  1. You might be able to find one of those prepaid Visa / Matercards that you can transfer paypal funds to, and use that to buy online.
  2. In the intrest of "Spreading the Wealth" I gave mine away.
  3. My wife has a Bersa, and really likes it. It shoots well, and is pretty accurate. Very easy to field strip and clean. The only problem I've ever had with it is once or twice the slide closed after the last bullet was ejected. Not a huge deal when practice shooting, but you don't know when you are empty until you hear the click, then you have to fully rack the slide when you put in a new magazine. It could have been that I didn't clean the gun properly. Like I said it happened once or twice, and never again. The only other issue I have, and it's not with the gun, but ammo is a bit pricey for it. Wally World target ammo is around $30 / box of 100. My wife doesn't want to spend that kind of money on ammo, so she rarely practices with it. You will hear a lot of people here say that the .380 is not a great SD round. That may or may not be true. I've heard that you definitely don't want to use hollowpoint ammo, just stick with the FMJ for better penetration. I'll also say that the .380 in your hand is better than nothing.
  4. Well, that is funny. I called them Monday afternoon, and for about the fourth time in a row I got the exact same answer: "No we don't have any AK's, but there is a gun show this weekend, that's where you should go". I don't know what it is with the guy who answers the phone there. It's always the same person. Either he doesn't want to sell me a gun, or he is clueless to their inventory.
  5. Oops
  6. If the basis of the OP question was that "McCain is a shoe-in for TN, so why should I bother", I think that there are a lot more issues than just who's going to the President. Here in Oak Ridge, there were several issues I wanted to vote on. One of them was voting for a Republican in the state house seat where there is an incumbant Democrat. How about that for a reason? We need to unseat Naifeh as speaker to get some pro gun laws enacted, such as restaurant carry.
  7. I have been planning on buying a new AK from Aim Surplus for a while now. Did a side job last week and made enough cash to pay for one, so I called today to place the order. The guy on the phone said that he had just sold out like 20 minutes before I called. He said that they were swamped today because everyone was "panic buying AK's". What's funny is last week I called to inquire about the gun, and see if they had them in stock. They said "Oh sure, we got a lot of them". Today they said they weren't sure when they would be getting any new ones in, and any that they got would be to fill backorders. Just my luck. Anyone know where I can get an inexpensive AK near Knoxville?
  8. I don't think you have a "Duty" to vote, but I do think that if you vote, you have a duty to make an informed decision. I can't stand it when people go to the polls and have no idea who they are voting for or what the issues are. They just go in and mark random boxes.
  9. I look for the reports in the Oak Ridger newspaper every week.
  10. Exactly who came to my mind.
  11. Prank 1: I bought a big roll of yellow "Crime Scene - Do Not Cross" off E-Bay (you can find anything there) and wrapped my friends house while they were on vacation. For extra effect, my wife laid down on the carport and I traced her outline with chalk. Prank 2: I do this every year on April Fools day, and now most people are onto me, but I still get some of the newbies. We all carry text pagers at my job. I send an anonymous page for the victim to reply to an urgent call from some person at some number. Here are a few of the people and numbers I give... Liz Onya - Fazolies restaurant Lon Moore - Lawn Maintenance service / Mower sales & repair Mr. Lyon or Ms. Byrd - Knoxville Zoo (they got really mad the first year I used them, and now if you call on April 1, you get a recording that you may have gotten scammed. That joke keeps on giving to me) If you don't have pagers, then some of those "While you were out messsage pads work good too.
  12. I got this nifty shop vac for Christmas one year, adn thought it would be perfect for cleaning out fireplace ashes after the coold down a day. Well I got everything out, and started sucking up the ashes, thinking how smart I was and congratulating myself on what a great job it was doing. When I finished I stood up and turned around to find that I did not install the filter, and all the ashes had been blown out the shop vac exhaust all over the living room. Took a long time to clean up the mess.
  13. Plus you definitely pay taxes on 401k, and IRA's, and I'd guess pensions.
  14. Slightly off topic, but... My dad tells the story of being at work once and a dog walked in front of him and his co-workers. The dog sat down and started licking himself. One of the co-workers said "I wish I could do that, ha ha". So my dad being pretty quick, said "Well, if you want, I'll hold his legs for you"
  15. Wow! What a great page. I've stripped my MkIII 22/45 once, and it was quite the ordeal. This looks like it should make it easier. Thanks!
  16. I've been practising the technique of using your slide hand to cover the ejection port, and I'm happy to say it works pretty well for me. So simple, don't know why I didn't figure that out on my own. Thanks everyone!
  17. When I was a teenager, I had no experience with guns. My friend had a .22 rifle and he was showing it to me in his room. I asked if it was loaded and he said "No" and handed it to me. I sighted it in through the window on the neighbors house, car, etc. I had enough sense to not pull the trigger while aiming across the street. I couldn't resist pulling the trigger though, so I pointed it at the floor, pulled back and BANG! Learned a huge lesson that day. Ever since, every single gun I have ever handled was, as far as I was concerned, loaded, chambered and cocked. My friend had some serious 'splainin to do when his mom came running in totally freaked out.
  18. How much did it cost the Obama camp for that extravagant stage setup during the Dem Convention, or renting the Stadium? I'm not complaining about it, but you spend your money your way, and I'll spend mine myt way.
  19. I love it!
  20. Well, yeah you could do that, but I said "proper and accepted"
  21. OK, I'll have to try that. The slide is pretty stiff on my XD-9, and I usually have to hold it pretty tight. Plus I usually grip the slide at the back, so I'll have to move my grip forward. Thanks
  22. Man! that is just like me and my folks. Sometimes I wonder if I really grew up in their house. I always thought they were fairly conservative, but when I finaly got interested in politics and really started discussing it with them, I find out they are total lefties. I always kid them and tell them they didn't raise me with those kind of morals. These days, politics are just totally off limits. We can talk about anything but that. Political discussions just make all of us angry. What's funny is they really do have several conservative ideals, but I think what it really comes down to is they just hate Bush, and thought Clinton did a good job.
  23. If clearing my pistol, to let someone look at it, or for cleaning, the bullet in the chamber has to be cycled out. So I drop the magazine, and cycle the slide. If I'm near a table, I just rack the slide over it and the bullet drops out, no big deal. But what if you're at the range and nowhere but the floor to drop the bullet. Do you ask your buddy to hold out his hand and catch it? doesn't seem too safe. Do you just let it drop to the ground? That doesn't sound safe either, and the bullet could get damaged and not feed properly. What is the proper and accepted method?
  24. Think I'll call around tomorrow and just see how much they cost. If they're giving them away, well, I'm a big supporter
  25. It occured to me that the wire frames that hold up the little political yard signs would make great target holders. I know it is illegal to remove them before an election, but does anyone know if they are fair game after the election?
