Knoxville Members - Trying to Find Local Source for Strike Anywhere Matches
buck1032 replied to a topic in General Chat
Or when it has been raining for days, and it is still raining. Try lighting a fire with a bic when everything including yourself is soaked to the bone. I am talking pruned fingers from being wet for 24+ hours of rain. -
Knoxville Members - Trying to Find Local Source for Strike Anywhere Matches

If you are just using them for matches, may I suggest these, REI Storm Proof Matches at REI.com I used these every week when I was an instructor at NAVY SERE West. They, IMHO, are the best matches (used as matches) available. And they will burn underwater. -
I renewed mine in late Sept. since my HCP expires in Oct. Was told at the DMV that it may take upwards of 6 months to recieve my new HCP. Granted the receipt along with the expired HCP is still legal, but my goodness that makes my wallet look like its rally loaded with cash. Of which I assure you its not. LOL

The last one I attended at the Shrine (about 2 years ago) was just so-so. I wasnt impressed because they didnt have anything I was looking for, ie reloading components, cleaning gear, etc.. But since I havent been in a while, I might just have to stop in.

I was looking at the same two handguns, as well and the SA EMP. My deciding factor was that SA frames are made in Brazil, while the Kimber is stil %100 made in the US (Granted its Yonkers, which isnt too far from some other crap hole 3rd world). I couldnt make my self pay $100 less for a Brazilian frame. As a side note I bought a XD a few years ago and being SA I thought it might be US. Nope, Croatia. With that said, if I want an imported gun, I'll buy imported. Just my 0.02.

Yes he would! LOL With the max speed of that thing not too much further North of a hundred knots, I would have preferred aluminum backed taped. It works well on rotor blades. But in a pinch some homemade doping and fabric would have gotten him home too.

I got what I needed, but still couldnt help as I dont have a 1200 to measure off from.

The Kenyan? Kenyan-born Obama all set for US Senate

I would have to side with the opinion that bartering ammo could be a very risky business. If it were truly a SHTF situation even so called friends could possibly turn into non-friendly real fast. Even if that doesnt happen, who would they tell that thier new ammo came from you? As far as gold/silver goes, I wouldnt take it in trade because as some one said, it isnt something that I could us to sustain my families survival.

Well since the more knowledgable folks arent chimming in I'll take a stab at it. All I know is back in the mid 90's when I was using simunition in the military they were MIL/LEO only. I have no idea if that has ever changed. I do know you need seperate/special barrels to shoot it though.

Cant blame a guy for trying. Congrats! I'm sure your gonna love it as much as I love my CDP II.

MissouriBullet, First, I commend you for your service to our service members. I do not have any heart burn at all for businesses to offer them a discount in any way, shape or form. I myself have taken advantage of military discounts when ever I can. These days as a retiree few businesses offer them for retiree's, though. I still try when ever I can. Keep up the fight, MB. The next time I am in the market for some cast bullets, I will come to you first! Buck USN ret.

Beautiful? Really? I think you people have issues!!! That is the ugliest thing i have ever seen and you should be ashamed to be seen in public with it. As a matter of fact you should be ashamed to even have it in your house. PM me with directions to your house and I'd gladly throw my self in front of the bus for you by removing that vile thing from your home. :D:D:D

LimmyJoe, As others have stated learning sharpening is a valuable skill. However until then try to hook up with someone to show you how they do it. If you ever ever around Cleveland, I'd gladly show you how I sharpen mine.

I love the names we use to come up with for the ships, ie Kremlin for the Crommelin, Danger Ranger, Lake Complain etc
-
Fresh air Sailor? As a turd chaser? What did I miss? LOL Airedale wingnut here. What FFG were you on? I did two deployments onboard the USS CROMMELING (FFG-37) out of Hawaii.

The electronic vs manual lock comes down to your likes/dislikes. I went with manual when I bought my Liberty years ago. With the way my luck runs, the battery would be dead when I needed to get into it. LOL I did go with an electronic lock on my Guardian wall safe just for the ease of use. With that said, as others have mentioned, after a few years you will end up having to get another one. My large Liberty is brimming at the gills with the wifes' jewelry that I bought her in Dubia and Bahrain, deeds, titles, birth certs., improtant papers, etc, etc, etc..... With a little room left over for my firearms. LOL

What he said. Well actually I did just get conned out of my really clean post war Garand. My sons name sake wanted it really bad. I gave it to him. A few days later he gave me a pre 64 M70 in .270 and a FN Browning Safari grade in .373 H&H. I think the Browning is his attempt to butter me up to get my M1 Carbine. LOL If he straight up asks for it, I'd give it to him though. So Garand is the only weapon I have ever let go, and I do not regret it. Oops, I meant to add that I still have every handgun that ever got.

You should probably look into getting some snap caps for dry firing. I wouldnt have live ammo any where within reach when dry firing. Just my 0.02 As far as damaging the cartridge, it shouldnt have much effect on it sitting in the chamber. However if you had cycled it a few hundred times you are bound to have some sort of cosmetic scraps and scratches. Your concerns about over seating the bullet are valid, but if you were to cycle your ammo and carefully eject it while cycling (ie not letting the cartridge fly across the room and land on a concret floor) I wouldnt worry about it.

I would be rather concerned about a possible identity theft issue. I know when and where I have bought my guns and if there were telling me I had bought one, when I havent that means someone else bought one in my name. I dont think I would like that... I would check my credit report and possibly talk with your local LEO's about filing a report of some kind.

I just looked through some of my books and some of my loads. The Speer 11th edition list's 230 TMJ, W231 at 5.6 gr on the starting side and up to 6.2 gr on the high side. With that said I have went up to 6.1 in my Kimber with no problems. I didnt chrony any of them, but I liked the feel of 6.0 gr. YMMV Buck

And since we are talking bacon. If any of you are ever in Texas stop by an HEB and pick up some of thier store brand bacon. As a matter of fact I will be cooking some up tomorrow for BLT's for lunch. It also makes for awesome wrapped jalapeno's. Mmmmmmm bacon...

What are you people doing? Smoking crack? Pancakes???? Waffles, man, its all about waffles and thier crunchy goodness. And as mentioned before, always with bacon.

Would it be ok if I were to say, "This thread is worthless without pictures"? I might just have to Google the FEG.
