I appreciate the comments. I figured it was BS. I'm going to have my agent do some digging on this. -
Trousdale County, TN– shooting ordinance:
Tempest455 posted a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Trousdale County, TN– shooting ordinance: I want to share a conversation I had with a clerk of courts employee and get some opinions. First here is some background: I am in the market to buy some recreational land for the family. Something I can shoot on (paramount) ride ATV’s etc. Prior to making an offer, I thought it would be a good idea to call the county sheriff and get their opinion on what I had in mind. I called the sheriff office and they referred me to the clerk of courts. Additionally, I phrased my questions in a very polite and professional manner. The lady at the sheriff’s office was pleasant as can be. The clerk of courts was a cold fish. Here is the conversation in a Q&A format: (Me): I am looking to purchase some recreational land out in the county for my kids and I to shoot on and ride ATV’ and such. I would like to know what ordinances there are regarding discharging firearms, proximity to property lines, distance to homes etc. (Clerk): Do you currently own this property? (Me): No, I’m in the shopping stage. (Clerk): We just passed and ordinance regarding this. You will need to appear before the planning committee and cite your objectives. (Me): So you mean I cannot fire a gun outside the city limits on my own property. (Clerk): No, you need to appear before the committee. His tone of voice was condescending and it appeared he was almost attempting to talk me out of buying property there. Does anyone live in this county that can shed some light on the current laws there? I would also be interested in comments about my recourse. Needless to say, I’m on hold at the moment until I get some more concrete info on this request. Thanks -
Just curious. Why? I shoot a bunch of it in my M-9 and S&W 44 Mag.

Buy him a Mosin for when he takes a 10 min break from the AR!

"George wrestle your father"!

I spray with Windex, swab it and then use a patch in the barrel. Then CLP until clean. Last time it took 20+ patches to clean which seems typical of the surplus ammo.
-
I never saw any 44's at G&L only 91/30's.

You must poke the turkey to allow the brine to marinade!
-
Price has gone up on these from the 1st one I purchased. $129 for a decent one sounds about right.
-
I have two Mosins and every time I pull them out at the range, they get more questions than guys with decked out high tech rifles and gizmos. My AR is almost boring to shoot by comparison. They are like the Rat Rod's of rifles. Old wood is cool!
-
It will take A LOT of cleaning when done if using the old surplus ammo. What the point of owning an old rifle w/ history if you are going to replace the stock?
-
I've purchased two Mosins from Outpost and they were both nice Hex models. It's the luck of the draw, like looking for a needle in a haystack. Look for a nice stock and tight bolt.
-
Not sure where to buy in Chatt but you have only one choice of welder IMO. Miller.

Using a pad takes away from the nostalgia! I like the hex ones myself.

Finally got it today. Took roughly 2 months from time of printing.

I'm all for it! Looks awesome. However, the guys over at the Mosin Forums would spank you for re-finishing it. They are all about "preserving the originality". I could care less as long as all the wood and parts are original. Here is mine stripped and redone in Poly.

Tight action screws are paramount to these shooting accurate as well.

I called twice. 3 weeks ago they said, "its going out today and will be 7-14 days". I called last Thursday. She said, "it was processed yesterday and will take 7-14 days". Not going to say what I really think about my first conversation when I was put on hold (but really was not) regarding my tax dollars at work.........................

It's hands down my favorite gun to shoot. Not even a close second is a 44 Mag S&W. I can shoot my AR and it's no big deal. You pull out the Mosin and blast the 1st shot, people come over and ask what the hell it is!

I spoke with a very well respected gunsmith last week about this. He was confident it was not the gun and was most certainly bad rounds. He suggested not shooting that box of ammo and just use something else. He also commented that this is a perfect example of why good eye protection is a must!

Not stuck in the break, the barrel. This was the Winchester Varmint ammo which is soft point. It did not get stuck in the brake, just before it, about 1" down in the barrel from the end. That's the only ammo I shot yesterday. Never had another brand stick in the barrel before. That's just what the gun smith said, low charge.

Anyone ever have the Winchester Varmint .223 jam in a AR-15? I've had a case stuck before using Wolf once (my buddy 6-7 times) but I had a bullet jam 3 times today down near the muzzle break. The gun smith said it was probably the ammo. When I got home I did measure a few and they were all .2235-.225. My Remington rounds were all .222-.223. Not sure if this was an ammo problem or gun???

I guess I have to call. It's been 32 days.........
