LOL I also did a tour as a SERE (survival) Inst. and I ate anything that I could out in the field to teach the students. Potato bugs, grasshoopers, rattle snack, rats. I have chewed the eyes out of mammals skulls for the electrolyte. Brains, sure why not. Add a bit of water and mash 'em up and scramble them like eggs. The point is to teach students that they HAVE to leave thier food aversions home in a survival situation. I also used canned cat food as a teaching point. Under the Geneva Conventions it is permissable to steal to effect your survival and escape. Thats not to say you wont be dealt with if cought by the loclals, but by law you are allowed. With that said, if you B/E someones home you dont want to take very much in the hopes they wont notice it missing. Canned foods are best since they store and keep easily. And if pet food is handy take it. I dont care what the label says, it ALL tastes the same. Crappy. LOL

What type of food are you looking to cook? I have been "up scaleing" when I cook Korean (bulgogi and japchea) so we can eat on it for days. It would be fairly simple to increase the amounts to serve 30 folks. And as far as the side, you can buy something very simular to mandu called Pot Stickers as a side. I get mine at Target. Good luck cooking. While i dont really like cooking I am a huge fan of eating. LOL

Yes there are gays in the service and they serve well. I have served with them and they did not walk on egg shells. It all comes down to discretion. Hetero's in today’s service can not come into the shop talking all sort of smack about screwing some girl/woman/female/ho/skank/prostitute, etc. It is a PC world, even in the military. Where I see "issues" is when the openly gays start talking "smack" and scream discrimination when they are told to shut the fork up, nobody wants to hear it. And now what is the services going to do when two homosexual or two lesbians want to get together and play "house". Are they going to get BAQ/COMRATS even though they are not married? It is a whole can of worms from the decision to let them in to full implementation. I do not want to come off as bashing homosexuals or lesbians, but lets face it. We are forked as a nation, when a very small percentage of the population gets to dictate policy and procedure to the majority. I dont care if you want to swing from the ceiling fan with a coke bottle shoved up your bum singing kumbaya, I just dont want it see it or hear about it. Carry On.

In the early 90's I was stationed in Hawaii and I lived in the Waipio part of Waipahu. It was a beautiful Saturday morning and I was enroute to Koko Head (the only public range in Oahu). As I was coming off H-2 South onto H-1 East traffic just stopped. To my horor there was a semi over turned and cases upon cases of Heiniken was scattered all around the highway. As much as I wanted to fill my truck with the scattered cases, I refrained. LOL

When did you retire? I retired in 05 and I spent my 20 years in HS and HSL communities and you would be surprised and disappointed at how much the USN's ASW capabilities have been cut back and eroded. I have no idea one way or the other about that the contrail was. Not enough info to make a decent guess. No matter what it is, we will never know for sure what and who it was.
