  1. I was going to go, but then I found out that there will be a Jeffersons marathon on TV, which I think is way more important.
  2. You can take the class with any handgun. It doesn't have to be the on eyou plan to carry. Find and borrow a friend's handgun with a more readily available round. Heck, you can even bring a .22 if you want. In fact, my class rented out .22's for the test if you didn't have a gun.
  3. For a small town like Oak Ridge, it's a way to make money almost entirely off the backs of it's citizens. In larger towns like Knoxville, you have lots of out of towners that may be unfamiliar with the intersections. You ticket them, and it doesn't piss of the people that do the electing of the local officials. Now, Oak Ridge has a serious problem with not being able to attract out of towners for shopping, restaurants, etc. If you live half way between Oak Ridge and another town without cameras, where you going to go? Most likely the other way, especially if you or someone you know got a ticket. Then what I think will happen is most locals will know where the cameras are, and either avoid the intersection, or just be very careful when traveling through. So you end up will limited revenue from the cameras, and no out of town retail traffic, which means less sales tax revenue. That means raised taxes for local citizens again! As far as running red lights, I never do it. What really concerns me though is the Yahoo in front of me that got ticketed recently, and is now gun-shy, so he slams on his brakes at a yellow, and I run into the back of him, when all along both of us could have made it safely through.
  4. For me, it's like a double edged sword. When I'm in the store browsing, I really appreciate that the store owners aren't yakking it up with every person that calls in. It makes me feel like since I took the trouble to actually drive down here, I'm more important than the guy on the phone. However, when I'm ready to buy something, I already know what it is and I have the money ready to go, so I'm just looking for availability and price, so I call around. We have two gun shops nearby to me, one of them's standard phone answer is "no we don't have any, try the gunshow", and the other is, "yeah we have them, but they are aaaalllll the waaaay over there in the other case and I can't get to it". If they can't take one minute to tell me the price, I'll just move along.
  5. I recently bought an AK and want to add a scope to it. On the left side of the reciever there is a bracket with two pins with heads that stick out on it that look like it should be for mounting purposes. I assume you can get something that wraps around to the top of the rifle with a scope rail. Can someone tell me what the name of this bracket and pin device is called, and what to look for for a rail? Thanks
  6. The last time I moved a web site to a new host, it was annoyingly frustrating waiting for the DNS records to propogate to all the providers. I thought that if we knew the new IP address, we could update our hosts file and keep on trucking. Thoughts??
  7. I plan on picking up a Keltek P3AT or Ruger LCP. Been wanting a pocket gun.
  8. I had to improvise like this one time. We found a mouse in the house and we had no traps, and it was too late to go to the store. I couldn't stand the thought of going to sleep with him running around, so I found a large 5 gallon bucket, covered the top with a towel and put some cheese and peanut butter on top of the towel. The towel could hold the cheese, but the weight of the mouse was too much and he fell into the bucket. Of course, I had made no such promises to my family, so I filled the bucket with about 6 inches of water. Woke up in the morning to find a dead, wet mouse.
  9. Do some research on proper grip and stance techniques. When I started shooting, I was surprized at how much I was doing wrong. Of course I got my primary gun education from TV, which is all wrong. Once I started using proper technique, my aim improved tremendously.
  10. I don't even pretend to understand what this may do to our economy, but here is something that has been bugging me. Using totally made up numbers, lets just say there are 60 million new cars sold in the US each year. The big three, Toyota, Nissan and VW each sell 10 million. If the Big three go under, won't 60 million people still want new cars, and wont the rest of the manufacturers just step up production to handle the demand. If so, then won't that put back the workers and suppliers? Secondly, don't the big three have plants and sell cars all over the world? Why aren't they asking some of these other countries to pony up some money. Won't it affect them as well? Why does the US allways have to be everyone's Suggar Daddy?
  11. Well, I did ask the last time I went in, and sure enough, they had it. Turns out it's a smidge cheaper than WWB too. Since it comes in boxes of 50, it makes buying a box even easier on the wallet. Think I'm definitely putting myself on the "Buy a box every week plan".
  12. I had to show my birth certificate to get my carry permit. He doesn't need one and has his finger on a much wider selection of weapons.
  13. Personally, I would get their permission to bring it in loaded. I like the idea of a lock box to bring it in and store it in the house, unloaded if that is their request. Be honest and say you'd rather not leave it in the car in case someone were to break in. Tell them that then there would be an armed criminal in the neighborhood. The reason for my thoughts are, this is your wife's parents. You probably need to respect them more than anyone else. If you piss them off, Thanksgiving and Christmas will suck forever. Your own parents will forgive you, friends will either forgive you or stop being your friend, but piss off your inlaws, and they will be mad, your wife will be mad, your dog will even look at you crosseyed. Now, that said, anywhere else I probably would deep conceal and move on.
  14. How much you want to bet that when they are found not guilty, they will be escorted to the door and offered citizenship?
  15. This is just unbelievable. My biggest pet peeve is when uninformed people go vote. They pick a candidate based on hype, water cooler talk, or who has the best hairdo. I wish there could be a simple test asked before getting a ballot. I think this is one reason the Founding Fathers never intended for the general population to elect the president, and they set up the Electoral College. Unfortunately, the EC has been bastardized into the system we currently have.
  16. Well, I guess I'll ask for it tomorrow when I make my National Ammo Day purchase.
  17. Well, no, actually I never have asked for it. I asked once what their economical stuff was, and they said WWB. They have never offered it as an option. I scan the shelf periodically and never see it. I guess next time I will ask.
  18. Our Walmart in Oakridge never carries Blazer. I wonder if it's a regional thing?
  19. I ordered a box of 700 for $139 from AIMSurplus last week. They said it would take them two weeks to just fill the order. That's how far back they are in shipping. Then add another week for shipping. Ugh!
  20. The problem with tolerence is that what these groups really mean is "Tolerate us". They don't want true tolerence. True tolerance would tolerate other people's intolerence. For instance, if I disagree with your lifestyle, but do nothing to you than state my opinion, I'm labeled intolerant. But I say that you should accept the fact that I disagree with you, just like you want me to accept you. Why should I have to do changing?
  21. You might be able to find one of those prepaid Visa / Matercards that you can transfer paypal funds to, and use that to buy online.
  22. In the intrest of "Spreading the Wealth" I gave mine away.
  23. My wife has a Bersa, and really likes it. It shoots well, and is pretty accurate. Very easy to field strip and clean. The only problem I've ever had with it is once or twice the slide closed after the last bullet was ejected. Not a huge deal when practice shooting, but you don't know when you are empty until you hear the click, then you have to fully rack the slide when you put in a new magazine. It could have been that I didn't clean the gun properly. Like I said it happened once or twice, and never again. The only other issue I have, and it's not with the gun, but ammo is a bit pricey for it. Wally World target ammo is around $30 / box of 100. My wife doesn't want to spend that kind of money on ammo, so she rarely practices with it. You will hear a lot of people here say that the .380 is not a great SD round. That may or may not be true. I've heard that you definitely don't want to use hollowpoint ammo, just stick with the FMJ for better penetration. I'll also say that the .380 in your hand is better than nothing.
  24. Well, that is funny. I called them Monday afternoon, and for about the fourth time in a row I got the exact same answer: "No we don't have any AK's, but there is a gun show this weekend, that's where you should go". I don't know what it is with the guy who answers the phone there. It's always the same person. Either he doesn't want to sell me a gun, or he is clueless to their inventory.
  25. Oops
