4 of us the question was brought up "have we ever killed at 100 yards or more". Between the 4 of us only 1 had killed at more than 100 yards and that was in West TN. We all have killed many deer but none at more than 100 yards. Don't get me wrong I can see getting 100 yard plus shots but the odds are around here of it being less. I have the oppotunity to shoot at well over 100 yard but I did not feel confident (my fault). Good luck on hunting and you we see why it is addicting......during your first deer sighting and kill shot you will experience something that I think will get you hooked. Sorry for rambling.......but to answer your question........I always steady my gun on my treestand or prop up on a tree. I still look for that confident long shot but haven't really had many opportunities where I hunt.
  8. Glad to see more Blount County members joining...........welcome!! You will enjoy this place..............many knowledgeable folks on here............
  9. Thanks to all for the advice..........In the past I have used my old Walmart kit and that is not going to cut it anymore............... I do not want to screw up any of my rifles. I will be taking the advice and buying nice equipment including the bore guides as suggested (1 rifle is benchrest only).
  10. I have purchased a couple rifles of which I would like to take great care off for accuracy purposes. I have 2 or 3 walmart special 3 pc rod kits that I don't trust. What is the best bang for the buck rod that I can purchase and where? I have seen the Bore Tech and it looks nice. Any other advice such as complete kits would be helpful as well. Thanks to all.
  11. My class was 6 @ 3, 6 @ 7, 6 @ 15, and the remainder of the total 48 rounds at 3.
  12. Sounds like you are in trouble............good luck!!!!
  13. Welcome to TGO!! Yes, you can shoot a .22lr for qualification.......I took my class today and several used a .22lr. I hate to hear about your future lay-off but enjoy your divorce as much as possible and stock up on your toys before you get hitched again .....just kidding (not really about enjoying the single life). As for your addiction.........please go buy 2 firearms and PM me in the morning .
  14. :D........Well the Avatar is not me and Jess is my wife (Warden). I log on to TGO often and her picture just seems to put a smile on my face...............thanks for the compliment now if I can get her shooting as good as she looks I will have the total package :D
  15. I wanted to let everyone in the Sevier County area know about Sevierindoorrange.com. I went there for the first time today and was absolutely amazed!!!! This is by FAR the best range I have shot at to date. The facility is first class all the way and the employees/owners are very nice and could not be any easier to deal with. If I lived closer I would be visiting there more often than I could afford.............so it is good in a way that I don't live very close. They have an lounge area with you guessed it free coffee.............very good selection of guns that seemed to be priced right. The ammo is priced really good for a range. I sound like a spokesperson for them so I will stop. One more thing........did I say how impressed I was with this place.......sorry had to tell you.
  16. I want to clarify.........I have hunted TVA property. I did not mean to make it sound like that it is public land.............but they do allow hunting...so why not target shooting??
  17. I totally agree! I called my local TWRA last week and asked the exact same question. He told me that there was no public land to shoot on around me here in Blount County. The funny thing is that there is plenty TVA property and Goverment land around here. He told me to go to Gunny's indoor range or an outdoor range in Knoxville. I don't get it.........we should be allowed on public land but I must add we should respect all hunters and work around them during season. I have to go to my relatives house 45-55 minutes away to get a 100 yard shot. I am sure you will have many Pro responders.
  18. Ditto. I had these on a Kimber of which I was shooting paper. They are not a good site for the target shooter but would be excellant for carry guns.
  19. Sorry guys. I have heard through the grapevine they changed the rules after my 5 gun purchase. I guess it was to much paperwork??
  20. Welcome!! Another local is always good. Don't have to travel as far for possible transactions.......
  21. Anyone have any idea what a Remington VSSF 22-250 may be worth? The gun is like new, has a Leupold Vari-x III scope, and has only been shot 150 times. The new VSSF II sales for over a $1000.
  22. I would have to go with a Colt Combat Commander. It was my very first pistol and sidearm of which I only paid $325 for back in 1990 from my Captain. I eventually fell into Glock envy and the rest was over. I sold it for what I had in it not knowing what I really had. I looked it up on Gunbroker recently to see them selling for $1000 and up! You live and learn through growing older...........we do crazy stuff when we are young.
  23. Very interested. I have one and all the information you provided in your link was very helpful. Thanks!
  24. I didn't really even think about all the mountains I posted. After futher review I would have to agree and say the mountains are nice around Blount County.....I like them a bunch.........
  25. Thanks man....I know... she is a keeper!
