Libertarian Party ... How I Wish....
DavidD replied to Oh Shoot's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
We agree for the most part however there are things I'd not like to know about. I like how SUNTZU put it, "....but once the hounds are released, you let them run till they tree the coon". Do however keep in mind that the media is and always will be manipulated in one form or another. Things are rarely as they report. -
Libertarian Party ... How I Wish....

You do not (have to have served in the Military) however you are basing your argument from one vantage point, I simply choose another more trust worthy in my opinion. One that has earned my trust by serving MY country. I am glad you do not buy into ANY blind faith, I do have hope for you now. -
Libertarian Party ... How I Wish....

I whole heartedly dissagree. I'd trust a soldier on the ground 1,000,000,000 times more than some yappy liberal news person about how things are going over in Iraq. I didn't agrree with Bush about Iraq in the beginning but now I see it was probably the thing to do. Though it has brought some unstability to the region, it may actually bring stability in the long run. Hell, I say lets go on to Iran and reinstate the draft. How old are you? Also, before you go pissin off the Vetrans (for which I'm sad to say I am not), think about those WWII vetrans that died so'd you'd not speak Japanese or German...... -

Ok, I can see why you might () blame Bush for the first 5, but come on, blaming him for a war with Iran. Why not blame Ahmadinejad? He's the nut that wants YOU dead, or converted to Islam. And for Gas prices? Wasn't Nancy Pelosi the one that said if the Dem's get control of the House they'd lower gas prices when gas was below $2.50 a gallon? And as you said, the list goes on. Don't get me wrong, I think George W sucks as a president but he has done some good. I'll give you two names, John Roberts and Samuel Anthony Alito. Both were appointed by ole GWB and both SCOTUS posts would have been filled by a Liberal if I, and many others, would have voted for Gore and or Kerry or a Libertarian. So now imagine the Heller decision 3/6. Remember that ***hole named Naifeh? I'd bet he'd take it and run. First, HG permits, then semi autos, but who really knows what "could or could not" happen. This (next SCOTUS appointee) is the main reason I'll vote Republican. I’m am not happy with the Republican Party any more than you are but I’m not going to cut off my nose to spite my face. I also agree with the majority of the Lebertarian view. If I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt Obama was going to win, I'd vote Libertarian and send that message but that is the only way. I am actually becoming more Optamistic that McCain has a chance every day. I believe you are right however thank God (and our founding fathers) for the Supreme Court of The United States! I agree 100% and in order to maintain our freedom, we must continue. History has proven time and time again that isolationalist theories always fail. Is it pretty? No, but is just a fact of life. I have always said, If my home gets's invaded, I'd surely pray for those lost but now dead souls. Also, I think Exodus 22:2 covers this and justifies it from a biblical stand point however, the most important thing I try to remember is that one day, I'd have to look God in the eye and justify it so I'd better be right.

Yes, I can believe it. Ignorance is very common. I had a security guard tell me last year that I couldn't carry in the Liquor Store. I informed him the law was amended to clarify/change it back in 2001 and that he should know the law before he quotes it. Needless to say, I made my purchase and left quickly as I surely pissed him off. I alos had a police officer say during Mom's Carry Permit traing course that it was illegal to carry in a convenience or grocery store that sold beer. To his defense, the paperwork and video they use are way out of date.

Ohh, that's the sheep those farm boys from Lebanon were talking about when I was young. Now I get it......

Gallatin Police Department Sitting on $1500 1911
DavidD replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
BINGO! CHING CHING CHING, we have a winner! Now by no means do I confess to know the specifics of this particular incident, but with the history of this lad, I'd bet that he at least exasperated this situation at one point or another until it became the predicament it is today. Just my . -
ATF Changes Definition of “Manufacturer
DavidD replied to Marswolf's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
It may be a strech, but: Let's say, for the sake of argument, I find a used S&W model 60 that the Rabi is selling. I buy it, clean it up, (altering the gun by removing the finish) and replace the grips, then resell it for a profit. I would technicly need a manufacturer's license! -
Yes, it would bother me as well. Years ago I had several dreams (nightmares ) where I pulled my pistol on an intruder and fired but nothing happened. Both times I was so terrified I woke up. If I were you, I'd run a bunch (500 or so) more rounds through it without any problems before I'd trust it. I try to fire the first several rounds in my carry gun (USP 40 Compact) every couple of trips to the range just for confidence.
-
Thanks all. I kind of figured there weren't any places that had a real good selection of parts. For Grips, I think I like these VZ Aliens: Anyone have any experience with them? I'm also looking to possibly getting a Mag Well for my S&W 1911 (108285).

Do you carry with a round in the chamber?
DavidD replied to bubbiesdad's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Poor guy has probably been discriminated against his whole life and is probably just looking for the opportunity to advance himself up the social ladder. Maybe the time it took me to go to my safe, open it, take the trigger lock off, load the weapon and prepare to defend myself, he'd have a change of heart and we could both sit down, share in a big hug and discuss the atrocities the middle and upper class have committed against him.... Err, Sorry, I was just reading an article about DC and got confused:confused: -
Do you carry with a round in the chamber?
DavidD replied to bubbiesdad's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I have to carry one in the chamber since I'm not as good as those guys on TV who always seem to have the time to draw and rack the slide before they fire...... -
Eybedam answered correct, they add 3% on for credit card sales. In all actuality, it is probably worth the hassle and security of knowing that you can always dispute it IF something went really bad, I've just never done it. Here is a break down of a purchase I made at Hero Gear, for which I'll use since Joe is active on this thread: I decided on the S&W 1911 through research and handling different 1911's. This was going to be my first 1911 so economics was a real factor. Bud's price at the time was $768. I would have had to pay around 5$ for insurance and $35 to my FFL bringing Bud's total to $813. I called ahead and spoke with Dan who said they had the pistol I was looking at in stock but the sales price was higher (I do not recall ho much higher now) but I decided I'd make the drive anyway. Being a savvy shopper, I printed out the page from Bud's online catalog and brought it with me. When I got there, Dan showed me the pistol I wanted, as well as several others of less and better quality which really reaffirmed my decision that the S&W was adequate for my first venture into the 1911 realm. He then showed how to dis-assemble (I had forgotten what a bear they were to break down) and re-assemble, explaining what precautions to take when re-assembling as not to mar the finish. I showed him my print out from Buds and simply said, "I drove from Nashville, What can you do?" He sold me the gun for $748, plus $10 for TICS and the Taxes were $69.17 (Sale no. 4502) bringing Hero Gear's total to $827.19, for a difference of $14.19 greater than Buds. Whoopee. Now keep in mind the hour drive one way should not be used against him in this case because I truly was looking for an excuse to make it out there and see the shop and I probably could have received the same deal at Guns & Leather which is closer to me. It really turned out to be a nice drive. Also, for the Buds price mentioned, you'd also have to figure in trips to the bank, post office, and the anticipation waiting the 5 or six days it would have taken for it to arrive. Not to mention the headaches if it would have been defective or had a scratch. There has also been mention on this thread along the lines of "Why wouldn't a shop quote me their absolute lowest price in the beginning?". Let me first say that I am not in the retail industry however I must quote prices in my business in order to make a living. I never, repeat NEVER quote my absolute lowest price right off the bat unless I really need the work. Why would a gun shop quote their lowest price over the phone right off the bat? My next question would have been " I live in XX and I'm seriously in the market for a Bersa .380 and I've seen where Bud's has it for $X, I'll being paying in cash, what is your absolute lowest price? If they can't get close, then by all means, order it from Bud's, I would. But just be sure to compare Apples to Apples, factor in what it is worth to you to see the actual pistol you will be buying. I'll be honest, in your example for $99, I'd order it from Bud's but I'd give Gallatin Gun Shop another shot first.

Anyone know of a shop that has a good selection of 1911 parts and supplies in or around Nashville? I'd like to check out some gips, Guide rods, mag wells etc. I know I can order on line but would really like to see some in person, especially the grips.
-
Wow, I hadn't heard of those before but they look like exactly what I've been looking for. Thanks DS!

That's a great deal, jump on it. And if you don't, let me know.

Right on! I have bought at least 6 guns from Bud's in the past. Lately however, I've been getting them locally. Not that Bud's didn't give me exactly what they were supposed to, it's just the locals have been beating their price (before tax & TICS). Yes, I still must pay tax and TICS and that usually puts me over Bud's price but when ordering on line I must include the $30 for 1 gun, $50 for 2 guns I've been paying to Academy of Personal Protection to receive the guns (they are close to my office) and the insurance Bud's will charge you since I definately want it insured. So if I end up paying $30 more for a gun to get it from Guns & Leather, so what. I get to see the actual gun I'm purchasing ahead of time, bring it home with me right then, enjoy talking with the employees, use their wonderful range, don't have to go to the bank and get a cashiers check and mail it off, got to my FFL a few days later to pick it up etc. The last 4 guns I've bought have been from Hero Gear, the Rabbi (who? ) and Guns & Leather. I paid slightly more than I would have through Bud's each time (including tax and TICS) but used Bud's price as a guide/bargaining tool in each case. My business partner bought a Berretta Silver Onyx last fall for $300 cheaper than Buds price so you should always shop around.

Congrats on the new pistol. I also have a G34 that I use for a range gun. I do not have any plans for competing as of yet but do want to change out the sights for something better. I want adjustable sights for sure but can't decide which way to go. What are your thoughts?

Aint that the truth!
