I never watch any shows live anymore. I'm one of those people that will pause live tv for 15 minutes and go do something else so I can fast forward thru commercials. We just got DirecTV and they have a 30 second commercial skip built into the remote. Makes it very easy to blast past commercials. When we had Comcast, I found a way to reprogram their remote to have this feature. Google "Comcast remote hack" to find instructions on reprogramming yours.

Best Commnetary I've seen Yet on the "Occupiers."
analog_kidd replied to Timestepper's topic in General Chat
A guide for parents on how to create an Occupy Protester: Enroll your kids in soccer and make sure every one of them get a trophy. Spend $1000 each on them at Christmas time, then give them anything they want the rest of the year. When they get a bad grade or get in trouble at school, have a meeting with the teacher and principal and try to get the teacher fired. Let them play video games all day long. Never make them do chores. Let the kids rule the parents. Never punish your child. -
I've been thinking all along that if these "Occupy" folks just got together and really organized, they could start their own economy. Don't like big business, such as Walmart? Then open a store, and all the occupy folks can patronize you. Don't like Wallstreet? Then don't invest there, invest in your new busiunesses. When your new store starts making a profit, you can give away your money just like you think should be done now for you. Don't like the current system? Make your own new system supporting each other. When (if) people see how awesome it is, they will be convinced and have a change of mindset. The problem is, most of these people are not enterprising or motivated. It's a whole lot easier to sit around banging drums all day, smoking fatties, and complaining about how the government should be taking better care of them.

what is on your adult beverage menu for the evening?

Had some Bourbon Barrel Stout beer while on vacation last month. It was a very nice dark beer, with a distinctive taste of bourbon mixed in. Found it recently in McScrooges in Knoxville. -
Thanks to all the Veterans! (Freebies inside as well)

I would also like to say thak you to all the men and women veterans here on TGO that served this country. I can't even imagine the bravery it takes to volunteer to protect our country in the ways that you all do. And you do it with very little thanks. You are all American Patriots. You make me proud! Thanks! -
Hmm, I saw the police pull up, with lights on, to that same General Lee car in the Walmart parking lot last night.

Emily Gets Her Gun - Washington Times Article
analog_kidd replied to analog_kidd's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
There are a few more updates on Emily's blog page. Her quest for gun ownership is still in progress, but she's not there yet. Guns - Washington Times -
Well, I held true to my promise. Cancelled NetFlix over the weekend. It was unsatisfyingly uneventful. There was no weeping or gnashing of teeth from Netflix. Just an email saying they want their last DVD back. Guess they wre prepared for the mass exodus. Comcast got it too. We cancelled the TV, but kept the Internet. When I brought back the TV Box, the guy at the counter mentioned, "Did anyone tell you there was a $40 fee for a tech to come out and climb the pole to put a filter on to block the TV? Oh and did anyone tell you your Internet was going up to nearly $70 a month if you don't have a package deal?" I called to complain, and I did get someone who said they could lower the Internet down to $52, which I could live with, but they would not budge on the $40 service call. Makes me mad because I said that should just be a cost of doing business. My goal was to stop getting gouged by Comcast, so I asked them what the service fee was to disconnect it all. They said that was free, so I said "Let's do that". I guess they'd rather send someone out on their dime and lose a customer, than send someone out for free and keep one. The funny thing is, my son and his wife were visited by a Comcast rep in the neighborhood last week, and hooked them up with a really great deal on TV and Internet. Funny how they bend over backwards for a new customer, but not for the one that has been paying them for the last twelve years.

Guns - Washington Times This is a very interesting series of articles by Washington Times journalist Emily Miller. She lives in D.C and decided to go through the process of legally obtaining a gun, and is blogging the whole process. It's a work in progress, and she does not have her gun yet, but is committed to documenting the process. Start at the bottom of the page and work your way up. The oldest blogs are at the bottom of the page.

I never did see who shot Carl. It wasn't his dad or Shane, so it must have been another person in the woods. I also didn't see the two men looking around to see who it might have been, or trying to find cover. The teaser for next week didn't reveal it either.

I would have asked him why Peter felt the need to carry a sword while he was in Jesus' presence. There were bad guys back then that people needed to have protection against, just like today. When Jesus was sending out the desciples, He told them to bring along a sword. I feel that if guns were available back then, He may have said to carry them instead. The fact is, a sword was the most effective personal weapon at the time. Plus, I think it is illegal to carry a sword around in public today, but we are allowed to carry a gun. We are instructed to be meek, but not doormats.

Well, they lost me as a customer. I held on one extra month (partly because I wanted to give them a chance to do right, and partly because I had some good movies in my queue), but I am officially canceling them this month. I figured they might go ahead and do a special combo pricing on discs and streaming, but it looks like they are holding firm on their new pricing structure. While I'm at it "Sticking it to the man", Comcast is going to get a little surprize call from me this week to let them know I'm switching to Direct TV, and if they try to raise my Internet fee, I'll be moving over to someone else for that too.

THAT is what happens when you let the loonies run the asylum! It's also another reason this group won't really succeed at anything. They can't get organized. They are trying to merge civility with mob mentality. The mob will win every time. The best they can hope for is some disruption, but they will never evoke real change.

Yeah, I tried that first. I went back now and tried it again, but still no luck. Dropped the @gmail.com and JC popped right in there. I dunno.

I tried, but I can't seem to find you at that address.

I get my information right from him. He routinely called for Jihad against America. Watch some of his videos, you'll see it for yourself. Also, he aligned himself with Al Qeida, who has declared war against us, and us against them. If someone joins and participates in a group that we are at war with, that makes them an enemy combatant in that war, and therefore fair game in wartime operations. The battlefield has changed since the 1800's. They used to line up, stand up and shoot each other back then, now we kill each other from miles away. Do you really think that during the Civil War, that if a group of soldiers travelling down the road met another opposing group, that they would make plans to meet back at the battlefield? No, they would fight it out right there. You take the battlefield to the battle, not the battle to the battlefield. Did the 9/11 attacks happen on a battlefield? I'm not sure what you mean by Lincoln, but I never mentioned him. My point was there were two sides of opposing US citizens at war against each other and neither side tried all the people they killed during the war. Besides, Lincoln wasn't the President of the South during the Civil War.

I found it on www.TVDuck.com. It's low-def and laden with advertisements around (but not in) the video, but at least you can see the full episode. I search for the show, and there are a few dozen links. I usually have to click several before I find one that works.

Thanks for the PM, WyattEarp. I persisted earlier in the season and found another feed from a different website. I'll keep your link as a backup.

I think there is already a precedent for this. He was a US citizen that declared war against the US, which in some ways is not unlike the Civil War, which was made up of US citizens declaring war against each other. Neither the North or South did not put on trial every combatant they killed. They may had if surrenders were given.

Google Voice is a free phone number from Google, that you link to any of the phones you may regularly use, like your cell, work, that cabin you are going to for the weekend, etc. When someone dial the Google number all of the phones ring at the same time, whichever one you answer from gets the call routed to you. The best thing is the caller only knows your Google number. In the Google account you can specify which numbers calling you should ring your phones, go straight to voicemail or just be blocked alltogether. It's an awesome tool and everyone should have a Google Voice number. There's lot of other cool features the account does too.

I'm 46 years old and have been camping all my like (first time was around three months old). I have been through a lot of tents in my years, but I currently am using a reasonably inexpensive Coleman dome tent, and I think it is as good as any other high dollar tent I've owned. It's not light or super compact, but for car camping it is great. It's a few years old and has held up well. I've weathered a lot of storms and it has kept me nice and dry. I would recommend it to anyone.
