  1. I think I still prefer the Darker theme. There just isn't enough contrast in the background of the quoted text. To me it's difficult to discern and it blends in with what ever the current poster is saying. I'm colorblind, and it is difficult for me to detect subtle changes. No worries, the Darker theme is just fine. I have noticed that the post numbers within the thread have been missing ever since the last upgrade. It's not a big deal, but it was nice to see them. Sometimes I like to know how many more posts there are to read, or if someone wants to reference a post from earlier, as in "Look at post 123 to see what I said".
  2. With the exception of a few AK's, most of them look like hunting rifles or vintage military rifles, like Mosins or Mausers. Nothing that I would consider a modern fighting rifle. Most of those would have brought in a good price from collectors. Selling all of those guns would probably brought in enough money to feed an entire village for a year or more.
  3. I don't think it would be too difficult to re-up their inventory of weapons. They are, after all living in the South. They just need to made a concerted effort of sweeping some houses. Focus on the ones with trucks and boats in the driveway. The "One Bullet" idea made me think of those one shot guns they used to drop in Germany during WWII. The idea was use it to take down one lone soldier, then take his guns and use them to take down a few more, and hand out their guns. Still, I think at this point, given Ricks mental state, I'd be looking for a way to move on. It's a big country, and Negan only has so far of a reach. If they get caught driving away, just say we are on a scavenging mission to get you some stuff. Why do they feel like they have to stay in this miserable situation?
  4. I've been gather parts to build another AR, and I'm getting close to getting the barrel and stock. My other AR is a carbine, and I'd like this one to be rifle length. I know I need a rifle length gas tube and buffer. My question is about the buffer tube and stock. I really don't care for the A2 standard fixed stock. I actually prefer the adjustable carbine options out there. It also seems like almost everything out there is for a carbine setup. 1. Can a standard milspec buffer tube be used with a rifle buffer, or do I need to look for a buffer in rifle length? 2. Will an adjustable carbine stock fit on a rifle length buffer tube? 3. is there any reason why I should not be considering this direction?
  5. TN now allows you to carry a loaded pistol in the car without a permit. My question is why is your company requiring you to have a permit, if the state doesn't care?
  6. Gunny's in Maryville has a 25yd indoor range. http://www.thegunny.com/
  7. I had some discretionary "gun money" squirreled away anyway, so I didn't break into the family budget. I did want to get JUST a lower receiver, figuring that would be the hardest part to get if the election went toward Hillary. Once I had that, I got nervous and started thinking, I better get that matching Upper and BCG, because those might get scarce too, but that's all I need. Then I noticed a sale on lower parts kits on PSA, and thought that was exactly what I needed for the rifle I had in mind, but I'll stop there for sure. Then my local gun shop had a sale on P-Mags for $10 OTD, and that was just too good to pass up. Now I'm sitting on a rifle that is about 75% complete, and I'm having too much fun to stop. Glad I just wanted to buy only a lower.
  8. I'm surprised that these people have not come up with a good way to poison or infect the Savior's through the food they coerce. I also can't believe the Savior's trust the food they are getting. They must have tasters to sample the food before the rest of the lot eats it. I will say that I was pleasantly surprised that the Kingdom folk feed the pigs infected meat before sending them off to the Saviors. Even if it doesn't make them sick, its a satisfying secret middle finger to the bad guys.
  9. I bought a Spikes Upper and BCG to go with the lower I bought earlier this month. I wanted to have those three parts before the election and prices potentially spike way up. Had a hard time locating these last two. They were plentiful a month ago, but less so now. Go figure. Guess everyone has the same idea as me.
  10. We early voted last Friday. At the time, we were the only two in the poll. It was a much better setup than our normal polling location. There is always a long line out the door... for the second sign-in station. You have to know that there is no line for the first table where you get your form. You have to walk all the way past each person in the line, get your form and then walk all the way back past each person in line, just to get to the end of the line. I bitch about it every time I go.
  11. I got a Canik TP9SF this week from AIM. I've been reading lots of good reviews on this gun, and for $350, I thought I'd give it a try. I'll probably just make it a permanent fixture in the bedroom, and start carrying my other full size pistol more.
  12. I guess she does give a $#17 about America.
  13. I just picked up a Spikes Lower. Trying to beat the November rush
  14. I think the drivers license office has a list of finger print locations they can give you.
  15. A quick bit of Googleing, and I found this page: http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/Other-Satellite-Laptop-Models/Satellite-E55-A5114-How-to-remove-rear-cover/m-p/566434#M22173 . Looks like it may void the warranty, but you CAN replace both the hard drive and RAM. Just need to remove 12 screws from the back and carefully pop off the cover. If you are not up for that, I'd either sell it, or try to get Linux installed on it. Linux would probably run better with that little bit of hardware than Windows will.
  16. I had forgotten about Gary Hoey. Stumbled upon him again recently...
  17. His sign is no more offensive than the free speech that allows the (some) Black Lives Matter movement to chant "Pig in a Blanket, Fry 'em like bacon". That free speech is accepted by Liberals because they don't want to offend the "down trodden". His sign is thought provoking, because it is a play on the (s)BLM movement, and it drives home a gun control issue. He tied the first and second amendment together in one nice soundbite.
  18. Was I the only one, who looked at the picture of the pond of gas that had pooled up, and think what would happen if someone sent a flaming arrow into the middle of it?
  19. On many On-Demand shows Fast forward is disabled, however on the X1 remote, pressing the Pg-Up button will skip ahead 5 minutes, even if FF is disabled. 5 minutes is usually too long to skip past the commercials (except on some like FX who have no commercials the 1st half hour, then make up for it with long ones at the end). But, if you use the reprogramming trick I linked above, you can change the Pg-Up to a 30 second skip. Just hit that button 5 or six times, and you are back in the show.
  20. Here are some instructions on reprogramming the box / remote so that when watching recorded or On-Demand shows, the Page-Up button will skip ahead 30 seconds. My remote is a newer one that is more rectangular looking, but this worked on it too.
  21. I remember when that law was passed, and I've been doing it ever since. It's only been a few times that I had to invoke it, and I feel really weird, and scared (that I didn't see oncoming traffic) when I do. Most times I'll just try and wait it out. Never had the opportunity to plead my case to an officer. I bet yours went back to the cruiser, called it in and someone set him straight. Instead of 'fessing up his ignorance, he "let you go".
  22. One other quick tip: keep your fermenter in a place where you can do your transfer, either to bottles or a secondary fermenter, without having to move it. Part of the process of fermenting is to allow the lees (the gunk and dead yeast) to settle to the bottom of the container. If you move the container, all that gunk gets mixed in again. I have a metal utility rack that I keep my hooch on while fermenting. The shelf I store the fermenting wine and beer is about three feet off the ground, which allows me to do a siphon transfer to a container that is on the floor.
  23. I like Podcasts that you learn something from listening to. My favorite is "Stuff You Should Know". You are not going to learn any life changing skills, but the topics are always interesting, and the hosts have a comical banter. If I'm in the mood for a quick listen, I'll check out BrainStuff. They are usually less than 5 minutes long each, and they give you an overview of how something works.
  24. I started making beer about a year ago. I've been making wine for years, so I had most of the equipment I needed already. I have been getting the Brewers Best kits that make 5 gallons. It's only ingredients, so you have to have all your own equipment. I like the really dark beers, like Stouts and Porters, and the few that I have made turned out pretty well. I've got a Porter finishing up in a secondary fermenter right now, and may bottle it in a week or so. When I buy beer at the store, I always look for brands that have pop-off caps, not twist off. This way I can clean and reuse the bottles. Lately, my favorite is from Highland Brewing Company. They have some nice dark craft beers, reasonably priced, and the labels peel nicely from the bottle (the other thing I now look for in a store bought beer). I bought a case of bottles at the beginning to get me started, but now I have plenty in stock. You can also buy reusable growlers. Walmart carries some. The kit you bought is a single fermenter, so start to finish, you'll probably brew the beer in that one container. I start mine in a large fermenting pail, then transfer it when it is almost done fermenting into another carboy to finish. This allows you to move the beer off of most of the sediment, which gives you a cleaner beer. You'll need to drink your beer from a glass, pour slowly and leave the last little bit of beer in the bottle so as not to drink whatever sediment might be there. It won't hurt you, but it looks funky. Here in Knoxville, we have Ferment Station, a beer and wine making supply store. They have a great selection of bulk grains and malts, if you want to get creative and make your own from scratch. They also have the 5 gallon kits, which are nice because you know what you are getting. Especially as you are just starting out and learning.
  25. If you stream music, pay attention to your used data on your cell plan. I use Google Play Music all the time, but mostly on Wi-Fi. We went on vacation last year, and played music all day long for a week at the beach. By the last day, I was getting alerts that I had used 95% of my data plan. We had to increase our plan just to avoid a huge overage charge. In my truck, I installed a radio with a USB port on it that can read a thumbdrive. I loaded it up with about 200 albums, and got rid of songs I don't care for. Then I put it on random play. It's like my own radio station, with no commercials. Most newish vehicles now come with a USB port. You might see if your vehicle has one, and if it can read a thumbdrive. You can also just copy mp3's to your phone and play from it over the usb / aux port.
