Craigslist.. it makes my head hurt!!
analog_kidd replied to Dolomite`s Breezy's topic in General Chat
A free Google Voice number is the best thing to use with Craig's list. You get an actual phone number from Google, then configure the account to forward any calls to your real phone. Give out the Google number on Craigslist, and nobody ever knows your real number. You can then block any spammers if they start calling. You can create groups of contacts, like friends, family, business, etc. then configure each of those groups to either ring your phone, go to directly to voice mail, be blocked completely, or make the caller state their name and Google will call you with the recording and let you decide to answer it, etc. You can set the account to go to voice mail for everyone after the item sells and your phone will never ring if people keep calling.. You can use the account to make free long distance calls too. -
If the holes are small, say an inch or so in diameter, you can get this repair kit that looks like a piece of screen. The stuff is sticky, and you just stick a piece over the hole and work some mud into it. Works pretty easy. If the holes are bigger, but not huge, you can cut a piece of 1x2 or similar scrap of wood. Cut it about 4" longer than the hole is wide. Put the wood inside the hole and use drywall screws to secure it on either side of the hole. Now you have something to screw a patch of drywall into. Sometimes, I will put a screw in the middle of the wood to use to hold on to as I'm positioning it behind the old drywall, then remove it once it is screwed in place. For larger holes, gut the existing drywall back to the center of two studs and attach the patch to the studs directly.

I love whitewater kayaking. I've been doing it since I was a kid. In fact it's one of the reasons I moved from FL to TN, so I could do it more often. This is me at Bald River Falls over by the Tellico River,

This will be all over the mainstream media news cycle this week. Oddly, Fox News will not cover it at all.

I would think without a set of lungs providing oxygen, the brain would die pretty quick. Maybe the tanks and the electrical equipment provide the oxygen somehow. Still, Michonne's pets' heads were there too and I'm sure they didn't get into the tank right away.

I thought the episode was a little on the boring side, but I think it was necessary to set up future episodes. It seems like the story is moving away from centering on Zombies and more toward coping in a new world. Everyone is kind of casual around the Walkers now. The real drama is going to be between the living. I did find it interesting the different words the Woodbury group use for the Walkers. They call them Biters, and say they "Turned" once a person dies and comes back. I also heard Andrea mention a "herd" and saw a brief contemplation of the word from Merle. The Gov is definintely a strange one. Not sure why he NEVER says his name. I found that odd. I also liked the discussion about Michionne's pets. The scientist guy said that take away their ability to eat by removing their arms and jaws, and they lose interest in feeding. I never bought that they didn't still try to attack people. I guess this explains it. It was also interesting to learn that keeping the pets disguised the smell of the living and Walkers would go right past. Another thing I'm a little confused about is the heads in the tank with the eyes still moving around. I thought once you cut the head off the Walker was done. Maybe it has to to be a destroyed brain to officially do them in. If so, there are going to be a lot of zombie heads all over the place. I noticed the big generator thing in the room with the tanks of heads. Maybe he's got some kind of thing keeping them artificially alive.

Well I was going to post about the Minister's Treehouse in Crossville, but while searching for a link (http://www.roadsideamerica.com/tip/13746) it turns out the Fire Marshall has shut them down. We went there this summer and it was pretty neat. It is a HUGE tree house, forget how many stories and rooms it has, but it is measured in tens of thousands of square feet. The owner built a treehouse one day and has just kept adding on ever since. If it ever opens back up, it is well worth the visit. It is (was) free, but they have a donations box outside.

Wow! They are actually planning on wearing them again?
-
Did anyone see those awful uniforms the Pittsburgh Steelers were wearing yesterday? Holy cow, they looked like bees that escaped prom prison. Not sure who thought that was going to be a good look. They need a new fashion designer. Or just go back to what works.

We did that a few times as well. In fact I had a sales guy give me his direct number once and he said when this deal expires in a year call me back and I'll do it again. I did that for a couple of years, but I guess he moved on, as he is no longer at that number. About a year ago, I tried again, and Comcast would not budge. I threatened that I was going to move to DirecTV, and they basically said "good luck". I even tried calling back to speak to someone else and then asked to speak to a manager, but they held their ground. I told them I wanted to schedule a disconnect, and they said, we'll be happy to. We moved to DirecTV and they have been OK. Using AT&T for Internet has been frustrating. They can't seem to get the bill right, couldn't get the install scheduled correctly, and the speed is never up to snuff. But, my cable/internet bill is less than half of what I was paying Comcast.

Yep, my wife and I did the early voting route this year. One of my pet peeves is people who go vote uninformed. If you just vote for someone because you recognize the name or because they have a certain letter next to their name, you should exclude yourself from voting, Every election I print out a sample ballot and research every single candidate. My wife usually takes my word for who is the best selection (we are of the same mindset anyway). This year she did her own research, and was amazed how difficult it was to make an informed decision. She thanked me for doing it every year.

I was watching the Talking Dead from my DVR last night, and they interviewed the actor that plays Rick. I couldn't believe my ears that in real life he talks with a British accent. Blew my mind. I do find this season to be interesting. I like the change in attitude they have about the Walkers. In the first two seasons, they would see Walkers and run away, now they go toward them, and have figured out how to make their way through a horde. The casualness of how they kill them is interesting to me as well The Mission character is going to be cool one. I love how she has taken two of the Walkers as pets. She cut off their arms and removed their jaws, so they are no longer a threat, and then she loads them up as pack mules to carry her stuff. Genius! The one thing I don't buy about the pets is that they seem to be trained. They don't even try to attack her. I would think that even without the arms and jaws, their instinct to try to kill would take over.

I use mine every time. The lady checking me in and I usually have a nice conversation about what each of us carry. She has a permit too.

How old do have to be before you stop doing...
analog_kidd replied to jtmaze's topic in General Chat
There is no age, but you however have matured to the point where you recognize when to go get medical assistance. I'd probably have wrapped it up with a kleenex and a strip of duct tape, maybe hosed it off outside first. -
I was going to suggest this as well. Of course, a $10 multitester could also tell you if there is juice flowing to the outlet. In fact I would recommend that you get one anyway. If you are going to replace the outlet, you need to be sure that the circuit is actually off. With a multitester just touch one lead to a black wire, and touch the other lead to either the white or bare wire. make sure to try both sides of the receptacle if there are two sets of wires connected. If you get a reading in the neighborhood of 120 volts, the circuit is hot and the receptacle should be replaced. Another unlikely cause, but easy enough to try, is the circuit could be on an arc-fault breaker. It is similar to a GFCI, but the protection is at the breaker, not the plug. If you have arc-fault breakers, they will look a little different from the rest of the breakers. They will have a little reset button on the breaker. Today's code says you have to have arc-fault breakers on all bedroom circuits

Westboro Baptist Church in Knoxville 10-18-12
analog_kidd replied to wewoapsiak's topic in General Chat
I've often wondered why nobody ever forms a protest around their church while they are either out protesting themselves or on any given Sunday. I dunno, maybe they don't even have a church building. Are they just a "church" in name only so that they get special protesting privileges? They are going to protest at the wrong funeral one time, and some parent of a soldier, or a fallen soldier's buddy is going to snap and take matters into their own hands and the Westboro kooks will return home one day to find their houses burned down. Or worse. -
Lance Armstrong Banned for Life and Stripped of Titles
analog_kidd replied to analog_kidd's topic in General Chat
Dang, I didn't realize Lance's girlfriend was on TGO! Sorry I didn't mean to offend you, but TGO is a place where people come together to talk about stuff. This was a big deal at the time, and folks everywhere were talking about it. I didn't say anything one way or another whether I thought he is right or wrong, I just supplied a link to the story, If, you're gonna get yer panties in a wad every time someone mentions one of your superheroes, maybe you should stay off the Internet. -
I never really cared for Springsteen. He had a few hits that I would sing along too, but I doubt that i would have ever paid for a concert ticket. Performers do need to be aware that they reap what they sow in the political garden. I thought Sean Penn was a pretty good actor, and enjoyed several of his movies. Once he started getting all political activisty, and given that his views were polar opposite what I believe, I swore I would never watch another of his films ever again. I don't care if it is so good it wins an Emmy two years running and makes grown men weep in public, I won't watch it. Not even on Red Box, or free TV. I wouldn't even give him the satisfaction of downloading it from the Internet. I guess the Boss may also experience my wrath, I'll tell him the next time he calls.

I think it does. There are undecided voters out there who just want to be on the "winners team". Whoever gets the unofficial "win" is who they will vote for, because if this person or that person won, then surely he knows what he is talking about. These are people who just won't take the little bit of time to see who they mist likely align with. The issues are so polar opposite you have to be on one side or the other. If you don't already know, you are just lazy or shallow. It's kind of like when my son was five and Clinton was running. We asked who he would vote for and he said Clinton because his hair looked nicer. We've got a country full of adult five year olds.

The dust in the sensor is a common problem. I've used that trick to fix mine and a friends gas logs. You might try using one of those long lighters to try and get the pilot started, or a long match.A lot of times, once the pilot is lit, you have to keep holding the pilot button in until it reaches a certain temperature. It is like that in case the pilot goes out, the logs are designed to shut the gas off so it does not fill up your house. Having the gas company come by is an excellent idea. They can also check the line for leaks. Highly recommended.
