  1. Someone told me the other day that Kel-Tek makes guns in their spare time, but their main reason for existing is to make components for the space shuttle. And, right now the space shuttle is rampped up, so all their attention is on that and not gun making, which is why it is so hard to find that P3AT I've been looking for. I also was told that Ruger was trying to buy some of Kel-Tek's patents? Anyone know if there is any truth to these rumors?
  2. Why do they have to replace the signs? Why not just remove the current ones that say "No guns allowed" and leave it at that?
  3. I say that since there were provisions made in the stimulus bill to allow for these bonuses, any congressperson who is now claiming outrage must not have read the bill in it's entirety. If not, then that is missappropriation of our tax dollars and they should all be brought up on charges of fraud.
  4. Hmmm, I wonder if anyone has signed up the Commercial Appeal folks?
  5. We were a no gun house up until a few years ago when I came to my senses. I bought a gun for protection and it turned into a hobby. My wife was not crazy at all about the idea of having guns around, but said "you're a grown man, do what you want". After I bought one, I told her that if it was going to be in the house she at least should know how to use it, just in case she would ever have to use it, no matter how slight the chance. We went to the range, I showed her all about it, taught safety, handling, etc. and demonstrated the gun. I reloaded it and handed it to her. She unloaded the magazine, put the gun on the shelf and turned to me with the biggest grin I've ever seen. She said " that was so cool. Can we look for a pistol for me on the way home?" Ever since she has been hooked. She is waiting for her permit as we speak. It has turned out to be something we both enjoy and go shooting on "dates". My advice is go slow, be understanding, but be persistent. She'll come around.
  6. Well, to be honest, I don't know the performance records of any of the execs getting the money. They may have been stellar performers or they may have been awful. It's not something that anyone seems to be talking about, but it would make for a good "rest of the story". I also don't know how many execs are getting bonuses. If it's one guy getting $165 mil, well that seems a bit excessive, but 300 guys getting $500,000 is not unreasonable. Again, I don't know. Most of these guys get bonuses as part of their contracted pay. They will draw a salary each month, and then once a year they get a big bonus. It's just the way the business works. But the fact remains that it was a part of their negotiated contract that was in place before the bailouts. If I were one of these guys, and a year ago I took this job over another one based on the overall compensation package, I would want to get paid! This is America, after all, where one can aspire to greatness. Would you rather have some goober in there getting paid $60,000 a year and totaly run the business into the ground? That's what's going to happen. Besides, congress is complaining about $165 mil being paid to these guys, who earned it, but were more than eager to spend the same amount of our money on the Innaguration. In a time of such serious fiscal troubles, could our President not have led by example and had a private ceremony in the Oval Office? I'm sure that could have been done for practically nothing. Or how about Pelosi and Reid's private jets they get to use at will? They probably cost the tax payers a ton of loot that could be saved if they just rode coach on puplic airlines. What it really boils down to is our government was way more irresponsible with our money than AIG has been. The public does not approve, Congress knows, and they are trying to wipe a little egg off their face onto the sleeves of AIG.
  7. The fact of the matter is, these corporate execs had contracts in place with AIG to get bonuses upon certain performance scores. These contracts were in place long before the bailouts were given. The Dems pushed these bailouts through without any stipulations. They are handing out money like it's candy at a Christmas parade, and then complaining when someone else honors their obligations. If the government were to step in and say "No fair, you can't give these bonuses" they would be forcing the company to be in breach of contract. They know this, and that is why they won't actually do anything about it. They know that the majority of the people in the US don't agree with the bailouts, and they are just trying to regain some footing with the public. Do I think these execs get paid way too much money? Sure, but this is America and this is how Capitalism works.
  8. This is typical. The author says: But they never list even a single flaw.
  9. I think Naifeh figures if all these bills are seperate, some may pass and some not. But, if they are rolled up into one bill, he's got a 50/50 shot to kill it. And with some clever marketing and help of the media, he'd probably have a good chance.
  10. several years ago, I was driving somewhere with my two boys (young teenagers at the time) and I hit a rabbit. The stupid thing darted right out in front of me. I looked in my mirror and saw the thing squirming in the road. It was obviously in serious pain and would not live. My kids were a little freaked out by the sight. Being the quick thinker that I am, I put the car in reverse, took aim and went in for the kill shot. Two bumps of my tires and the deed was done. My kids sat there with their mouths wide open, not knowing what to say. Then we all started laughing for the next several minutes. They still tease me about it today. The Rabbit Killer
  11. I found this paragraph hilarious: As if having access to a computer is so hard these days, and there is practically no way a criminal would ever be able to or understand how to use one.
  12. I've often wondered about that too. Walmart is usally pretty cheap with just about everything, but if you look hard enough you can nearly always find better deals online. Not so with ammo. I never find anywhere online that has better deals for stuff like 9mm. Even if you buy in bulk.
  13. Judging by the deadbolt, I'd guess that's an external door. With that big gap there where the old lock went, it looks a little flimsy. I'd be worried someone could kick that door in. I might try to cut some plywood and fit it into the gap and epoxy it in. Then redrill the lock holes. It would also give you something to screw the catch into.
  14. I'm wondering if this was total sarcasm? If not, then yes, I am scared.
  15. I bought an Uncle MIke's for about $15, but to be honest, I have never used it. When I go to the range, I keep my normal carry pistol on my hip, and the Ruger .22 just hangs out on the table. It would be awkward to carry them both.
  16. I ran across this page for 7.62x39 ammo. Thay are asking $500 per 1000 rounds of Wolf Military Classic. And that's the "Club Discount" price, it's $750 regular price. Wasn't this stuff around $200 a few months ago? http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/AMM633-5.html
  17. If I try real hard, I can sort of see their point about wanting to know if someone who shouldn't have a permit was able to obtain one, even though I think that is highly unlikely. However, if someone wants to see if another person has a HCP, then I wouldn't have a problem with them being able to go to the couthouse and request a lookup for specific individuals. That keeps the records open and the public still has their access.
  18. I bet the thermostat is broken and not shutting off the element. Your water heater is probably constantly "on". I bet your electric bill will be up this month. I'd see how much a new thermostat costs, and compare it to a new heater. They are not that hard to do yourself and save some money.
  19. Got an email from a friend with a graphic showing just how big $700 billion is and it blew me away. I found a web page showing the same graphic. You can see it here at number 3 on the list: http://www.humblelibertarian.com/2008/10/how-big-is-700-billion.html Here are some more data points I found interesting:
  20. I would start thinking about a backup plan for your wife's permit class. My wife also has a .380 Bersa, but had to use my .22 pistol for her permit class last month. Probably worked out better for her anyway, she's pretty accurate with the .22 with a 6" barrel.
  21. What happened to the prices during the Clinton ban? If they went up, did they come back down during the Bush administration?
  22. I see they also have Wolf 7.62x39 ammo for sale. It's been a long time since I've seen that anywhere.
  23. I spoke to the Walmart clerk about .380 ammo the other day. They said they had not gotten any in since December. I could understand shortages caused by locals buying it all up, but this just seems like an issue with manufacturing. Would there be a reason the manufacturers would not be making any right now?
  24. I bought that book last year. At first I was a little disappointed because it was so short (and a little pricey for the number of pages), but I will say that it is a good read. Lots of good info that is just basic common sense, but sometimes you just don't think about. I should get it back out and re-read it.
  25. Well, I heard back for my state Senator Randy McNally today. Here is his response to an email I sent him: Not a 100% agreement, but it's close.
