  1. Very clever of Boyd to get thrown back in jail. I was wondering what he was up to. All in all, I thought it was a slow opener, but it looks like it will build up nicely.
  2. I'd definitely be up for some backpacking. I did three days two nights on the AT this past fall. They were 10 mile days, which most people would probably find do-able. My knees gave out around mile 5, so I determined that I no longer enjoy long hikes. The rest of the trip was miserable for me. I had a hard time walking for weeks, and my knees hurt for months. So, my idea of a great hike these days is 5 or six miles to the shelter, and relax. I might go long again one day, but I'm going to have to work up to it and see if the knees will get stronger. I've hiked a lot at Frozen Head, and done many overnights there. The fire tower is worth the hike, and the view is great, but the campsite is aweful. It is at the base of a Cell Tower, with all kinds of electric wires and humming sounds coming from it. It would be better to stay at Tubbs Springs, just down from the tower, and then side trip up for the view. Tubbs is right next to the water source, has room for a few dozen campers, and it's nice and flat. My favorite site there is just a half mile from Tubbs at the rock house. Its a big rock house cave, adn the site is in the cave. I've been there before in downpours, and been able to enjoy a nice warm campfire and stay perfectly dry.
  3. MILLER: Why I still haven Emily has another new post on her site. She's determined which gun she wants and is hitting roadblocks in being able to buy it. It's D.C. so that is no big surprise. I found it odd her comment about the post office not delivering mail to police HQ. But, like I said, it's D.C.
  4. You'll probably have to fiddle around with the camera settings. Set the ISO up high, starting around 800 or 1000. The higher you go, the grainier the picture will be, so keep going till you find it unacceptable. Set the camera for shutter priority and start with 1/250 of a second and work up. You'll want a fast shutter speed to stop the action. Try mixing high ISO with high shutter till you get the combination that works for you.
  5. I'm sooo looking forward to this season. Justified became one of my favorite shows. I really like the Boyd character. I'm kind of disappointed that he has left the "straight and narrow". I thought it made for great tension him being all reformed. You never quite knew if he was serious, or just playing some angle. Now it seems that he will be on the wrong side of the law, I'm a little disappointed. I hope he and Raylan "team up" for action. I like it when the good guy is a little bad, and the bad guy is a little good.
  6. Well, the final show of the season aired this week. This show actually turned out to be one of my favorites. Even my wife, who could care less about it when I told her about it at the beginning of the season, is looking forward to season two. Has anyone paid attention to the names of the actors at the beginning of the show? Anson Mount, Colm Meany, Common. Those names sound like they should be the character's names.
  7. Some people just ain't right
  8. Then he loaded a full Clip into it.
  9. Microsoft Clamps Down on Virtual Guns on Xbox LIVE Apparently Microsoft is taking an anti-gun stance on it's XBox Live Marketplace. Vendors will no longer be allowed to sell avatars that are gun related. Ones that have previously been purchased can remain, but no new ones can be sold. Sheesh, first Google, now Microsoft. What's this world coming to?
  10. I saw the Oakridger article online yesterday: Incident involving Oak Ridge officers going to Knox DA - Oak Ridge, TN - The Oak Ridger If you read the comments section, there is someone who claims that he has inside knowledge, but won't say what, but that everything is not as it appears in print. Time will tell, I guess.
  11. I saw on the news last night that Tebow threw for 316 yards, and had an average of 31.6 yards per completion. They were asking if it is a coincidence that he frequently wears a John 3:16 reference during games.
  12. How to Choose the Perfect Survival Knife: 6 Features to Look For | The Art of Manliness Nice article on what to look for when selecting a survival knife.
  13. http://www.alphaila.com/articles/failure/fast-food-false-advertising-vs-reality/ Interesting site that show pictures of fast food products comparing the advertised picture to the actual product received at the counter. One of the more interesting discoveries the site made is that the advertised burger wouldn't even fit in the box that it is served in, proving that the restaurants never expect the burger to be made like the picture. I've always wanted to tell the person at the counter that I want a burger made that looks just like the one in the picture on the menu. And keep sending them back until I get one that looks right.
  14. I'm definitely thinking about joining you. Are you for certain about the 21st?
  15. I was going to post the same thing. I enjoyed a nice lunch there this weekend with my pistol safely secured to my side. I looked before entering, even though I've been there a hundred times, and there is no sign. I think that Ruby's actually took the stance of saying "we will NOT post" back when the laws were changing regarding carry in a place that serves alcohol.
  16. I have a PS3, but I only have Black Ops at the moment. I plan on picking up MW3 very soon, though. I'm probably one of the worst players you'll ever see. I like to play, but have just gotten used to the fact that I have a 10/1 Death/kill ratio. I keep thinking I'll get better, but it never happens. I have a hard time getting an accurate aim. I'll come back and add you once I get it. You can increase your rank at my expense. Might as well be a TGO brother getting the credit.
  17. Great. We had a neighborhood tire slasher here a year or so ago where a dozen or so cars got hit. We escaped untouched, but a friend did not. It was in the Kentucky Ave. area. Which part of Oak Ridge did it happen for you?
  18. Christmas Story - I looked exactly like that kid when I was young. Scrooged Christmas Vacation
  19. I'm glad he didn't get in trouble, and I would hope that would be the case with any of us too. The real test will be when another stand up, never had a run in with the law, regular guy who forgot he had a gun on does the same thing. They should get the same dose of discretion.
  20. If this had been two groups of "citizens", in other words no officers, the paper would be reporting everyone's names. Now, I believe that off duty officers should have some expectation of privacy. However, once they identified themselves as officers, that to be says they were using their positions for intimidation, and now they are acting in the capacity of a public servant. And I believe that all public servant activities should be out in the open for all to see. I'm pretty annoyed that the paper brought up all the old stuff from Estep's past and gave the cops a free pass. As far as we know, since the cops aren't commenting, the only account we have to go on is Estep's. If his account is 100% true (IF), then this old info should not matter one little bit. Lastly, and this is pure conjecture on my part, put this whole incident just sounds like there is alcohol involved. I can't see how good cops would let this kind of thing happen, and escalate the way it did without a night of drinking being involved. I seriously doubt that the KPD did alcohol checks on the two ORPD officers, but that would have been good info. And, it would have seriously changed the path of this case.
  21. If you think it's surprising she has her own computer, you should see her iPhone and Credit Cards When we had kids at home we started off by putting the computer right out in the open in the family room, where there was no privacy. That alone kept them from going places they shouldn't. Plus I had a password on the PC, so my wife or I always had to unlock the computer for them. If we were away, the kids could not unlock the computer by themselves. I don't think the OP will need to worry about where his daughter will go on the Net at her age, but it's still a good idea.
  22. This is one of those exceptions that should be considered in the law. But, I would think that the nursing home could verify to the election folks that the residents are who they say they are. The real goal with the ID is to verify that those voting are who they say they are, and that they don't vote twice. I don't think anyone would scoff at the nursing home head certifying their identity.
  23. The first thing you want to do is create her own logon account in Windows. It should be created as a Standard user, not a Power User and definitely not an Administrator. In windows 7 and XP, only an administrator can install programs, and a virus is just another program. In Windows 7, if you do try to install a program, it will ask for the Administrator password. You can enter it if it is a legit program that YOU are installing. For XP, you'll probably have to log in with the Admin account and install any legit program. If you use Internet Explorer, logon to the PC with the Administrator account and open IE. Look for the Settings option, and go to the "Content" tab. There is lots of stuff built right in to IE that you can use to protect her and the PC. I would lock it down as tight as you could. You can always relax it later if things don't work. Your ISP may offer some kind of protection program for free. Many times it is going to be Norton or McAfee. As others have mentioned, these things are bloatware and will slow down your PC more than you may like, but if the ISP offers it, it will be free for you, and will probably do what you want it to do. You'll have to decide if you want it or not. IF it is a spare PC that only she is using, I'd probably think about it. Make sure to remove any Antivirus programs you may currently have on your PC. You don't want multiple Antivirus programs working against each other.
  24. Before I had a bench dedicated to reloading, I had my press mounted on a 2x6. Then I just used two C-Clamps to mount it to my workshop bench. You could clamp it to whatever you may have that would work for you. When done, you could unclamp and put everything in one of those plastic storage bins and put it away somewhere.
  25. I have a KelTek P3-AT. I love to carry it, but hate to shoot it. It bites my hand every time I fire it. When I go to the range, I take it and shoot it only once or twice just to make sure it is still in good working order. Now, that said, I really like to carry it. I have a pocket holster for it and carry in my back pocket. It is ultra concealable. I did pick up a Ruger LC9 this summer. I much prefer shooting that one. It's just a little bigger than the P3AT, but is a dream to shoot.
