  1.   Is that place still posted? We went to a wedding rehearsal dinner there a year ago, and I don't recall seeing a sign. I know it used to be posted a few years ago, but I thought that it changed ownership since then.
  2. At work, the parking situation is horrible. A lot of people park there, and even though the lot is huge, it fills up fast. If you get there late, the only open spots are probably a 1/4 mile from where you have to enter at, so it's a long walk, and even longer if it's raining. For some reason, there is an inordinate amount of handicap spots right outside the entrance. To me it looks like there are about 5 times the amount of HC spots for a lot of this size. I'm always amazed that nearly every one of those spaces are filled up. I just can't imagine there are that many handicapped folks at work.   One day I noticed a friend's car parked in one of the HC spots. His wife had a brain aneurysm years ago, and even though she had a bit of memory loss, and couldn't do her job anymore, she gets around fine. She does qualify for the HC sticker, so good for her. He however, is perfectly healthy, and she does not come to work with him. I questioned him about it that day I saw him park there, and he said he was in a hurry to respond to an emergency and didn't want to have to take the time to park way out. I gave him grief over it, but he just blew it off. After that I started looking, and I would see his car there more often than not.
  3. Sadly, I bet a lot of Professors agree with this idea, and will just go ahead and do it.   How about we just go ahead and give out degrees too. Especially if you have some life experience. You say you used to deal drugs? Here's your Pharmacy license. You stabbed somebody once? Here's your surgeons license. Strong arm robbery? We'll make you an IRS Manager. Con artist? Hello Senator.
  4. In today's society of "Zero Tolerance", this kid would have to be expelled and probably sent to jail. Then the irony of it is that the "stolen" gun would just be returned to the parent. The school or police would have no right to do anything else with it.
  5. He could play Beatles songs better than the Beatles. Rest in Peace Joe.
  6. A lot of the blame for this rests upon Al Sharpton for inciting this kind of animosity, then secondly the blame falls to NY Mayor Debassio and President Obama for standing beside them and not backing up their own officers. Not backing up the officers over the last few months is a traitorous act, and this killing is the result of that act.   Obama is the Chief Law Enforcement Office of the land, the top cop. For him to side with the criminals, for no better reason than the color of their skin, is unconscionable. He was supposed to be the great unifier, What he really is, is a divider. He has divided white from black, and cops from citizens.   I fear that this is the beginning of something very bad. The NY cops stood by recently, with their hands tied, and let the so-called peaceful protesters march past shouting that they wanted dead cops. I think that this will start a war of sorts between cops and citizens. These kind of protests are going end up with lots of dead people in the future.
  7. I have listened to it several times now. I usually listen to it while on my PC and it just fades into background sound. There is nothing really great, or awful about it. It's not their best, for sure, but not their worst either. There is only one song with lyrics, and one other with a few clips of Stephen Hawking speaking. Other than that it is an instrumental album. A lot of the songs are very short, and seem to flow into the next one without an end or beginning.   If you want to give it a listen, go over to www.grooveshark.com . I think I found it there the other day. It's a legit site similar to Pandora that you can search for albums and listen online.
  8. here in Oak Ridge, I used to go to Ken's Barber Shop. It had that old-timey feel of a real barber shop. They didn't take your name, you just looked at the other men and remembered who is before you. It had been there for ever.   The owner (not Ken) bought the barber shop over in Groves Center (behind the new Kroger), and the lady that I liked to cut my hair from Kens moved there, so I followed her. She said they were trying to build up clients at that location, so I obliged.   Just recently, they closed the Ken's location, and moved the Groves location to the end of the shopping center in a much larger store front, and combined the two shops. This new location is pretty cool. They have a pool table in there, and they bring out corn-hole on nice days. It's decorated with old fashioned tin plate signs advertising guns, ammo, tobacco and motor oil. They use mechanics tool chests for their work stations. They even have a station for a straight razor shave if you like. The haircut was great. Trimmed up the neck and sideburns with a straight razor, finished up with a wipe down from a cool towel soaked in alcohol, and a dusting of talc. All for $12.   If you are looking for a barber shop in Oak Ridge, with that old fashioned feel, I can recommend them. I think their name is simply "The Barber Shop".
  9. The question I always wonder about, is are these people reimbursed for the value of these guns, or are they just taken? I'd say for many people this could amount to tens of thousands of dollars. How can you value a family heirloom. What if it's somebody's crazy dad with a generational hand me down collection? Can the (adult) kid claim the guns and get them?
  10. The other day I saw Cabela's had .22 ammo on sale and, miracle of miracles, there was some in stock. They also had free shipping if you got your order above $50. I was running around frantically trying to figure out what else to buy before they ran out of stock and remembered I needed some Hoppe's gun cleaner.   I wasn't paying close enough attention and accidentally put Hoppe's #9 Bench Rest Copper Remover Gun Bore Cleaner in my cart instead of just the regular cleaner.    Can I use this stuff instead for every day cleaning? Or is it really just designed for copper cleaning? It says it cleans powder residue, but is the original better at doing that?   It costs about 3 times what the basic stuff does, so I hate to waste it.   Thanks,
  11. We bought a house this past February, and there are two apple trees right near the house. We thought, It might be nice to have a little fruit tree orchard all right there in the same spot, so we bought several more fruit trees and planted them near the apples. This fall, the tree produced apples that were very mis-shapen and not very tasty. They would drop faster than I could collect them up, and stunk horribly. By the time I got to them on the weekend, they were a rotten mess.   Next Spring, I plan on digging up the trees I planted and moving them to the back 40.
  12. I wonder if he does couples Battle Dancing? The wife and I have been looking for something to do together.
  13.   I like hearing what other groups refer to them as. The Governor called them "Biters", the hospital called them "Rotters". I forget what Terminus called them.
  14. 500 count Remington .22 LR for $25   http://www.cabelas.com/product/Shooting/Ammunition/Rimfire-Ammunition%7C/pc/104792580/c/104691780/sc/104536080/Remingtonreg-22-LR-Rimfire-Ammunition/734676.uts?avad=48247_b78e5626&WT.mc_id=al35987&rid=12&WT.tsrc=AFF
  15. A short amount of hot water is a sign of a bad lower element. You said you replaced it? Can you put a multimeter across the two terminals on the element and see if there is resistance? If no resistance, you have a bad element. Are you certain the lower element is getting power? Check for power on the terminal too.   Also, have you checked to make sure the thermostat is set correctly?
  16. I have bought two guns at two different times this month. In both cases, it took me longer to fill out the form than it did to do the TICS check. In the past, they have always taken 20-30 minutes. Both of these recent times were under 5 minutes.
  17. For me mixing fruit and most nuts in salads is a turn off, especially if there is mayo in the salad. Mayo and apples have no place being together. Waldorf salad, just typing the name makes me want to gag. I love fruit, nuts and mayo, just not together.   Also, do not ask me if I want mayo, and give me that Miracle Whip crap. That is not mayo.   I absolutely hate raw tomatoes on burgers. I usually tell the server to not even speak the word tomato near my food. I do that as a funny way of making them remember I do not like tomatoes on my burger. If you bring me a burger with a tomato on it, I will pick it off and throw it right on the floor. It really makes me mad. You just can't get the taste off the burger once it's been on it.
  18. Thanks for the tip. I went to Bud's today and picked up one of my own. I had intentions of picking up one in bad condition and using it as a project gun to refinish. However, the one I found is in really good condition. There is hardly any scratches in the stock, and the finish looks very good to me. It has all matching serial numbers, including the bayonet. I think all I really have to do is clean up a little Cosmoline and it'll be all set.   We went down to the antique shop afterward, and on the way back to the truck I noticed two other guys outside the checkout , each holding one they just bought. I think they are going quick, although they still had one unopened crate. They were also selling empty rates for $25. Told my wife one would look good at the foot of the bed as a chest. She was not convinced.    They were all out of 7.62x54 ammo, but they said they would have more on Black Friday, as well as bulk 22LR. No way am I going to be any where near Sevierville on that day.
  19. In another life, I used to be a CAD operator. Did it for years using AutoCad. a few years ago I bought a house to refurb and turn into a rental. I wanted to knock out walls, and update the electrical and plumbing. To get the city permits, I had to have an architectural plan showing my proposed changes.   I don't own AutoCad, so I went looking for an inexpensive option. I found DraftSight, which is a free program for hobbyists. It is very similar to AutoCad, and can even read Autocad files. I was amazed at how similar it was to Autocad in its commands and shortcuts. I was even more surprised at how quickly it all came back to me.   It could be a steep learning curve, but for free you can't beat the price. You might give it a shot and see if you can pick it up. If the plans are fairly simple, you should be able to recreate them yourself. Someone who knows CAD could probably do it in an hour or two.   Here is the web site: http://www.3ds.com/products-services/draftsight/overview/
  20. I'm starting to get apps in and will be doing interviews this week. Let me know if you are interested.
  21. Where I work, we recently had a contractor change. I've had a few employees leave since the first of the year, but the contractor would not let me replace them. I finally got them to agree that they needed to replace a few, so we are now hiring.   These positions need to be filled by highly skilled, seasoned admins. Below are the job titles that I'm hiring for, but I'm hoping that the skill sets of the employees will cross over.   If you are interested in any of them, send me a PM and I can get you info on how to apply.     Citrix Administrator - Need to know the latest version of Xen-App, be able to support I-Gel and HP ThinClients, supporting a terminal server environment for about 1000 users. Also need experience supporting Netscaler Load Balancer.   SAN Administrator - Support of HP EVA and NetApp SANs. Need to be highly experienced with Fibre Channel technology and creating highly available SAN networks. Also need to be able support EMC Data Domain Deduplication appliances.   SQL Administrator - Support of Microsoft SQL 2012 environment. Set up and maintain highly available SQL clusters. Set up maintenance plans. Light database programming.   Microsoft ForeFront Identity Manager - Support Identity Management using FIM. Will need to maintain existing environment, and set up FIM in a new environment.     All positions require the individual to be competent or have experience with Server 2012 / 2008, Active Directory, Group policy, DNS, DHCP, VMware ESX, Clustering, FileShares, basic networking and Customer Support.    These are good jobs at a great place to work. Also, a very thorough background check will be done, and random drug tests are done on all employees.
  22. We just moved here in March, so winter was mostly over by then. I have a detached workshop that has a coal / wood stove in it. There is also about a dump truck load of coal on the property that the previous owners left behind. I've never used one of these things before, but I think I'm about to learn.   Other than that I have one of those torpedo propane heaters that puts out a ton of heat, really quick. Only downside to it is that it burns up the propane pretty fast, and it is so loud you can't hear yourself think.
  23. I've mentioned it here on TGO several times in the past, so sorry for being redundant, but the info is good.  Using a hosts file is an easy way to block all those annoying ads.   Google "no-ads host file" and you'll get several links to sample host files. Replace your hosts file with one of these, and you'll see a drastic reduction in ads. As a bonus, it will also block many malware sites.   The way it works is like this: The internet is made up of IP addresses, that we can't remember, but we can remember names. A DNS server is what converts a name to an IP. A Windows and Linux computer will check the hosts file before checking with the DNS server. If there is an entry in the hosts file, it uses that IP and does not consult the DNS server.   These no-ad host files contain the names of thousands of ad and malware sites, and then redirect them to an invalid IP address. When you go to a web page full of ads, your browser tries to look up the site containing the ad, gets redirected to the invalid address and displays an empty box where the ad should be.   I'm always shocked when I use someone else's computer and go to someplace like Yahoo. It looks completely different than on my PC.   Try it. just rename your current hosts file, and you can always put it back if you don't like the results.
  24. I think Bob was bitten, and he'll hold on a few days before turning. Meanwhile, I think the Termites will eat him limb by limb. Bob will wake up and find an arm missing, then another leg.  (There's that joke about a one-legged pig that kept saving the farmers family, and the farmer said, a pig that special you don't eat all at once).    I think that at some point Bob will wake up and will have turned. The Termites will be unsuspecting and get bit by Bob.   I have a feeling the Preacher is not all that nefarious. I think he just locked out survivors from the church because he panicked. His sin will be that he condemned his flock to death saving his own hide.   It is interesting that Rick wanted to go back and finish off Terminus, but everyone else convinced him to leave it alone. Now that they are being stalked (and eaten) by them, it will turn out that he was right. There will be a moral struggle between Carl, who wants to save everyone, and Rick, who kills everyone. Which is interesting, since a few seasons ago, Rick was concerned that Carl had developed a taste for blood.
  25. In a world where common sense prevails, the duck owner would be the one in trouble with the law or allowing his animals to wander off, bothering other neighbors. We have neighbors down the street that raise a lot of ducks, and let them roam around. Their next door neighbor hates them, because they are disgusting creatures that poop all over everything.
