My dad had problems with raccoons eating and destroying his bird feeders. He took a 1x4 about two feet long, covered half with aluminum screen and put a metal tray on the other end, making sure the pan and screen didn't touch. Then he hooked up an electric fence shocker, one lead connected to the screen, one to the pan. When birds land on the tray to eat, they are safe, but a big old raccoon has to sit on the screen to eat the feed. When he touches the pan, the circuit is completed and he gets a really big surprise. It's even more fun to watch than the bug zapper

Back in the 60's, before my dad met my mom, he tried to join the ARMY. He was denied because of his vision. Fast forward a few years, he is married, and I just was born and Vietnam is in full swing. He went down to the draft board to update his status (married with child) and the lady at the desk recognizes his name. His draft notice had just gone out. Seems they didn't need him before, but any blind bat can take point. Anyway, they pulled his notice and he didn't have to go.

It's funny, my wife and I had this exact conversation about two weeks ago. There are several staff members at my church that use the word "crap" all the time, but would be totally offended if I said $#!+, which is the exact same thing. Not sure why some words are OK, and others aren't.

Real Gunfighter Lance Thomas

Best line of the video... I had to decide whether I wanted to be a victim of his mercy. -
It's a rare occasion that I can't find some range ammo at the Oak Ridge Walmart. They usually have either WWB or Blazer.

.380 ammo in stock and ready for sale!
analog_kidd replied to BimmerFreak's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
If only they made a Keltek P3AT or a ruger LCP sized pistol in 9mm. I think if someone did this, they would make a bunch of $$. -
I get kind of tired even going over to the ammo counter, but every time I'm in Walmart, I ask if they have .380 ammo. The story is always the same, "Haven't had it since December." Well, I went in on Wednesday and the guy said he had just gotten ten boxes in that morning. Of course it was all gone. I asked if it all went with one person, and he said no, it took three guys to clean him out. So that means someone in town here has got some. Come on and 'fess up if it was you. And, would you like to hook a brother up? The good news is maybe the stuff is flowing again.

I'd say, if possible, deep conceal, wear just a t-shirt so that it is obvious you are not carrying on your hip, and they won't even think about it. After a time or two, they won't even remember.

To me, I think the bill with the 11:00 restriction would have a better chance of passing. I just think it sits better with the sheeple. I don't like the restriction, but it's still waaay better than what we've got now, and if no HCP holders do anything stupid, then we can ammend the law in a year or two.

Alarm Going off in Tractor Supply
analog_kidd replied to 59allstate's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I had the same thing happen to me all the time. I kept setting off the alarm every time I went into Walmart and Home Depot. One day after tripping the alarm a greeter at Walmart said "you want me to fix that for you?" He got out some magnetic bar, told me to lift each foot up and he ran the bar across my soles. Never had a problem again. I guess the magnet killed the security device imbedded in the sole. You might want to see if your WM has the magnet. -
.380 ammo in stock and ready for sale!

Are you kidding me? $70 for a box of 50! Wallyworld sells it for $30 for a box of 100 (when they have it). NO THANKS! I'll wait till it comes in locally. Till then, I'll just carry the big gun. -
They are quite impressive aren't they? On mine, I just carefully pushed the two halves together. I found that one cut would form a sharp point, and I would just push the point in. I have heard that some people will put one half in the freezer to make it smaller.

I never heard anything either

IF there are any guns going across the border, banning the guns are not going to make a bit of difference to the gun runners. Most of them are probably full automatics, which most of us can't even own, so they are already illegal guns. A ban will not affect the trade route at all.

Someone told me the other day that Kel-Tek makes guns in their spare time, but their main reason for existing is to make components for the space shuttle. And, right now the space shuttle is rampped up, so all their attention is on that and not gun making, which is why it is so hard to find that P3AT I've been looking for. I also was told that Ruger was trying to buy some of Kel-Tek's patents? Anyone know if there is any truth to these rumors?

House panel advances guns in local parks bill
analog_kidd replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Why do they have to replace the signs? Why not just remove the current ones that say "No guns allowed" and leave it at that? -
I say that since there were provisions made in the stimulus bill to allow for these bonuses, any congressperson who is now claiming outrage must not have read the bill in it's entirety. If not, then that is missappropriation of our tax dollars and they should all be brought up on charges of fraud.

Hmmm, I wonder if anyone has signed up the Commercial Appeal folks?

We were a no gun house up until a few years ago when I came to my senses. I bought a gun for protection and it turned into a hobby. My wife was not crazy at all about the idea of having guns around, but said "you're a grown man, do what you want". After I bought one, I told her that if it was going to be in the house she at least should know how to use it, just in case she would ever have to use it, no matter how slight the chance. We went to the range, I showed her all about it, taught safety, handling, etc. and demonstrated the gun. I reloaded it and handed it to her. She unloaded the magazine, put the gun on the shelf and turned to me with the biggest grin I've ever seen. She said " that was so cool. Can we look for a pistol for me on the way home?" Ever since she has been hooked. She is waiting for her permit as we speak. It has turned out to be something we both enjoy and go shooting on "dates". My advice is go slow, be understanding, but be persistent. She'll come around.

Well, to be honest, I don't know the performance records of any of the execs getting the money. They may have been stellar performers or they may have been awful. It's not something that anyone seems to be talking about, but it would make for a good "rest of the story". I also don't know how many execs are getting bonuses. If it's one guy getting $165 mil, well that seems a bit excessive, but 300 guys getting $500,000 is not unreasonable. Again, I don't know. Most of these guys get bonuses as part of their contracted pay. They will draw a salary each month, and then once a year they get a big bonus. It's just the way the business works. But the fact remains that it was a part of their negotiated contract that was in place before the bailouts. If I were one of these guys, and a year ago I took this job over another one based on the overall compensation package, I would want to get paid! This is America, after all, where one can aspire to greatness. Would you rather have some goober in there getting paid $60,000 a year and totaly run the business into the ground? That's what's going to happen. Besides, congress is complaining about $165 mil being paid to these guys, who earned it, but were more than eager to spend the same amount of our money on the Innaguration. In a time of such serious fiscal troubles, could our President not have led by example and had a private ceremony in the Oval Office? I'm sure that could have been done for practically nothing. Or how about Pelosi and Reid's private jets they get to use at will? They probably cost the tax payers a ton of loot that could be saved if they just rode coach on puplic airlines. What it really boils down to is our government was way more irresponsible with our money than AIG has been. The public does not approve, Congress knows, and they are trying to wipe a little egg off their face onto the sleeves of AIG.
-
The fact of the matter is, these corporate execs had contracts in place with AIG to get bonuses upon certain performance scores. These contracts were in place long before the bailouts were given. The Dems pushed these bailouts through without any stipulations. They are handing out money like it's candy at a Christmas parade, and then complaining when someone else honors their obligations. If the government were to step in and say "No fair, you can't give these bonuses" they would be forcing the company to be in breach of contract. They know this, and that is why they won't actually do anything about it. They know that the majority of the people in the US don't agree with the bailouts, and they are just trying to regain some footing with the public. Do I think these execs get paid way too much money? Sure, but this is America and this is how Capitalism works.

This is typical. The author says: But they never list even a single flaw.

Gun Bills To Be Voted On This Week 3/11/09
analog_kidd replied to waynesan's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I think Naifeh figures if all these bills are seperate, some may pass and some not. But, if they are rolled up into one bill, he's got a 50/50 shot to kill it. And with some clever marketing and help of the media, he'd probably have a good chance.
