Well, I was able to test out my idea for targets today. I took milk jugs, filled them with water and froze them. The idea worked better than I expected. The jugs did not go flying all over the place, stayed standing up and the water didn't drain right out. As an added bonus, there was a satisfying spray of ice each time I blasted them. When I finished, I had a couple jugs of finely crushed ice. For my next trip, I'm going to paint the jugs black before freezing the water. I think the ice will be white and show up nicely against the black paint.

Thanks for the great info here guys! Where is a good place to find a used one? I looked at GunBroker and even the used ones are more than I can find a new one at Wallyworld.

I'm planning on going to the range this weekend, and was going to fill some milk jugs with sand. Then I though about filling them with water and freezing them. Has anyone ever tried this? Will they just shatter? I'll let you know. I just put a couple in the freezer.

I love "Kung Pow! Enter the Fist". The producer took all kinds of old martial arts films, cut them apart, spliced them back together and inserted himself into the scenes to make a hillarious movie. IF you want a night of fun stupidity, definitely rent this. Also, what about "Mystery Men" with Ben Stiller. Also starring Pee Wee Herman as "The Spleen".

I thought SOA was pretty good. I caught it on Comcast On-Demand. No Commercials

I haven't bought an AC/DC album since Back in Black. The last decade or so, every album seems to sound exactly the same.

I think Agent is still the best out there, been using it for ever. There is still a lot of music out there too.

If you are into binary newsgroups, there is lot of interesting gun related stuff in the alt.binaries.warez.educational group. If you have a newsgroup server with a lot of retention, it goes way back. If you've never heard of NNTP, then nevermind

I am thinking about getting a 10/22 for plinking around with, but I also want to customize it, new stock and magazine mostly. Can I just get the cheapest one I can find and replace the stock? I found one locally for around $200 with a plastic stock. It's basically the plain Jane model. Didn't know if there were certain models that are better for customizing, or if the guts were basically the same on all models.

OOOH! It just occurred to me, if you take her shopping, you can spend the whole wad on guns, and then use hers when she's not looking.

+1 Excellent advice. My wife wasn't too keen on firearms at first. I took her shooting once because I wanted her to know how to at least fire a gun IF she had to. Well, she was hooked. After the range session, she said "can we go look for one for me?" It's great to have a hobby I can share with my wife.

My son was telling me about a place near Norris Lake that he went to last week. It is on TWRA land, they have campsites with fire rings, all lakeside camping, portapotties. Don't know if it is "officially" OK to shoot there, but he said they were doing it. He said people there were shooting and lighting fireworks, with the TWRA officer present. I'm sorry, but I don't know where it is other than off the Jacksboro exit on I-75. My son couldn't give directions other than saying he just know how to get there. Maybe someone else here knows about it. If not, maybe I can get him to figure out the location using Google Maps.

I tried using water, but with the bottle on the ground, and a downward angle of the bullet, after about one magazine the bottle is empty. I've been using sand, but I think I'm going to mix them together, a little sand and the rest water. This way you get the water spray for a minute, and then you can still keep using them.

I usually take a pack of paper plates. You get like 100 for $1.50, so they are real cheap. Somewhere I found some little orange stickers that I put on the plate, just for something to aim at. If you staple the plate to a backstop so that you are shooting the bottom of the plate, the shadow in the bullet hole makes it easy to see your shot. We have an outside plinking range that you can shoot "stuff" as long as it's not glass and you pick it up when you are done. I usually take some old milk jugs filled with a little bit of sand. There are usually some golf balls laying around too that are fun to shoot at. What is everyone else's favorite targets?

No, you have the Haves and the Won't Try's. If the working man's bills are higher than his income, then he has a spending problem. How many poor people do you know that still have a cell phone, a nice car, cable, yet they complain they can't go to the doctor? We live in the USA, we can do just about anything we want. Got a crappy job? Find a new one. Turn of the TV, spend your evenings learning something new and get smarter for a better job. I mean really, how much does it cost to just exist? $500 rent, $150 utilities, $400 food, $200 gasoline. That all comes out to under $8 an hour by my math. You telling me in America you can't find a job that pays better than that? Or work two jobs? What it really boils down to is disipline. Don't spend more than you earn. Wnat to spend more? Work more.

Actually, studies are showing that this is not really the case. In actuality, the poor are getting richer as a whole. They are able to afford more. Part of it has to do with government subsidies.

Welcome! Looking at your screen name, are you a whitewater boater?

Yeah, he said he knew that much. I think I'm going to set a reminder on my computer, even though my renewal is a few years out. I don't want to let mine slip by.

Thanks! I'm sure my friend will be happy to hear this.

A buddy of mine had his permit and just discovered that it expired two weeks ago. He said that he was going to renew it this week, but for some reason I thought that if it expired, you had to start all over again, with the class and everything. Am I off base, or is there a grace period. Obviously he is not legal to carry, but can he still get a renewal?

I think this is the root of it all. They let the kid play most of the season, then when little Johnny doesn't have a chance, because he doesn't have natural skills, or is unwilling to put in extra effort to hone any skills, the parents cry foul. When my kids were younger, I hated organized sports where everything had to be equal, and everyone gets a trophy. Total BS! Sometimes in life, you are going to meet people who are better than you at things. Either work harder, or find your own strengths, or accept it and move on.

Nope, made the call five days ago. Guess I'll just have to stop in look for myself . Can you guys get a Saiga in stock? If so, what do they run? Sorry for hijacking this thread

Doh! Well, don't I look foolish? Note to self: Read entire post, then fire off rant if applicable. My appologies
