Not what I was expecting. I thought I'd see something with lots of feathers.

Welcome from yet another Oak Ridger
-
What about inheriting a gun? I know someone who's father in-law lived and died in another state. He and his wife went to clean out the house to sell it and came back with a shotgun.

Well, you know, people who keep extinguishers in their house are just looking for fires too. -
Oak Ridge to consider banning guns in parks
analog_kidd replied to analog_kidd's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Defense of self in Oak Ridge - Oak Ridge, TN - The Oak Ridger Fred Childress has a nice letter to the editor in the Oakridger. He is a fine American, and is also the owner of a very nice cafe' here in town in the shopping center where Karen's Jewelers is. They have excellent and healthy food. He and his wife took the carry class with my wife. -
I wonder about the Oak Ridge Greenways too. Most of them have obvious points of entry to post at, but the one at the marina looks like a sidewalk along the road. there is like two miles of parking, and you just get out of your car and start walking. Do they intend on posting signs every 20 feet? This is also the site of a couple of rapes and numerous car break-ins. If ever there was a place you need to carry, this is it.

Can I carry a shotgun on my motorcycle, ala Arnold in Terminator? Or can I ride with my AK slung over my shoulder? Just wondering

How many of you carry while you ride a Motorcycle?

Wouldn't even think about not carrying while on the bike. -
Knowing it's a scam, I'd have a little fun with this guy. Email back that you are really interested, but are a little tied up with an upcoming Hemmorhoid surgery. Just keep stringing him along and come up with wacky exceuses. See where it goes, and report back to us here.

I saw a New England Firearms 12g shotgun, already rigged up for HD at Dicks Sporting goods for $212. Dicks is expensive and I'm sure a better deal can be found. I've not actually shot one, but I fondled it in the store and it was quite solid feeling. I read somewhere that is is a Remmington 870 clone. When I'm ready to buy a HD shotgun, this will definitely be in the top 5 for my choice.

I've always wondered, what prevents the bullit from riccocheting off the steel and heading back your way? I see these steel targets all the time and am amazed that nobody gets hurt.

Here is some info on the meeting...

Got this email from Ellen Smith in response to my email: and I sent this one back... Sadly, I'm not sure it will do much good to change her mind.

Thanks for posting their addresses. Email has been sent to each. I will be out of town Monday, but is anyone planning on attending the meeting?

Discussion on posted restaurants

Prince Deli and Sports Bar on Lovell Rd in Knoxville has a gun inside a circle-slash sign taped to their front door. I'm not a patron, but was passing by yesterday and could see the sign from Lovell. -
Oak Ridge to consider banning guns in parks
analog_kidd replied to analog_kidd's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
So, Chief Beams see no reason to allow law abiding citizens to carry in parks, but acknowledges that we have a criminal element that will carry there, regardless of the law. As far as him not knowing of a past situation where a permit holder could have prevented a crime, I certainly don't want my family to be the first case, and be caught without some sort of defense. I own a house across the street from a large park in OR, and I have personally witnessed drug buys there, and I see the cops there all the time. So, we definitely have a need to be able to defend ourselves if we want to visit one of these parks. Beams needs to be finding a new job as far as I'm concerned. Since he has been in office, crime rate has risen, and officer morale has dropped. Unfortunately, I will be out of town on Monday evening, so I won't be able to attend the council meeting, Are there any other's who might be able to take a stand for our cause? -
Since the gun has a mind of it's own, it just didn't realize where it was yet. Give it time and it will most certainly go on a rampage.

Carry on the Blue Ridge Parkway
analog_kidd replied to analog_kidd's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
OK, thanks. I was kind of thinking that, but I was hoping someone would say something different. Now, can I keep it with me unloaded and seperated from ammo while driving around? And would my tent be considered my domicile, and therefore allow me to keep it there at night? It's a stretch, I know, but I want to stay legal. -
My wife and I are going camping at a campground on the Blue Ridge Parkway next week. We will be in North Carolina, near Brevard. I know NC will honor my permit, but does anyone know if it is legal to carry on the Parkway itself, or in the campgrounds?

I was originally attracted to the XD because of the grip safety, since I have grandkids that come over frequently. But it really came down to it just felt better in my hand. One feature of the grip safety I didn't realize till after I bought it, if you holster it by moving your thumb from the grip to the back of the slide and use your thumb to push the gun down into the holster, the grip safety automatically becomes disengaged. Use this method to reholster, and it reduced the chance of a ND. Of course as has already been mentioned, one needs to always be contientious about handling their firearm anyway, but one more piece of added safety never hurts. I will say also, that you need to practice drawing it from the holster and shooting it as if it were a real life situation. I was practicing drawing from underneath a cover shirt and firing at my range one day, and the gun did not go bang as expected. I looked at my grip, and the grip saftety was not engaged. In my haste to draw, I didn't have a good, solid grip. It was a real eye-opener for me. Not a problem now, I practice and develop muscle memory, but just be aware that in a real world situation, when you are scared and your hands are not working properly, this is the kind of thing that can happen. If you do decide to practice drawing and firing, do it at home first, with a gun that has been unloaded (twice, and by two seperate people ) and dry firing in a safe direction. Then make sure it is ok to practice with live ammo at your range, and OK with others that may be there.

DD is the only reason I'd even be going to a bar, so I definitely would not be drinking, and I definitely would want to be carrying. -
I have a Ruger 22/45 and love the way it shoots. Very accurate, eats everything I feed it. The only thing I don't like about it is field stripping it. You definitely need to Google it and find step by step instructions for putting it back together, or you will be bringing it to a gun smith for re-assembly.

If you like tent camping out of your car, and having a few amenities like flush toilets, you can't get any better than Frozen Head state park between Oliver Springs and Wartburg. It's only 30 minutes from Oak Ridge, as pretty as anything in the Smokies, rarely crowded, got a creek and good hiking. Plus it's a State Park, so it's HCP-OK.
