I have a friend that uses CFL's exclusively, but never buys them anymore. Most of the name brand bulbs come with a warranty. My friend will save the reciept, and mark each bulb with the reciept number and date of purchase. He say's they never last as long as they are supposed to, so he sends them back for free replacement. For the most part, I don't mind the CFL's, and I have been buying them when my old bulbs die. I dislike how they take a while to warm up. I'm used to the light coming on full power right away. I also don't like the color of the light. Maybe it's just my brain being accustom to the the incandescent color. Probably kids from today will see an incandescent bulb 20 years from now and think they look wierd. What I really don't like is the Govt. telling me I HAVE to buy them.

What irks me about TDOS is that they charge you double for your license just for getting the endorsement. Been a while since I renewed, but I think my wife and I both went down to DOS, and she was charged $27 for her license (no endorsement) and I was charged over $50 (with endorsement). Seems like TN has found another way of making $$$ off of the backs of her citizenry. Would think motorcyclers would pay less, since we don't tear up the roads as much as cars, plus we use less gas, so we're greener.

Well, I've been planning on this trip for a while now. I have told a few people about it, and a some are definitely coming. So, I'm still planning on heading out on the trail. I'm willing to lead the trip if anyone else still wants to come. I'm not a seasoned "survivalist", and I won't be able to teach anyone the ways of Survivor Man or anything, but I do go backpacking several times a year, and have been camping since I was a baby, so I'm no stranger to the outdoors. And I am familiar with the area. So, if anyone still wants to go, send me a PM and we'll set something up.

No, didn't even get paid. Just the bragging rights of being in a TV video doing something cool. -
My son in a kayak video for a car commercial
analog_kidd replied to analog_kidd's topic in General Chat
Yes, Baby Falls. We were going to do Bald River Falls, but it was covered in ice, with no way to climb up. -
So my son is going to be in a commercial for a car dealership. We went to the Tellico River and ran this waterfall over and over. He got this link to the rough footage. I'm the old guy getting the "instructions" from him. Funny part is I taught him everything hew knows about kayaking. http://player.vimeo.com/video/20066155

I would think the brine would work well AFTER the snow event. Once the roads are coverd in snow and ice, and there is no more in the forecast. But I've always wondered about the logic of using it before a good snowing.

I keep getting those offers too. I'm pretty sure it's because I subscribe to Guns and Ammo. I was going to sign up, but I read the fine print and they will automatically charge your credit card every year unless you intentionally cancel the subscription prior to renewal. Others may not find that a big deal, but I didn't like it, so I passed.

I've never bought one of these papers, but I see them every where, and I see people buying them all the time. Whoever thought up the idea is a stinking genius!

I usually do 20%, add it to the bill and round everything up to the next whole dollar or two. One place I'm always unsure about is a buffet. I go get my own plate, and serve myself, sometime even get my own drink. Not sure what the norm is there, but I at least leave 10-15%. We like to eat TGI Fridays takeout. They had this curbside to go service, where you call it in and they bring it out to your car. Our local one now changed the rules, so that you have to come in and get it. Some servers still will bring it out, so I have learned to ask, however most don't. If they bring it out to me, they are getting a tip. If I have to go in and pick it up, forget it. I figured the cook did the real work, and I did my own serving, they aren't getting anything. If they don't like it they can take it up with management, or continue to bring it out like the few who do.

Keltec P3AT trigger problem
analog_kidd replied to analog_kidd's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
It is a DAO gun, but mine has always funtioned like this: Unload gun of all ammo, rack slide and pull trigger. Long hard trigger pull and hammer falls. Since no round was fired, if you pull trigger again without racking slide, there is relatively no resistance in trigger, and the hammer does not move. Trigger does not do anything until the slide is racked. I always thought it would pull the hammer back no matter what, until a friend was describing his Ruger LCP, which acts exactly as mine does as described above. I experimented with mine and discovered I was mistaken. In other words, the slide HAS to be racked for the trigger to release the hammer. Whether the slide is racked by me or a bullet, it has to be done every time. Good idea about KTOG, I'll look around on there. Funny thing, I just posted this this morning, a google search of "Keltec p3at trigger problem" brought me to my post as the first link. -
Last weekend I went to the range and had an issues with my P3AT. I had about three rounds that would not fire. I looked at the primer and saw that there was no dimple. I reloaded the rounds adn tried again, of the three, two fired the second time, but not the third. Took the third and loaded it again and it fired. Kind of chalked it up to some cheap ammo I bought for it, but what kept concerning me is no dimple on the primer. I took the gun home, unloaded it and started dry firing it and here's what I noticed. The design of this gun is that the gun has to be cocked for the hammer to fall. If uncocked, pulling the trigger has no resistance and the hammer does not get pulled back. However, I noticed that, with the gun cocked, if I don't pull the trigger exactly straight back, the hammer falls halfway (which is why the primer did not get hit). Immediately pulling the trigger again, there is resistance, and makes the hammer go back and release again. If I pull the trigger exactly straight back, it fires every time. If i give a little sideways pull of the trigger, or in other words pull it back and to the right, if fails almost every time. If I ever have to use this gun, I want it to go off every time, I don't want to have to think "Oh yeah, this gun needs this special action to fire". Anybody ever have something similar happen? Was thinking about sending it back to KelTec to have them look at it. How is their service?

I've been doing it for several yers now. However, I think my GPS is in the blink. Won't stay on for more than a few minutes, even with new batteries. Probably need to get a new one. I took my grandson out once and he absolutely loved it. I placed one out near the Obed National Park, but once I converted the container from Tupperware to a ammo can, it didn't last long. I guess someone needed an ammo can.

I'm in too. I need to talk to my two sons and see if either of them might want to go.

Still interested, but check PM

Looking someone to do some reloading.

I can do .380 for you. Even got the press all set up for it. PM your address and I'll send some your way. -
Like I already didn't have enough to worry about for the kids in my life, now there is this: America's New Drug Problem: Snorting 'Bath Salts' - FoxNews.com Apparently a new drug fad is going on in where people are snorting, shooting, smoking, eating bath salts. Some of the side effects are rapid heart beat, paranoia, hallucinations, depression and suicidal thoughts. Even though the ride is awful, users crave it so much they go back over and over. Worst thing about it is it is totally legal and available online and in stores. You may even have some in your own bathroom. Reading some of the stories about it, reminds me of some really scary horror movie.

Very Nice. Never really considered the fact that so many other people dropped the ball on reporting him. Not that it shifts the blame away from the shooter, but if just one of those other folks whould have stood up, maybe this would have been avoided. Good job with the interview.

So, Comcast just bought NBC (which includes MSNBC) and apparently didn't see eye to eye with Kieth Olberman, so he is no longer going to be a bews anchor there. Funny thing is, I never watch him, and last Friday landed on his show while channel surfing. I stopped out of curiosity to see how he thinks, but could only take about 10 minutes of his blathering. If I had stuck it out, I would have witnessed his resignation.

Way to go!!! -
I saw www.usaammo.com pop up in one of the TGO banner ads and clicked it. Looks like they sell their own reloads, but the prices look very reasonable. Most of the pricier ammo that you get for "a good price" at Walmart, like .380, .45, etc, is a lot cheaper. Don't know what their shipping costs are like, so that could factor in.
